DREADWING Repaint

Postby chris-morada » Mon Nov 26, 2007 6:25 pm

I got the idea from the Transformers prequel comic (First issue)
I know the mold is very ugly, but hey, I gotta work with what I got.

What did you use to paint the lens head?

Plenty of time my friend, plenty! I wish I could finish figs as fast as Jin Saotome does :-( but hey, I just started doing this custom hobby approximately two to three month ago, I think my level is still in the beginner area. I'm still working on my skills.

I got a question. I've seen some painters take apart the figures to paint them. Do you?

Oh yes, I sure do! :D That's how it should be done, it may take long, but its worth going through all that hassle.

Alright. I took my voyager megatron apart and painted him, and he looks good, but a lot of things went wrong. everything is loose. but i'll learn how to get better at this.

Just a quick tip. Next time you take a figure apart, make sure you have ziplock bags ready. Place arms, legs, etc... in seperate ziplock bags, also you don't necessarily have to use zip lock bags, you can also use those cheap 99 cent plastic containers. Make sure you lable them too.

Share your custom to us when your done!

I love the paint, looks helluva lot better than blue and purple, but the toy still sucks. You can't help it, but you really improved it just with paint.

If this was the way the original looked, I probably would have picked one up. I also take my figures apart before I repaint them. Those flat tackle boxes with the dividers work well for storing everything. Half of the fun for me is putting it back together.

Great looking custom. Way better than the stock look. Also a tip for the above quote, if you can afford too, have a spare figure that you do not take apart so when you are putting your Transformer back together you can reference the bot that you kept together. I have to do this since I take apart many toys at once. I would never remember how to put them back together.

Yup! totally agree with Chris. Take them apart. The engineering in these toys is amazing. I also find painting a little easier when seperated into pieces. BTW, how do you reply to multiple quotes at once.
