but considering how nobody really cares for it, is there any reason to keep it?

Considering how it seems to send people broke, is it really necessary?

Didgital natural selection? An interesting thought, but Tammuz is probably right; get rid of it and free up some space.

I once won about 3 million energon with it, one week later I gambled it away with it when my bad luck struck.

Re: Mkall's HMW Journal Discussion
IIRC Battle Beasts was ment to allow people with rediculous amounts of Energon waste it away...
Since we now have the ability to transfer it to other players, and (assuming V2 arrives and is the same as OS's version) we'll need to use that energon to build-up our defenses, there really doesn't seem to be a reason to waste Energon any more.
I'm all for dropping BBG, infact I had completly forgotten it still existed until I started reading this.

Now that sounds interesting!
All we have to do is get Mkall to program in steroids and we're good to go.

I remember someone mentioning that once before. In fact I seem to remember a complete redesign of the arena system and this was just one of the new things to be incorporated and it was pretty much accepted by the majority of people ... except for one person.

Re: Mkall's HMW Journal Discussion
I think betting on the Challenge Arena at least is almost unanimously desired, so, out of curiosity, how would you guys run it?
Would winnings be dynamic depending on how many people voted on who?
Or would you set up the game to lay odds automatically on the basis of level, stats, equipment, and record? An artificial bookie as it were...

Artificial bookie.
Of course that all depended on a global economy with energon generated from people losing bets going to any winners with the factions energon bank taking a %.

That about covers any suggestions I was going to make, but Id also like to see tag/tripplethreat/etc pitfights that could be bet upon too, as it'll be more random than solo fights and harder to rig.

I never copied down the fleshed out Challenge Arena because it was posted in the support staff forum and Glyph had pretty much made a note of it for himself.
Then the forum wipe happened and then the Glyph wipe so it was pretty much lost.
Essentially though, the "Challenge Arena" wouldn't be a physical part of greater war, it would be a computer simulation. That way you could use any of your bots and pit them against whoever you want (including your own bots) without impacting on the greater game because it'd be working off a snapshot of the main db (updated say every hour)
So you could still deploy your bots as normal and someone else could come along and challenge them.
The other big factor was the cost. While your bots wouldn't be affected (if they lost they wouldn't be in the cr chamber for an hour because it's only a simulation) it would still cost you to make the challenge. You win? Only costs you your repair costs + a small % for your faction. You lose, you pay your costs, your opponents costs + a small % for your faction.
Why the expense? So that people don't get addicted to it and lose big time like some (*cough*me*cough*otago*cough*) people have done with Battle Beasts.

An added arena simulation within the game that has no impact on the warmap? Me likey.
With a simulation like that, it could be a good way of trying your skills against canon characters too with the proceeds going to the faction. But thats mainly based on Mkalls comment of possibly adding more 'monster' npc opponents as well as the quints - an idea I'd love to see happen eventually.

Not 100% sure to be honest. Persoanlly, Id limit the maximum and then the winner takes all, but a virtual bookie would allow for other to bet on the result, which would be better.Caelus wrote:I think betting on the Challenge Arena at least is almost unanimously desired, so, out of curiosity, how would you guys run it?

I don't think there is much to update until he gets the game running properly again.

So in response to Mkall's latest journal entry ... apology not necessary.
You tried, you did your best, and as someone who has been here since the beginning when attempts weren't even made, i'm thankful that someone made the effort to step up and try.
So thank you Mkall.

Re: Mkall's HMW Journal Discussion
Even though I haven't been here long, I too thank you for trying. Try not to feel too bad however, unless it was horribly coded to begin with there probably isn't much that can be done to streamline it, there's only so much you can do with a script. If it were an actual program it might be able to be streamlined, but that's what makes scripting much easier than programming. The cold truth is the phpBB upgrade is a resource hog, and while the two were able to coexist before it doesn't appear with the added load from the new phpBB version that it can now.
