Re: tooling and such, it'd be mildly interesting to see what percentage of repaints the SW line has compared to the TF lines. Sure, SW has a lot of unique sculpts that couldn't really be used for other characters, whereas most TFs could theoretically get put out as a new character or as some alternate version of the one they were designed as...however, there's a hell of a lot of droids and clones in SW these days. I've not bought any for years, but have the same Clone Trooper mold in at least 4 different skittles flavours.
I know, but to me, he'll always be Ice-cream Maker Guy first, and foremost.
As for repaints with Clones it's been off the charts. I can think of over 20 different repaints just for the RotS Clone mold alone made in the last 6 years. That's not including the AOTC Clone, or the Clone Wars cartoon figures. In that way, yes, there's no way any Transformer would come close to being repainted as many times as SW Clones. The issue now though is that the molds for all clone sculpts are wearing down, so Hasbro has been making new ones.
But, like I said before, for me, getting the love isn't so much about quantity; it's the assurance that Hasbro is going to give us all our old, sentimental favourites redone all shiny and new with sweet articulation, just as what SW fans are getting. For many of us Old-school dudes, Dinobots and Insecticons are Classics essentials!
