So it's not a big secret that the first 3 movies were not well received. I don't want to restart the fire and the whole bayformer bashing thing.
I want to propose a thought, or strike a deal with the fans so to speak.
There is a saying in Tennessee or probably Texas:
"Fool me once, shame on you...ya fool me ya can't get fooled again"
What if Bay never learns from his mistakes and makes TF4 in the exact same way as the rest. Shaky cam, no depth, stupid humans, etc... Why should he make it different? Why is this movie going to be different than all the crap that came before it? Grimlock? Is that why? They had access to character like Devastator, Soundwave, even Jazz, and that did nothing to elevate their status. The dinobots are cool, actually they're awesome, but so was Devastator before bayformers.
If the movie is bad, are you guys who all defend the 3 movies going to say "oh it was good" or will you acknowledge Bay's failure?
I thought DOTM would be the straw that breaks the dinobot's back. Sure it was nice to look at with 3d and all. That wasn't Transformers right? Sure it's the same title. Did it relay the magic of the 80's movie to the new generation? Any of you have kids, I'd be interested to know what you think. Do you think that your kids experienced the same or better/worse experience with bay's stuff?
Look at how IDW treats Transformers, wouldn't you like to see that on the big screen. See billions spent into recreating the Lost light or something?
Am I the only one that feels the huge disappointment? Or is it just a case of learned helplessness from the fans?
Here are the ratings from critics/audience reference"
Transformer 2007: 57%/85%
ROTF: 20%/68%
DOTM: 36%/61%
Animated tf movie: 50%/83%
Let's assume, that you are a person who doesn't agree with an aggregated score like Rottentomatoes and think all the critics know nothing about movie standards. Putting the audience ratings aside for a sec, if Tf4 rated 30% on RT, would you be willing to admit it was bad?
I'm not ignoring the audience ratings by the way, I'm more concerned about the huge deviation between the two, there has to be a reason for it. Are the critics stupid, or is the audience?
You have to see that it's harder to admit it was good after 3 "rotten" movies <60%. The probability that the 4th time sweeps people off their feet is...well..unlikely. It sounds like it would be great to get a poll, and see how it develops through till the movie.
It goes without saying that everyone has their opinion and all, and I'm sure we all like the franchise in one way or another. But when there is this huge amounts of money involved, one can't help but think it may be a waste...just imagine it...the lost light in a movie! Or Last stand of the Wreckers. That's a movie people will resonate with... overlord doing what he does best. That would be a different level of Transformers all together. Or they could make the classic colorful G1 movie we have been waiting for, maybe like what Spielberg did with the Tin tin movie. That's a good rendition of cartoon to 3d right?
As for me, if the TF4 turns out to be amazing, I will express that and admit it's good.
I have a bad habit of not replying on time....you've been warned
