Were here is a cool thing I just learned about, shame it's execution is poor or I just have a really slow computer/internet connection.

It's a Star Wars flavored browser game that links your phone's accelerometers to use as the light saber.

Neat concept and neat until it lagged to the point I couldn't play. Well I guess getting 1:1 control is pretty unrealistic anyway.

Go check it out. At the most it will cost you a couple minutes and a bit of battery life on your phone.

Considering Bravely Default is a love letter to classic Final Fantasy, if you hated grinding, you would have quit it ages ago.

True. I decided to show my Vita some love this week and packed it instead of my 3DS. Immediately regretted it. I spent a lot of time on the ps store trying to find a substitute.

I ended up splitting my time between Dragon Fin Soup, Bastion (which I haven't played until now) and Freedom Wars. DFS is kind of a cool spin on taking turn based games to the extreme. Just the turn based part. The entire world stands still until your character acts. So every time you take an action, the enemies and NPCs move/attack. PS+ member so it was a freebie. I'd recommend checking it out just for its quirky weirdness.

Bastion is old news and I can only imagine the same as every other version.

Freedom Wars is sorta a Monster Hunter clone with a post apocalypse twist. I've never played a MH game and I'm still trying to find my footing in FW. I like games with a seamless world, FW "warps" you to the battle arenas. I'm am liking the story and setting so far though.

Speaking of old school PRGs; one last thing I picked up a week ago or so on sale was FFVI on mobile *gasp*. If you can get past the "ugly" sprites, it's the same game just optimized for mobile play. I'm enjoying it and I like the new graphics just fine. I haven't played FFVI since the SNES days and its a nice stroll through memory lane. A battery hog though :(

Cary!!!

Whaaaaat?!

CB

http://www.pokemon20.com/

I can't believe it's been 20 years. The first time I played Pokémon was on the Pikachu Yellow Special Edition Game Boy Color, which was the first Game Boy system I ever owned (I picked it up when I worked in Electronics at Walmart, good old teenage gamer Cram). Never finished it, but still pretty cool that it's been around for that long and is still successful. I thought it would be more of a fad than it was. I still have that GBC somewhere, I should break it out.

OR

I could pick up the games when they come out on the eShop!

There's also a *new* 3DS Special Edition (not XL) with swap-able cover plates and the original Pokémon games pre-loaded! Which is pretty tempting, as they have awesome LoZ cover plates, and the smaller size is more pocketable..

AND the power button is harder to press by accident. My hands aren't small, so I may not like the smaller one though..

BUT the screen has TECHNICALLY more PPI as it is the same resolution as the larger screen..

AND it's white and has colored Y X B A buttons like on the Super Famicom controller!

Ponder this, I will.

I've never played a Pokemon game. Just one of those things I missed out on. I've played similar style games. Those nendoroids look awesome; I've always like the look of pokemon.

I think I worked in the elec dept of WM when Pokemon hit. I was too busy with the sega Saturn at the time and other "grown" folk games

In other whatcha playin' news. I've just started playing A Boy and his Blob on ps4/vita. It's a re-release of the wii remake of the nes game.

And in even bigger what I'm not playing news; we cancelled our trip to Pax south. Neither of us was felling it and decided to put that money on a new car opportunity that popped up. But, I'm working on a stag trip to botcon. Still need to finalize all the deets.

Yeah..but..you know..Nintendo  and aren't the colors switched around on the Microsoft ones (starting from the G1 Xbox)? And the button layout too, which is why I always press the wrong buttons on the Nintendo controllers

Well a lot of different stuff actually. Lately I feel like I've just been throwing **** at the wall to see if anything sticks. Nothing really has lately :(

I'm primarily a playstaiton guy and I'm a PS+ subscriber so I get a lot of new stuff to "try" out. I say try out because most of it just isn't doing it for me. The last few things I tried out via PS+ was Grim Fandango, Helldivers, Broforce and Galak-Z.

Image

Broforce wore thin after all the dudebro references were made. Helldivers seems to just be another 3rd person isometric shooter. It has a few interesting things, but I'll probably never get back to it.

Image

Galak-Z is the one that makes me the most sad though. I was super hyped for this game and now I'm super glad I didn't really "pay" for it. Gameplay is fantastic, but its a damn roguelike. I've got roguelike fatigue. That genre seems to be the latest "me too" genre lazy devs go to recently. Spelunky was really the only one that has ever really played the right chords for me.

Image

So what am I actually playing?

After a 4 year hiatus and a PS store DLC sale, I decided to give the ill fated 38 Studio's Kingdoms of Amalur a second go. It took 3 days to remember/figure out what the hell was going on and what I was doing. I'm getting back into the groove, but also remembering why I stopped playing the first time.

Image

It's kinda boring and that's a shame. There is a butt load of things to do, the game is huge and well fleshed out, combat is decent and has a somewhat deep combo system of mix and match and surprisingly the game runs surprisingly fine on the PS3. It's like the game has everything that should make it a great game, but it's just mediocre at best. I just can't put a finger on it, but the game is just lacking...

I think that I'm craving something deep, something that will become an obsession, something I can just get lost in. I'm feeling something with a traditional RPG feel, but with a splash of sci-fi flavor. I think what I'm looking for is just around the corner. My much hyped and anticipated game, No Man's Sky. They have finally announced a release date of June 21st.

Image

I've got a couple of options to pull from my backlog. I can keep beating my head against the Walls of Amalur :BANG_HEAD: , I can finally sink my teeth into Mass Effect 3 (which I'm kind of afraid will burn me out on space travel/sci fi) or I can just say "**** it" and keep grinding away at Diablo 3.

I've got a pretty extensive backlog (mostly due to PS+), I play on 3DS, PS Vita, PS3 & PS4 and about four months to kill. So... any recommendations from the two three people who follow this thread?

Chakrams are my secondary weapon of choice with the long sword as my primary. I've played around with the others and settled on a mix of quick hits and powerful blows to finish the job. The game hits all the check boxes and is fun in spurts, it just leaves me wanting a little more.

Well what a sweet bday surprise with no man's sky. Hopefully the game lives up to the hype. If so, the weeks that follow will be when I get disowned from seiberteon.

The 4 Month Slump

Postby no-one » Wed Mar 16, 2016 8:50 am

Well I found something to help fill in the near four months until No Man's Sky is released.

Image

Money talks and money walks. Nintendo added LoZ:OoT to their $20 select games and that was enough for me to give it another try after 18 years. Bongo Bongo killed the game for me. I beat him out of spite, saved the game and never went back to it.

Image

I remember that fight being very frustrating. I'm not sure if it was all that hard or if I just wan't good / patient enough. It probably didn't help that I had a growing library of PSone games that made it easy for me to move on.

Image

With the improvements and the massive amount of time that has passed, OoT is almost like a new game. I'm also remembering how much fun the game was and why everyone holds it in such high regard.

I'm only to Goron City and I've been enjoying the game very much so far. The music is great and very nostalgic, gameplay is tight as ever (much much more comfortable than the torture device that was the N64 batarang) and with the graphic improvements the game looks right at home on the 3DS.

Image

Also, is it just me or are these guys creepy as hell?

I decided to give Galak-Z another chance.

Image

The rouge-like aspects were sucking the fun out of it. The game doesn't feel like a rouge-like. There is a story that proceeds after the missions so it doesn't make much sense to lose all my upgrades and progress after death. There are some "continues" that help and if you shut the game off in-between missions you can pick up where you left off.

Much like a lot of "harder" games, if I sleep on it and come back I'm much improved. The game is actually a lot of fun, you just have to mentally commit to bringing your A game with each session. I pushed through to what they call season 2. Its a weird setup. Each season is five missions. Complete five missions and you can start at that season on your next play session. Here is the weird thing. I was all upgraded, beat all five missions and the mission five boss without dying. The cut-scene roles as do the credits and you get booted to the main menu. Then start season 2 from a predefined point. So weird. There is a saving grace though; after you beat the boss your ship gets an upgrade that isn't advertised in-game (if you've been following the game you know whats coming).

Image

Boom, your ship transforms into a freaking mech! After a quick tutorial where you're stuck in mech mode, you get unleashed on the game with the ability to transform at will. It's a whole different game now. I've got a beam sword, tractor beam (grab debris to use as weapons and sheilds) and an energy shield. I'll definitely be hammering away at this one for a bit.

I noticed that LoZ:OoT is now cheap, that's awesome! I may buy the digital version and sell/trade in my gamepak just to have fewer things to lug around. You should probably pick up Mega Man Legacy Collection since it's only $15 too :-D

I can tell you this much, that game on the *new* 3DS plays even BETTER. I didn't finish it and cleared my save data anticipating selling it, and now I'm back playing with 3D on AND using the gyro which wasn't really possible before!! Same thing with Star Fox 64 3D, it's really really awesome with the Face-Tracking 3D.

Speaking of games that have ships that turn in to mechs (Galak-Z), Star Fox Zero will be out in a month!! I'm looking forward to that
