If I understand correctly, this version of Ikard is some sort of symbiotic parasite. When the two combine, Scuba does gain extra power from it, but she must get drained of something as well (can't make out what Ikard feeds off, but there's something about "consuming the physical power of rediscuba, and the willpower of Ikard"), so they only combine properly (backpack or boat) in special circumstances.

Quite so. It looks like quite a bit of effort was put into that (like the flaps in the side of the aircraft carrier)... If I was putting that much work into something I'd try to make it... well... not look like that.
