Violence in this movie

Postby General Magnus » Mon Apr 02, 2007 11:05 am

After seing the trailer where Bonecrusher slams the bus. I stated thinkg this movie is suposed to be more violent that the average transformers cartoon? Cause that bus is on the road and problay with people inside. It´s not hard to think what happen to those people. I know it´s just one scne, but will this be the trend of this movie?

Violence in transformers works quite well. As long as the viewers dont take it too seriously

I would consider Blackout's assault on the base to be more brutal than the bus scene in terms of people potentially killed, but I believe this won't be a disaster type movie where hundreds or thousands will be killed (seen or unseen).

It is also the understanding that the movie takes place in roughly a few hours, so the body count can't be too high.

"Don't do it! The people!"

-Superman, Superman II

One of the worst things in the cartoons of both TFs and G.I. Joe was every character and non character seemed to have a "lucky parachute," i.e. the mortality rate on either show was ZERO. No wonder the Autobots, Decepticons, Joes and Cobras were always able to keep fighting - no one ever died; not until the damn movies at least. And who cares if the humans and civilians are in trouble - they'll be rescued in the end.

Now considering all the ultraviolence in so many more movies out there, the fact that a bus with an unknown amount of passengers gets totalled by a big robot without showing blood and guts is cupcakes in my opinion. The idea of people's mortality makes the viewing experience more real because the stakes have been raised, no one knows who's gonna fall next, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The concept is simple - the viewer should be afraid of the Decepticons, and in contrast, feel a sense of hope that people will be saved from harm when they see the Autobots.

I think the violence in thje move will add a bit of realism. That ws the one thing I never understood about the cartoons. How could the Dsecepticons attack all of those power plants, and never kill one human?

Some human causalties i think has to be a neccestity in this movie from the clips. Just think about when scorponok attacked in the desert. I doubt the guy who that was 3 inches before getting stabbed in the back survived if not there is a problem.

i wish it stayed with the R rating, hopefully the DVD will hace the delted scenes...most likely it will.

but hopefully this movie is as violent as possible with out it being unrealistic, that bus scene is one the best scenes we've seen yet...andall of my friends who have watched the trailers made the decision to see that movie 7/4 the second that scene plays

Bay refused to cut anything out of the movie after it was given the "R", and he sent Mr. Spielberg in to the ratings board, who walked out with a "PG-13" for the movie.

Yup. Nothing was cut from the movie. It's still an R movie but is officially rated as PG-13.

The guy you're talking about is Josh Duhamel, who plays Lennox.
He does indeed survive and doesn't get harmed by Scorponok.

But I'm sure that will all be explained in the film, once it premieres.

Both of you have to be realistic. You're talking about a property where no humans died, and was made specifically for children, with an audience of children.

You can't make the jump from child property to "OMG! HE RIPPED THE DUDE'S HEAD OFF! ****'A!" R-rated, Robocop-ish films.

1.) You don't realize it, but that will ruin TFs. (It will cut the audience in half, and once it's lost all of it's childlike innocence, TF will lose it's charm. For sure.)

2.) You can't just have an ultra violent Optimus Prime. (I'm sorry, it doesn't work, and you know it.)

PG-13 is workable. R is not.

Come on guys, be realistic. Not everyone shares your sadistic enjoyments.

the selfish side of me wouldnt care, the selfish side of me wants to see starscream killing innocent humans just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, i want to see autobot and decepticons mutilated, wires ripped out of there chests and necks, i want to see suffering

BUT

i realize that will never happen and im good with it being non-violent, but my original comment wasnt meant in the way of my selfish side, i just dont want it be unrealistic to the point where no humans die, and i dont want it to be so unrealistic where every human dies either, just a proper balance...but a balance...

I look at it this way. It's a war. Casualties are a part of war. Therefore at least one person is gonna die.

What kind of "violence" we talking about, here? The original shows and comics had lumbering vampire robots sucking the energon from their comrades, burned-to-a-crisp Starscream wandering around as a ghoul, burned-to-a-crispier-crisp Starscream lumbering around as a decomposed zombie, Ratchet and Megatron smashed together, Cybertronian cities being razed to the ground by Seekers, diseased Autobots crawling for help as they crumble to dust, helpless victims being thrown to Sharkticons, "Wanna bet?", and characters blown up/drawn and quartered/beaten to death with their own arms (okay, the latter two got cut, but they get points for even being considered). We gonna see any of that in the film, or do we just get a lot of demolition and pyrotechnics? :)

3 Things I want to see.

1. Someone get squished during a transformation or battle.
2. Prime take a bad hit to prevent severe human collateral damage.
3. Megatron puts Starscream in his place.

spielberg walked out with a pg-13 rating just like that? iam sure he opened a can of whoop @$$ to those guys at the mpaa along side with E.T. putting his finger and gouging their eyes. my film studies teacher told me that theres a documentary about the mpaa. i forgot what it was called. "this film is not yet rated" i think that was it.

Yes and yes. Both are in character for those guys, no matter what continuity you are on about.

Personally, I want to see human casualities. Dont show them dismembered or ripped apart, but there should be mention after the battles about the human casualties, thus making Prime more determined to safeguard the planet. Perhaps someone dies in someones arms, with blood stains, but nothing too graphic. Although Xmen 3 had a rating of 12 and that movie had arms getting cut off (although the guy did keep growing them back), people getting skewered and slashed, people being dissolved into nothingess and quite a bit of death and destruction at the end. So I rekon this movie will the correct amount of violence.

Quick question, an R is the American equivilant of English 18? Or is it something worse?

I'm not singling you out particularly, but this attitude of "oh wow, the more violence the more kewl it will be! Yeah, let's have loads of violence!!" - really bugs me. We're talking about The Transformers. If you want blood and guts, go elsewhere. Even as radical a revision of the mythos as this movie promises to be won't turn it into something it isn't. And should never be.

If you want humans getting ripped apart in Transformers just for the "shock horror" factor, read the ABSOLUTELY AWFUL, without a doubt worst TF story ever written (and I count "Interplanetary Wrestling Championship", "Carwash Of Doom" and all the Big Looker and Ladybird books in there!) - "Hardwired" by Scott Ciencin (or something like that). The worst drivel and pandering to G1 fans who wanted their childhood heroes to be all "hardcore" and "badazzzz" it's ever been my misfortune to read. Imagine the rubbish that was Dreamwave's first mini-series magnified by about 50.

But that should please all you wanting lots of violence.

Please remember what made The Transformers great in the first place. And those cartoons you're pouring scorn on for not being "realistic" and showing lots of death and destruction... they, and the comic, and the toys, and the imaginations of 8 year olds everywhere, are what made the franchise last 23 years.

^i understand what your sayign and where your comming from, but im going to take a shot in the wind and guess your an autobot fan :P

but part of the apeal the transformers had on me while growing up was the violence (and im sure im not alone). I think thats why beast wars was the "best" series imo. They kept it very believable, esspecially during the end of the season where the maximals and predicons were killing each other off. There wasnt too much violence, but just enough to make the view actually believe there was a war. Im sure this movie will satisfy, but like it was said above, this is a war movie..there ARE casualties in war, to exclude them would be "unrealistic" to me.

The movie is going to be much darker and violent then G1. If it wasnt violent, people who arent Transfan wouldnt want to see it.

Yeas, human should die but not in gory fashion, like Barricade eating them or thing like that...probably squished or killed in crossfire.

There should be the same level of violence as in Spider-man and Xmen. Hand to hand fighting, guns (obviously as its a war story) and collateral damage to human buildings/vehicles/persons, but nothing graphic.
