Dude, I'm sick of people CALLING me Eric.
I'm Robert. Not Rob, not Bob. Robert. Erickson is my last name, not the first!
I'm of Swedish Decent, but we've been spelling our last name wrong for about a century. It should be Ericsson, as in Eric's Son. Etymology is a crazy thing.
From Wiki
The name Eric is of Scandinavian origin. It is derived from the name Eirikr, meaning "complete ruler" from the words aiza, "honor", or ei "ever" and rik,"ruler". The most common historical form is Erik. Possible relation to Erech/Uruk/Warka.
It was first introduced into England by Scandinavian invaders before the Norman Invasion. It was an uncommon name in England until the Middle Ages, when it gained popularity, and finally became a common name in the 19th century. This was partly because of the publishing of the novel Eric, or, Little by Little by Frederick William Farrer in 1858.
Some variations and nicknames of the name Eric include: Arik, Rick and Aric. The official name day for Eric is the 18th of May in Sweden.
