I'd love to see it happen because Shockwave's my favorite character, but AFAIK this still cannot happen. I know They secured the rights to use the name 'Shockwave' as opposed to 'Shockblast', but I've never heard anything about them acquiring the rights to the mold in recent times.

What his name is wouldnt matter in this case because the encore line is Japan only and all the names are different anyway. And by the way the Shockwave mold was the only one of all the mold's bought by Hasbro back in 84 that Takara reproduced for their Transformers toy line so this might be a maybe.

I'm aware that the matter of his name is inconsequential to the matter of his being re-released - I was merely mentioning it because it's the only thing I've heard has been done in recent times that involves the character's identity.

Well, what about Jetfire, Omega Supreme and the Deluxe Insecticons? They were picked up by Takara/Hasbro for use as well.

If they did have the rights to the mold, he'd have been reissued by now. Takara did a series back in what, 2000? He wasn't part of it, and he wasn't part of the bookbox TFC reissues. I don't think that they'd do a series of reissues and just sit on a character as popular as Shockwave is.

These figures were picked up by Hasbro not by Takara...and as a matter of fact Takara was none to happy about it.It maybe one of the key reasons that Jetfire had such a different apperance on the show. The likeness for Jetfire and Deluxe Insecticons were alreading being fetured on other Japanese shows. So were some of the other figures bought by Hasbro, like Roadbuster and Whirl....nether was owned by Takara and both were feature on othe Japanese cartoon shows.Jetfire, Omega Supreme,Deluxe Insecticons,Roadbuster and Whirl never got released by Takara as part of their Transformers toy line.Shockwave was the only one. They did have the rights to do Jetfire but soon after getting them the rights were sold again along with the rest of the Macros toyline to Bandi for a whole new run on these figures so Takara desided not to but any money into producing a figure that would most likely be looked at by the fans as a rip off of Macross.Macross was on their market for about 4 years [if I'm right] before Transformers.I think the Jumpstarters were never released in Japan as well.

Okay, so what's the situation now? Could Hasbro theoretically have reissued Shockwave (at the time with a different name) when they were doing their TRU reissues but just chose not to? Could Takara do an Encore Shockwave seeing as how he was released under their name way back when?

Bottom line is: Who the heck owns the mold now? I'd always been under the impression that it was still ToyCo's property when all was said and done.

As far as I know your right about ToyCo owning the mold but I once read some where that at one time or an other [and I could be wrong about this]ToyCo was owened by Tomy and that they now owen some of the rights as well and now that Tomy owens Takara we just might see a Shockwave mold in the encores run.As for when they were doing the TRU and their DW Boxed reissues,no because Takara wasnt owened by Tomy at the time. And even if they were Hasbro has stated that they would not reissue ANY G1 Transformer that had a GUN Mode ,present day looking or future looking, Thats why we saw no Galvatron or Sixshot in the TRU reissue lineup. There was some talk about doing Sixshot and removing from the box and instruction any info on his Gun mode but they would have had to rename him and come up with a new bio as well because he would no longer be a Six changer. But Hasbro had already re-traeded marked the Name Sixshot and didnt think it was cost effective to make so many changes [not to mention the fact that the toys original blue prints would still have to be handed to the safty comishion]so they gave it to the Energon repaint of Shockblast. So we may never see a Shockwave reissue from Hasbro but we might from Takara.

Merged or bought it doesnt matter cause now there one and the same. But I fegured it was owened cause the name is noe Tomy/Takara and with the name Tomy first I just figured they had the head name for a reason.

Sound Wave and rumble, and as original as possible with correct voice, and Blitzwing.
I am a huge Ferrari, fan so what ever that Ferrari TF's name was (the one in the mail away) would be pretty cool.

There are no voices with the encore line and even if there were,Its a Japanese toy so they would have the Japavese voices. So what would be the point. And I dont remember a Ferrari mail away onless your talking about one of the omnibots.I always had a hard time figuring what those cars were sopose to be.

Besides the fact that Soundwave has been released just recently. They'd be better off doing the tape minions packs.

The Ferrari is Overdrive I believe, and yes, he was one of the omnibots.

I figured but like I said the encore line is only a G1 reissue line with no special features or up-grades so they wouldnt add any voice boxes. And if the did add a voice box it would have the Japanese voices for the characters since its a Japanese toy.And Soundwave has already been released in this line.Maybee you were thinking about the Master Peace line???????? :-?

Regarding Wheeljack & the others with missing or damaged molds,
Have Takara made it known whether they consider making new molds from an intact original toy to be too expensive?

Irony of ironies: After that entire back-and-forth about who owns what, and me being in the hopes of him someday being reissued, I just, just won a complete Shockwave off Ebay. Oh, the irony. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to own another (or maybe two!), though. :D

A few I forgot to mention before: Springer and Blurr. There's plenty of figures from the first few years that should take precendence, but I'd love to see these guys again. Same with Cyclonus and Scourge, but I'm not sure what the status of their molds are though.

I heard some one here once say that Takara didnt think it was worth putting in that much work and money into a reissue.

That's just fan speculation. Never say never. :D

Your ingaging in wishfull thinking.Call it "fan speculation" if you wish but if Takara was going to try to make new molds from an intact original toy dont you think they would have done so by now.Takara has been doing G1 reissues for over 10 years now and the closest thing they've done to repairing a damaged mold was making a new head for the Jazz mold. And there was a statement made by Takara that they wouldnt be re-casting any molds for toys like G1 Swoop and the damaged to his mold was about equil to that of Wheeljacks mold.I just wish I could find that statement.
