WTF!? You're nuts! Thats some of the most incredible comic art around! And the best transformers art period!

I hope that was sarcasim, cuz Pat Lee was a hack. And a rip off artist to boot, look what he did to Dreamwave. Yep, he ranks up on my list as well.

Well, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions, but I simply don't agree. Pat Lee didn't do anything to Dreamwave. In hindsight, bad business decision were made, the company spread itself to thin and he was forced into bankruptcy, as ANYONE with a failing business would have done.
Pat Lee and Dreamwave basically brought TF comics back to the Fore again, and then upped the ante by bringing in superior art. I seriously doubt you would be buying anything IDW Transformers today without what has come before.
And for that alone, I give him a certain amount of kudos.

As far as art style, too each his own. I feel Figeroa is light years better than Lee.

As far as DW's collapse, it was Lee's fault. He did shoddy business, didn't pay his writers and artists, and wrote off his sports cars as exemptions. Here's a wikipedia link on him:

Couldnt have said it better myself, I love BM personally, and the toyline had some gems, but the scale. It was SOOOOO out of whack that posing these guys together isnt easy

Nightscream towers over all but Air Attack Primal, Rattrap dwarfs Blackarachnia, Silverbolt is a scout, the Vehicons and Megatron himself never saw anything past a deluxe mold save for Jetstorm. It really sucked that these great character designs had no sense of cohesion. Especially coming off the heels of the much more stable BW lines.

I agree, to each his own on artistic merit, Pat Lee is both loved and hated for bringing the manga look closer to north american comics.

In terms of the business, gotta agree with D-340, I was getting into the comic business around the same time Dreamwave was doing business, apparently the guy spent money like it was nothing. Lining the office walls with flatscreens and the like.

Wow this topic has covered everthing from toys to comic book art styles to tv shows. It is amazing how many things can be viewed as mistakes.

And I agree, 100 percent, about Figeroa's art. My point was, that Lee was responsible for bringing that talent to TF comics, and without Dreamwave and that talent, there wouldn't be ANY TF comics today.

Everything else...okay, I guess he's a wank.

And I do agree with you here. As a matter of fact, I prefer DW to IDW, I felt the stories and general direction DW was taking for Transformers was far better than IDW's. So much so in fact, that I actually stopped reading the IDW TF stuff, save the 07 movie adaptation and prequel. Infiltration can't even come close to th DW G1 stuff, and because of that I didn't even bother with Escalation. Beast Wars was ok, nothing spectacular, and Hearts of Steel was boring.

Oh, and to keep this on topic:

Shame on IDW for not:

Finishing the Unicron Trilogy(the comics were incredible)
Finishing War Within
Doing a RID series
Continuing the stories DW left off. All who were involved with TF for DW basically ended up going to IDW, so why not.

And another:

Disney not allowing a RID boxset to be done for the states(Disney owns Saban) I'm a sucker for RID, and it angers me to no end that the UK could get the boxset, but we couldn't.

Yeah, it's a shame we never saw the ending to Furman's Energon, or even a Cybertron series. It was far superior to the cartoon produced.
They should have finished War Within, they said they were going to try...that didn't go anywhere.
I could probably get into IDW more if it all wasn't so segmented. I prefer starting at issue number one and going straight through a story. I don't feel like stopping midway and picking up a totally different comic or series to continue the same story. And having limited series instead of an ongoing is kind of a cheap way to split up and segment TPBs.
That and Runabout and Runashmuck. It just doesn't seem right that they're featured over say Soundwave.
