I guess this is what I was looking for. I could shell out the $83.67 now for him, or I could roll that cash into a MP10. The thing is, is there are never enough :CON:s in any given line, and I like to level the playing field. I also think we are gonna see a lot of re-issues of MP10 which is why I'm not in a huge hurry to scoop him up.

I will give the MP03 mold this, that jet mode is GLORIOUS!

Thanx

Oh! Can MP11 stand up on his own?

whoa... your money is between MP10 and MP sunstorm? dude go for the MP10! the availability of MP10 is debatable, the last time there was a drought his prices skyrocketed. at this moment he's easily and affordably attainable. if you got the money then go for it!

yes MP11 can stand up! now watch this!

Ohhhhh the minute I hit submit, i regretted typing that little bit about Prime.
And I knew you would say this.

Ok,

I'm just gonna curl up here on the floor. In a ball.
And you can all take turns with the, "I Told You So" stick.

@Colbotron

Unless you whave some serious money problems, go for both. 100$ for a MP-11 mold is the right price. Not 200$. A MP-10 with trailer IS worth 200$ and you can have it for less!

So, My take is this: If anyone have a MP-03 mold, KEEP AT LEAST ONE. DONT SELL IT. Despite the flaws, the MP-03 mold have the most perfect jet mode you could ever get and he's solid. I still have MP-03-G and I will NEVER sell him.
You are American and don't have a MP-11 mold? Get the local Sunstorm. With any luck, you may happen uppon a sale, but don't wait for one. If you do, all you'll find are shelves cleaned out by scalpers. I repeat, a MP-11 mold for below 100$ is the perfectly acceptable price for it.

About MP-10, DONT MISS OUT. Still, don't panic to get one. The initial release is gone and the hardcordest fans hall have theirs. Now, you can have the Platinum set YOTH Optimus at your local TrU. Despite his funky colors and clear trailer, he's your spare wheel in case you can't get the re-issue that just about to come out. Sure, it's not the incredible 100$ original price, but it's still way better than 300$. Plus, you get a free golf ball for some random reason.

Back on topic and speaking of Optimus, I nominate G1 Optimus Prime for a BEST design. That toy is so awesome that I can forgive his detachable fists. Plus, this guy have a yearly re-issue in one form or another. Funky colored ones and G1 Ultra Magnus count too as "Optimus" re-releases. So you have NO excuses to not have a G1 Optimus Prime mold.

Hey that didn't hurt so bad.
Thanks for going easy on me KBat.
AND, that's some pretty sound advice.

If I find that YOTH for a decent price, I might just consider it. 'Cause he's so...
GOLD?
The clear trailer though.
He's been gone off the shelves for a while down here.

You don't have to nominate G1 Prime do you?
Isn't he just like a shoo-in?
It's kinda like nominating your grandpa.
Nobodies gonna argue.

So what is the best masterpiece prime to order from MP 10? The Takara ver. Or the Hasbro brighter blue tone version??

Any reviews on the paint apps and differences would be greatly appreciated..
Any recommendations as well.

Well, you know I can't speak first hand, but I'd say it's really up to you. What do you like?
I'm 96% sure the Asia exclusive version is the Hasbro colors.

Thanks Cobotron! I'll definitely check that out. I usually go with Takara but I want to get the best version since cash is tight at the moment. Incidentally what's the deal with the replacement heads you can order?? Is there something wrong with the MP 10 head? Or what version of replacement head is more cartoon accurate, the original or the after market two pack?

Also is the jet pack add on worth it too?

its been pointed out to me in the past, that hasbros light blue MP10 isnt actually cartoon accurate. his blue is actually a lot darker than most (including me) remembered.

the only thing i prefer hasbros for, is the brighter eyes. otherwise as far as accuracy grows, takara is actually the way to go. as far as the head replacement goes, i dont know who decided his head sculpt wasnt good enough. i think it looks great. jet pack though, it just depends. if you really want one and you think it looks good, do a little research on the quality then pull the trigger if you like what youre looking at ;)

For me, de differences between Hasbro MP-10 or Takara MP-10 are insignificant. Go with the one that run the cheapest.

Also, why the replacement head? This does not make any senses.

well yeah. i was just saying if moneys no object, you can be choosey. if you have neither, the recent hasbro reissue is a no brainer. ive got one, and im crossing my fingers for another takara MP10 reissue for completion's sake.

Replacement heads for the MP10 Daca Toys After market releases

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dacatoys-2PCS-H ... 1c40c148ac

tho to me the original version for MP-10 looks more like the cartoon.. these I suppose are supposed to be G1 and maybe another toon style? or are they comic book styles???

after a little research, it seems to be more cartoon accurate as its a bit sharper. the original G1 was a softer looking sculpt, and the MP10 head is slightly on the soft side as well.

Alright buddies.
I took Y'allz advice. I'll get both. I grabbed Sunstorm first.
I called TRU to see if they had a sale on. No dice. So I went about my day. as I was straightening up my drawing table I found a TRU coupon for 20% off any one item. That reminded me to check my R US rewards. Blamo $10 free moneys. So I ran out and scooped him up for $56 and some change.
Image
So...
All the fixes are great! The feet work really nice and he CAN freakin' stand up. I like that the samari kama rear stabilizer kibble is fixed in a nice little package that is his leg. The new null rays are nice, and the chest slidy thing is weird but it does the job. I like his flame job. It's subtle but really cool. I dig the coper head and bits. it's a neat change.

Perhaps this mold is getting tired though. He feels kinda janky and cheepo. I would expect more from an MP. Some of the paint is flaking of the die cast parts. That rear stabilizer will not stay on,and his fingers keep falling off. Also, in bot mode his wings keep falling back. Am I missing something? Are they supposed to peg into his back?
You know what's hilarious? The picture on the box is a MP03 with this paint job.

All in all he is pretty cool. He can stay.
Do I wish I hadn't let Thundercracker slip through my fingers? Yes.
what saves him is, IMO, I don't have any other Sunstorms, and he's just soooo dang yellow.
Oh and the fact that he cost about $30 less than MSRP.

Verdict: If I had to choose between the two seeker molds. I would choose MP03. He can't stand up, but he looks cool flying around on his stand. He's heftier and meaner looking in bot mode, and far superior in jet.

Math:
MP03 Skywarp $20 on clearance + MP11 Sunstorm $56 w/ coups and points = no sweat off my back

You were damn lucky to have found that Skywarp for just 20$! That's just crazy! Also, that Sunstorm for 60$? That's what he's worth. I bet that if you would had paid 200$+ for MP-11 Starscream, you would have cried tears of rage... as I did.

I thought I'll never say it, but the MP-03 mold is the superior one.

i agree with kan, 60 is a damn good price for that sunstorm. he's totally worth if for the novelty.

as for his wings, they do in fact peg in. there are two small easy to miss tabs that flip up to secure them to his back. if you cant find them, search for reviews of any MP11 figure, they should show it.

Alright. After ranting, raving, arguing, and agreeing (also straying) all over this thread, I'd like to officially cast my nomination.

"Best" is a tall order, but this design is certainly MY favorite. And I'll take it from any era.
When you say Transformers, the first image that pops into my head is this guy.
Image
Why Silverstreak? Why not Prowl? I don't know. It's just always been that way since I was 9 years old. Any of the 3 characters are fine really. I personally just like this one the best. When I was 9, the Datsun Z28 was my favorite sports car. Then this great toy came along and it was the car but, it was also a robot?!? My other favorite thing!

I said in another post, that the design esthetic I find most attractive, is what I would call, the Takara style. Transformation or engineering design has and will always be an evolving design process. It should be. We've had 30 years of innovation, and it's what keeps these old characters interesting. But, for Takara the aspect of character design has virtually been a constant. we see it most in their head sculpts. Silverstreaks head has always been my favorite. As a 9 year old I always assumed the autobot logo was HIS head.
Image
Design wise, what makes TFs different and unique from other robot designs? Dare I say it? Kibble. A Transformer should look like a car, or some other vehicle, unfolded and stood up. That's what they are. If that's not what your into, then maybe Gundam is for you. I like my TFs to have car parts hanging off of them. For me Silverstreak is the perfect poster boy for this idea.Image
From his car door wings down to his tail light toes. The way his awesome head pokes up out of the hood of that sexy roadster. The way the the front end creates that iconic and heroic chest. The way the front wheels sit behind his shoulders. And those legs! My favorite Transformers legs ever. He's wearing bell bottoms over his funky platform shoes. DISCO BABY! I mean, technically he's from the disco era, Right? So am I. Oh and just to reinforce that idea, he's got roller skates, if he so chooses to employ them. From G1 to MP his appendages remain almost completely kibble free. Allowing for a wide range of motion.(let's just ignore the fixed leg situation on G1.)
Which brings us to the engineering of Streak. The way his arms fold under the hood is the best way of dealing with arms on a car. Plus you can do the funny, car with arms mode. They so perfectly deliver those shoulder wheels to their precise location. That method hasn't changed from Streak to Streak, and it's been used by so many others. Heck! I think Streak invented the 180 waist swivel. Oh and his legs again. A great example of, "Yer never gonna make that work. Oh? You did it!". And the windshield folds right out of the way, safe and sound on his back. Optimus your great, but I bet Ratchet is sick of replacing those windshields every time you take a blast to the chest.

If you ask me, Masterpiece Silverstreak is the perfect example of what that line is about. Taking the old design ideas from the original toys and, by using 30 years of engineering innovation, making them better, and what we always hoped they could be. (I don't have Prime yet, but I'm sure he exemplifies this as well.) Not that much has changed for Silverstreak though.

And on a rainy day, with nothing else to do, I'll even settle for this one.

Funny you thought that G1 Prowl/Streak's head is the Autobot symbol... Because it's totally true! The Decepticon symbol is based on G1 Soundwave, why they picked those two we'll never know. :) The G2 versions may be based on Pyro and Clench, the "leaders" at the time those symbols were created.

And I fully agree that the overall Streak design is one that can't be beat. :APPLAUSE:
The resident Rewind... well, half of one
