The extra traffic to site puts extra strain on the server; most Transformers sites grind to a crawl during Botcon so it makes sense to turn the game off to free system resources for the rest of the site.

Hmm, number of pageviews doesn't seem ridiculously high though, but hey, it hardly surprises me anyway.

To the spam bots? Yeah, I was all over them.

Had one earlier but I left it alone. I think it works on a loop, goes back to see if it's crap has been deleted and if it has posts again so I let it run it's course while I went out. I'd already spent half an hour deleting it's threads, wasn't going to waste any more time on it!

The new version of the forums should be launching in the next week or two. It is my hope that the newest version of phpBB will resolve the Spam bot issue. I know it's a pain but bear with me a little longer until I work out some of the style sheet issues with the newest version.

If that doesn't resolve the SPAM bot problem, I'm going to see about using my own solution for the CAPTCHA image that you see during the registration process to see if the one I use will stop the Spam bots once and for all.

As for HMW, I'm not sure when I'll be putting it back online. The site's been hammered with traffic for the past week and HMW kept bringing the server down. Since OS is working on a new version of HMW2 which will hopefully be launching in the near future, there's no sense in figuring out the problem with the old legacy scripts that process the battles at this point.

For those of you wondering, here are the site's stats from the past week. I'm waiting for yesterday's numbers to be posted on Google which should be in a little bit. As you can see from the numbers below, there's been a massive increase in traffic during BotCon weekend. The site generally averages 250,000 to 300,000 pageviews per day.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - 280,689 pageviews
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - 243,663 pageviews
Thursday, May 28, 2009 - 276,950 pageviews
Friday, May 29, 2009 - 299,675 pageviews

Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 502,552 pageviews

You don't have a break down by section at all Ryan?

I'm guessing the news page was heavily hit because despite the increased traffic, the forums still seemed very quiet over the weekend.

Guys please, we don't like this any more than you do.

I've talked to Ryan, HMW was causing more problems in the background than any of us realise. He's waiting to hear back from OS regarding the status of HMW2 before making a final decision.

Trust me, I really do hope we can get it turned on again, even if it's just long enough for some form of send off.

I'm hoping for the best that it's allowed to return for a little. I too would like to get a cap of my team and help give the game a send off. But if that's impossible, oh well, i'm sure i'll live.

I'm also assuming this isn't something a little log wipe wouldn't help fix any is it? Cause i know the mission and arena numbers were getting quite high.

If I recall there was a log wipe quite recently, and that doesn't always help.

Many of you would have noticed there's a few things not working, who knows to what extent the code behind the scenes is like after all the crashes and what not. Hence why HMW2 is being developed, fresh code, and much much more easy to modify and expand.
