np,

you said you don't read the forum and after that said you don't think you ever got called out. 1 and 1 is 2.

Well, you have my msn address (button under my username) and I've got a list of 50 bots here.. it's a shame only 10 of those are online at any given time.

So is there any way to get GD "neutral" again?
I guess not, as with any game that does not balance the players, you'll find the strong and familiar lumping together (i.e. go RDD) and that the few hardcore/oldtimer players left join the stay with the meek to basically protect them.
The meek in this case being the bots.

That with the RDD feeling superior and showing it off (complaints about bots not actively running tournaments) is not an incentive for a player to go do it. We see what GalvatronS/MaxP's tournament turned into a **** fest as soon as it became cross faction because we hardly communicate cross-faction.

And why? simply put, for Bots HMW isn't the most important thing out there. it's a game you play, you win some, you lose some. for other people it seems that their ranking and posture in HMW is the only thing they have to show off in life.

This seems to have always been the inherent problem with our faction. I know that's how I feel about it. It's why I never got into games like WOW. I play HMW during slowdowns at work but I refuse to go home after sitting at a computer all day and sit in front of a screen all night. I enjoy the game but it's not something I feel is worth devoting myself to. I also commend everyone for having an intelligent discussion and not the "you're whining because you suck" argument.

On a positive note, I hope we can use this to build up our players. I would love to see someone with a math background come up with some intel on the weapon and armor ratings like the cons have.

it would be futile to do with only 4 months left in this game and besides, you can always ask tammuz directly. He's most willing to provide an answer

OMG, you realy don't know?

that's one of the things about missing the GD talk, I catch most topics when they're two pages old already, but it's a lot quicker than most bots do.

Evolution Prime started that way-back - I had the beginnings of an algorithm & regular expressions that would parse mission results for weapon, hit percentage, and tactics data. Problem was doing it on my own lent it to falling behind when work/like/baby (yay fatherhood!) took precedence. So I do relate to HMW not being the only thing.

Now if someone would setup a secure location where we could collaborate (e.g. open source svn/cvs repository) then maybe a handful of people could complete what's been started.... but that's a tangent.

neliz wrote:it would be futile to do with only 4 months left in this game and besides, you can always ask tammuz directly. He's most willing to provide an answer

Negative nelizeses :P, it would be very beneficial to at least move forward. Tammuz's willingness to share has also grown in time; Cons horded that information very secretively for a long time as I imagine they will again. The analysis pieces would need swapped out with different versions for the new HMW II interfaces but if the workflow gets finalized doing the little pieces can easily be shared.... but again that's a tangent.

So what about Iacon? If GD is a no-go (primarily because of RDD / Con inanity) what about community interaction on Iacon? Here's a few thoughts.
-- Are there common time windows where people are on so they can coordinate?
-- When tournaments are run, would people be wanting (not willing, wanting) to spend more time to play?
-- Clearly there are some friendships here and clearly there are more lurkers than posters. Any ideas on how to turn that into a coordination?

I think that's already asking too much of the autobots. fun players don't really like a mandatory "battle attack plan "

But if one existed that they knew how they could contribute when they do play...

before the reset, there was a Do's and Don'ts thread where the older players noted they got sick of joining the yippy younglings jumping headfirst into a packed con mission with their L0's.
It didn't get read by the people (kids) that should/
I tried to get the MSN address of every bot that played in my timezone (clicking all the names in the mission results.)

I got about 50 addresses of which about 25 are active. the rest doesn't have any kind of IM, doesn't want to share it or heck, they don't even respons to PM's asking for this and to show them around in Iacon.

My best guess is that it's a demographic issue.

Do to two topics that I have posted been locked and a PM from OS suggesting that I take it down a notch, I have backed out of this war for a little bit. I am willing to come back and support the bots again, but only if we join together. Luckly I have not been targeted YET but our team needs to be stronger, especially for the nubs like myself. Sorry to see Blurrz go

We all are - but we all also hope it's temporary.

What would joining together look like to you though? Clearly regular Iacon posting is not a high probability. What else is an option?

When I say joining together I mean when one of us is getting ripped by a con, a fellow bot should try to support him. Within a lot of topics I see, a vet con ripping on a nub bot just over a simple question. I think we need to individually support a bot when in need. Vets forget that there is a learning curve to this game and it take alot of questions and time to get the hang of things.

We dont need to cut out the GD in HMW and talk only in Iacon, we just need to step it up a little with our words and fight back. Not just sit there like they have thier hand up your ass.

The reason I don't usually join in the GD is that I am at work and I dont have the time to read through all the topics and posts. I feel that this game does not take much of you time and requires very little concentration. That is why I like this game so much.

The reason I heard about this topic was through Max_Prime. He sent me PM on how Blurrz left the game. We should of backed him up so he wouldn't of felt he was alone. So I say keep doing what we are doing but keep you eyes open and join a war when needed. Lets beat them with our numbers.

After working 9 plus hours a day at work on computers I really don't like hopping on them at home during peak season, otherwise I'd have my MSN/AIM/YAHOO/ICQ up and running to chat and what not. It is hard organizing when real life gets in the way.

And I'll be honest, if it comes down to spending time with my wife or playing games, I'm going to be spending the time with my wife. Part of that is because I love her and enjoy spending time with her and the other part of that is she'd kill me. LOL.

I do hop on when I can at work, but they block any and all messaging services where I work EXCEPT for Facebook chat. Once the new year rolls around I'll probably be on a bit more in the afternoons.

Behold my quote-parsing-foo!

I think we can come up with a relatively good system where (a) people can play when they want, (b) post while they are playing, (c) still feel they are participating in the community, and (d) have effective backup.

Should we try and coordinate by time-zones?
ashe5k wrote:And I'll be honest, if it comes down to spending time with my wife or playing games, I'm going to be spending the time with my wife. Part of that is because I love her and enjoy spending time with her ...

It's a good suggestion. I usually just observe who's often in the same missions as me (e.g. neliz, Blurrz, Orion, Nickolai). Could work if most of the Bots actually got together and stuff.

Well in case we're not starting another thread for it,

I'm in EST and I'm usually at work between 4am and 1pm and am on sporadically throughout the day.

Timezone Strategy thread started. ashe5k, that's exactly what's needed.

All, let's see where it goes. A little overhead up front and you should have some solid understanding of who's available to work with and who to expect to participate.
