I have a suggestion to help balance the teams.

Tear down the **** Arena!
It'll be a huge reduction in the number crunching required for the dull 1 v 1 battles, and it will stop the bots hiding in it and get them into the missions.

I would love to see the end of the arena if it means people would have to take part in missions. However, forcing people into missions may put a lot of people off playing altogether, so I doubt it'll happen.

Maybe bringing the challenge pit that OS had planned as a replacement would be a better idea, as that way people would have to find an opponent, rather than one being randomly assigned. Either that, or make people pay to fight in the arena, giving them the incentive to fight in missions.

Not even that, just kill it completely and get everyone fighting in the same place instead of having to split everyone up and make the game work twice as hard.

Im willing to bet the number of missions generated wont change much, but the number of empty missions would be massively reduced.

Generally, the arena lurkers aren't posters, so 'drumming up support' on the board, while easy, would be fairly meaningless.

Still, reducing site crashes is plenty of justification to do it, with or without popular support.

The assumption you're making though, is that either Seibertron of Mkall knows how to shut down the arena without taking 3 or 4 things out with it.

The HMW program is notoriously bad about having tons of interconnections, and, unlike Minicons, the arena is one of the oldest parts of the game, meaning it is probably one of the most embedded pieces of programming within the game. I very much so doubt there is an on/off switch for it.

Do any of the veterans remember a time when it was just temporarily deactivated?

history check; Challange arena is Burn's idea, which OS butchered with his watered down version of it.

secondly that requires mkall to do some serious coding to happen, turning the arena off doesn't.

and no i don't recall a time when the arena was offline, i remember when Glyph killed the missions though

Not too up on my HMW history, or who knows how to do what.

I don't know how easy this would be, but what about removing the arena tab from the sidebar - that way it makes it more difficult for people to get to the arena to fight.

While this wouldn't stop everyone, just making it harder to get to may be enough to stump a few people and get them into missions instead.

That should be all the justification it needs.

As I understand it, the memory/space required to generate and store a Mission result/log is the same as the Arena regardless of number of participants. By removing all links to the arena, it should reduce the number of logs and calculations required and recorded, reducing overall server load.
Then, instead of empty missions and a wastful arena full of faceless players, we'd have full missions and Mkall acan take his time cooking up a suitable replacement. It might also be a good step towards saving HMW.

All I can say is I play as often as I can and only use the missions. I worked till noon and just finished a Gurps game with some friends.

The Autobot players are mainly casual players...the Decepticon players have for a while had WAY more of the "I don't do anything else" type of players. :lol:
