I MUCH more prefer Siege Magnus. The Kingdom have too many things "wrong" to be a "mini-MP", especially the truck mode.
Siege have much more "personality" and is just awesome in it's RID AND G1 hommages.

Still, the Kingdom would be fun to own simply to mix and match parts with the Siege to create my own "perfect" Magnus. Especially to tone down that "battle damage" overkill on the Siege version.

See. the thing about Siege Magnus is he doesnt need the black guns to cover up the front end of the trailer/hauler section! Overall, the Kingdom one does have a smoother, chunkier atheistic but for my collection, Siege is still supreme. The more nimble vibe and crazy details are more appealing to my eye and the vehicle could def pass as an earth mode much like Sideswipe or Spinister ;)^

The bare cab of the Kingdom Magnus is the same one as the Siege. Those guns would have helped on the Kingdom.
Beside, I wonder why they were not included this time around? Kingdom use more plastics overall? One that have both should weight them to compare.

I think what would have sold me on Kingdom Mags is if they had actually retooled ER Prime into the inner bot instead of the Siege figure. He's just too... Slapped together? The inner bot doesn't look great to me, and honestly the armor parts could have done with a bit more work

IIRC, according to one or two of the leakers over on TFW, retooling ER Prime and giving him new trailer parts to become Ultra Magnus was originally the plan for Kingdom Magnus, but that apparently turned out to push it over-budget or something, so they ended up just retooling Siege Magnus.

Absolutely understandable.
If that stupid and bare-bone MARGARINE COUNTAINER that is the ER Optimus Prime trailer was enough to push that voyager into the leader price range, just imagine what the much more complex and "full" Magnus trailer would have done.

Really? I heard it was because Hasbro was losing sales to the Takara because collectors were going for the Takara releases over the Hasbro versions.

Nope. Takara's sales had been declining since Transformers Prime, and during the Prime Wars Trilogy fans in Japan had to order online because lots of stores weren't even putting Transformers on shelves anymore and the subsequent loss of revenue resulted in Hasbro offering to bail out Takara with the big requirement being Brand Unification

Slight clarification (not to Sentinel, just for anyone reading Sentinel's post): due to how collector/toy stores in Japan apparently work, stores not putting Transformers on shelves doesn't meant they weren't selling them at that store, just that it's something you had to ask them to get from the back. Transformers being relegated to that still means they were underperforming sales/popularity-wise, just not quite the total physical-retail-presence apocalypse it might sound like if you didn't have this context.

Ah, yeah thanks for the addition. Been a while since I looked into it and forgot the finer points of how it worked, just remembered that they weren't on shelves :lol:

I may add that ordering the more "fancy" Takara version for non-Japanese collectors was pretty much uncommon. It may not have appeared so on forums where the hardcore are vocals, but in the real world not many people wanted to pay double or triple the price to import a fancier toy instead of just going to their local store.

I think that goes kinda hand-in-hand with how so many frequent/committed collectors think they're the majority of the people buying mass retail lines that are collector-aimed but still mass retail products. Like, we're a big part of it, but there's still a loooot of kids, and a loooooot of nostalgic parents/very casual fans buying these.

Basically, a lot of collectors spend a lot of time in places like this, see how frequently talked about these kinds of topics are, and extrapolate that to assume they make for a much larger buying force than they actually are.

Exactly.
That's why when I see a special edition of some kind aimed specifically at the hardcore, I see it as a privilege, not as the norm.

I'm also guilty of complaining about "shelfwarming" but even the things "I" don't want always get sold sooner or later.

Takara has always had a hard time selling Transformers. They'll have one line do really well, then two or three that falter. Armada did fantastic for example but by the time they got to Cybertron some of the later figures never made it on shelves or were significantly delayed. They have other lines that do way better though.

IF I get Magnus, it will be the Kingdom version. Simply because of the bot mode.
But this will only happen if I find him on a decent sale. He's retailing for $50?
If I saw him for $35 I wouldn't hesitate.

That’s what I did for ER OP. Waited until he was cheap enough that it was like paying for a voyager with just a few dollars more for the trailer. Magnus doesn’t seem to be as popular as some of the other bots in Kingdom so it does seem like he might get to that price point.

First Possible Look At Transformers Kingdom Commander Class Rodimus Prime

Greetings Seibertronians! We have some possible exciting news for those curious to see the Conmander Class for Transformers War for Cybertron: Kingdom.

It should be pointed out that so far, there is nothing else to go on other then this picture and what information has been shared with leakers so far. The following picture it's self comes from twitter user, @hotconvoy, who doesn't offer a source for the picture.

Image

As you can see, this is just the main body of Rodimus Prime, and though the picture isn't detailed, you can see some details on the legs that matches the style we've seen so far inn the WfC Trilogy. It's too early to say if be shares anything other then looks with the SS86 Voyager Class Hot Rod. We also see two accessories, a sword and a gun.

The picture also gives a Japanese ID number for him as KD-12 as well as a release date (in Japan), as August 2021, as well as his price in Yen. A date is also given of 10th of March, which, if this is to be believed, could be when we get our good and detailed look at the figure and everything he comes with.

Till we have a source for this, or get official confirmation, treat this as rumour.

If this is the real deal, what are your thoughts? Don't think this will be three in a row for Commander Class releases?

Give a shout out in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

Hot Rod slash Rodimus Prime is probably my fav Autobot and all I can think is... why not a Decepticon commander class to go with Scorponok. Oh, don't get me wrong, if this is released he is a pre-order on day one kind of order for me because of who it is. But at the same time, if this is sorta just an upscaled SS86 with extra accessories then I'm like

Looks decent, except they seem to have done the damn faux-parts chest thing again sigh.

However, I think it's too soon to tell if this is the real deal or a fake or mockup using bits from SS86 and PotP Roddy. If it is real, then they definitely used PotP Roddy's CAD files to make the Photon Eliminator Rifle.

EDIT: Why not a Decepticon Commander class to go with Scorponok, you ask? Because it's the 35th anniversary of the movie, not the 35th anniversary of Masterforce (I maintain that we need a Commander-class do-over of Overlord - he's the perfect Decepticon candidate for the class). Also, Scorponok was last year's Titan - this year's is the Ark Titan they made up for this line.

They could maybe have squeezed him out at Leader-class, but it would likely have resulted in a less-good robot and a camper shell battle station comparable in quality to ER Optimus' trailer base. And possibly a likewise-undersize vehicle mode. And don't forget that he has to be able to go toe-to-toe with Kingdom Galvatron (who we still haven't seen).
WANT:
* Cyb. Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Leader Sentinel Prime sword, shield
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* Leader Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* Cyb. Wing Saber left chestplate (argh)

That's a nice looking Hot Rod figure.

Hopefully it's just missing the trailer part of Roddy's alt. mode. Otherwise it's another swing and a miss. At the Commander price point it's gotta have the trailer part. Right?
