Energon is special for me because it was the line that got me back into collecting Transformers. Australia seemed to have it really good with this line -- I remember picking up most figures quite some time before they became commonly available in the US. It almost seemed as if Hasbro distribution was favouring Australia over the rest of the world. Ironically, there were some figures that were never released over here, like Quickstrike and Omega Sentinel and maybe something else I can't recall.

I really love the Superlink anime. Anyone who's only watched the Energon dub should really give the Superlink subs a go -- it's really a whole different experience.

There's certainly some fantastic figures in Energon and I enjoyed collecting it. It has to be said though that Cybertron/GF has since made Energon seem rather ordinary in comparison, but I'm sure Counterpunch will get to that...

There's a lot I'd cotest about what you've said, for instance I cannot stand the powerlinking gimmick as it resulted in a lot of ugly details which detracted from the main robot mode (and a personal annoyance of mine, reduced the posability). However not all the autobot deluxes were horrible, I'll admit that, from the minute I picked up Towline from some stupidly cheap shop, i was in love with that figure (dispite his ugly ass gun thing). Such a shame I will probably never be willing to pay the asking price for the Botcon Ironhide/Ratchet versions of the same mold.

I'd also contest you love of Omega Supreme. I dunno why, but I just do not like him (that's very much a a critismn of the actual toy rather than anything to do with 'raping my childhood' or geneal distaste for the orignal charecter).

I'd also say that I dont like what I've seen of the combiners, but as I have only ever seen them in pictures (and the one part of the constructicons that was swamping the toys r us' allover the UK when I first got into transformers) I cannot and will not say that they are actully bad as I simply cannot know for sure.

And no surprise you didnt mention Prime, lol. It's a god thing I got Megatron at the same time as I got Prime, otherwise I suspect I would have sworn never to go near anything energon again. And boy do I wish I had Galvatron... (damn you hasblo UK).

Anyway, perhaps my real reason for disliking Energon (which by and large, I still do), is actully becuase when I got back into transformers, all that was left on the shelves was the dredges of Energon (Ironhide in his thousands *shudders*), and most of it was absolute rubbish. Energon was the reason I swore to stick to G1 and it's homage lines (alts/bts, rm, remember at the time I didnt know enough about tfs to know energon had any homages, and they sure as hell were no where near any shelves I was looking at), and that only changed when Cybertron came along and completely replaced G1 as my favourite line.

The bit of your artical I would therefore agree with the most therefore has to be this bit:

Regarding Prime...I didn't intentionally leave him out, it wasn't that so much. I think Energon Prime is like one of those weird flavors of ice cream at the far end of the scoop row. He's unique, interestingly colored, but ultimately not for everyone.

The toy itself is very clever. The whole concept kind of works in an odd way. Combining him with Wingsaber is really very nice. That aside, Energon Prime is ugly and badly proportioned overall. Despite his excellent articulation and stability (and he is both those things), his girth and ugly truck mode (and color scheme) are all bad deterrents... The toy is a very unfortunate decision to dip into the Power Rangers audience and it failed in that. I'll say this though, how much cooler would the toy have been were it colored like Ultra Magnus? Blue and white drones, white and red body, already blue helm...someone missed the mark there...

I'm glad to see there are positive responses to these though. (Sorry to Nekoman for stealing some thunder from his thread; this was already written though and well, I wasn't going to waste the effort, ne?)

No prob, I kind of figured Energon would be next, in the meantime though I just sort of whipped up my own thoughts about the line. Energon was so good it deserved two “why I like it” threads anyway, one just doesn’t due for a line of such magnificence. :D

I didn't start collecting TFs again until after Energon was long past, but even then there were still a few bots from the series languishing on dusty back shelves. But I had missed quite a bit.

When I got back into collecting, with Alts and Classics, and subsequently discovered this site, I found quite a lot to like in the Energon line.

My "Classics" shelf is littered with Energon infiltrators (as well as cybertron, but I'll stay on topic).

Energon Shockwave (shockblast or sixshot, whatever) after an arm swap and repaint (both easy enough to do) may be the best Transformer I own. He looks better than G1 shockwave ever could, has heaps of articulation, at least 4 transforms (bot, gun, tank & satellite as well as a possible base mode) all the extra panels from the satellite mode & other details. Simply sweet!!

I was lucky enough to snag an energon Galvatron in a buy from a guy online. I bought like 6 energon bots from him, and was able to get the total $$$ reasonably cheap. E-Galvie proudly stands on my "Classics" shelf, dwarfing Megatron (as well he should!) I had to set up Cybertron Prime there too so the display looks balanced.

Folks have already mentioned Wheeljack and a few other 'bots, and Energon screamer and the sharkticon are 2 more great 'cons, but I didn't see anyone mention E-Scorponok.

He is great on his own merit. Throw in the excellent G1 homage and you've got money. Oh sure, he doesn't have the height, but the articulation and detail, as well as the better color scheme makes him my fav scorpie.

There was a lot to like in Energon.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who saw the similarity between Sharkticon and IDW Finback.

Have to agree there were some nice toys in this range. Also enjoyed the comics, pity they stopped especially when the story was really going places.

Loved the fight between Megatron and Scorponok and Megatron's "Ten Years!" rant as he tore through the Terrorcon hordes.

Also liked the fact that we had basically 5 factions - Autobot, Decepticon, Mini-con, Terrorcon and Omni-con.

Often thought that the Energon toyline would have made a nice follow on from the old Marvel UK future stories with an updated Rodimus Prime and Galvatron. The return of Optimus and Scorponok from the dead, with Scorponok having being revived by Unicron and been given command of Unicron's Terrorcon hordes. Just a thought.

Someone mentioned earlier about Energon toys being reworked into Classics? Would love that and dare I suggest the following:

Divebomb as Banzai-tron
Battle Ravage as Rampage or an updated Ravage
Tidal Wave as Broadside
Sharkticon as Finback AND Krok as someone on another thread recently illustrated
Or at a stretch, Sharkticon and Slugslinger as Scourge and Cyclonus. Try to imagine the repaints.
Signal Flare as Mainframe.
Oh and Energon Galvatron makes a much nicer update than that Classics crap
Would love to see Checkpoint worked into Classics/G1 even as an updated G1 Prowl
Best Rodimus toy ever!!!

I'd forgotten how good this line was thanks to all the focus recently on the movie and Classics. Well done for taking us back CP.

I started collecting during the beginning of the movie line.

Once I started dabbling in Cybertron, I swore that I would NOT involve myself with Energon.

Once I held Landmine in my hands, though ... that was IT. I had to have Landquake. Then, what good is having anything of a TF toy line without Prime/megs? Next, it was off to Galvatron. Mirage, awesome ... need Dreadwing now. Ironhide, meh ... pretty cool, but would be better if we couldn't see his head.

Starscream, too small ... wait a minute, it's a really cool figure! Must have G1 redeco.

I already had classics devastator, so then I set out for Superion and Bruticus to complete my combiner molds. Awesome! The look stupid on pics, but they rule IMHO.

Slugslinger, a bit floppy ... but still really awesome looking in both modes. The trasformation is very "different," with all of those hinges and stuff.

Downshift, I'm not a huge fan ... but it's still a keeper. Rodimus rules. Together they are quite awesome.

Quickstrike, awesome! Bulkhead, "whooaaaa, dude ... the colors!"

There are some figures that I do not like at all, like cliffjumper! As a whole ... the line itself is quite amazing. I didn't see the cartoon yet, but plan to.

I agree with it being an awesome transitional line into Cybertron. The Cybertron line is just ... epic.

I came back into TF collecting when the Energon line was (to my knowledge) in full swing, and I'm glad I did. I had just missed out on Starscream, but promptly purchased him on eBay, i think he was actually my first ever eBay purchase. Energon definitely got me hooked as much as alts and the reissues did.

I did miss out on the big guys due to a low budget, but I am currently in the process of finding my very own Fatimus Prime...to be combined with a Wing Saber, of course.

i have a few delux linkers, prowl, inferno, towline, energon hotshot, roadblock and rodimus.

prowl and inferno are my favourites, i really like linking those 2 with prowl as the legs, if you push the legs in a bit and bring the bits that flip up/down on a lever over the thigh you dont have that frog leg look. it also looks better f the spoiler fin is up on the upper bots chest and not down like a silly skirt, prol has the potential to look very sill as teh legs and also very good with a bit of tweaking.

I feel energon is the nicest of the trilogy but there are some stinkers out there. I somehow got a perceptor in a big auction, the individual bots/alts are rather cute but the combined mode is awful.
