Never really saw the appeal with Hegemon myself, dodgy head sculpt, upside down arms, big ol' Lego brick legs and a poor alt mode, yet still people paid as much as I have for Apollyon!
It's a fantastic figure. Hegemon is a solid entry in the world of Megatron. Scary at first, in terms of transformation, but becomes a really nice figure in the end. Absolutely worth $100.00+
Each to there own but Im glad not to have dropped that kind of money on him.
I too was not a fan of the Hegemon figure. This coming from a guy who has Classics Voyager "Nerf Gun" Megatron. Commence head shaking  BUT Classics Megatron was $24.99 or $19.99 or somefin'? So I can live with the Nerfness.

Hasbro DOES own Nerf, why no firing darts?! :???:

Just watched the "video reviews" again. Still think Apollyon is faaaaantastic.

*sighs* I wish you guys would actually have these figures in hand before making such rash judgments.
If you get them in hand and still don't like 'em, that's fine, that I can understand, but without actually giving Hegemon a chance...I just don't get it.

I think it's partly that you guys don't want to pay the asking price for Hegemon and if you actually did have a chance to try him out, you'd end up spending the money and you just don't want to cough it up.

He's honestly worth it.

And I agree! I've heard nothing but positives for the figure, but for me I was happy to place that money towards figures I didn't have represented in my collection. I guess that's why I like Apollyon, I don't have a representation of Megatron to fit with my other "MP" figures. MP-05 and MP-01 go together by themselves, that works for me

I don't mind dropping that kind of money on a figure, but he's got to be something pretty special to do so, Hegemon had far to many ticks in the negative for me to drop money on him, especially when I had United Megatron, who for me is the definitive Classics Megs. I suppose what I'm getting at is that if I'm gonna drop big money on a 3rd party figure it's generally because Has/Tak have failed to provide a suitable version and are also unlikely to provide a suitable alternative, Hegemon being the case in point, Apollyon on the other hand is a no brainer, not just the best looking MP Megs we've seen but hands down the best Megs from any line we've seen.

Haha, And you know what, that's my best argument to those who wonder is MP 01 is still relevant now that there is an MP 10. The Answer is OF COURSE he is! Because you need someone to go up against MP 05 :)

Exactly! They do look great together. I remember when I first received MP05, found a way around the instability by posing on carpet

Now I just need to clean the rust/tarnish/pitting off of him this weekend! Maybe figure out how to tighten up the cannon arm shoulder...

Same for me. I've been preaching "Neo/Modern Update" for a long time now, but United/Henkei Megatron fits the bill perfectly. I don't need a perfect G1 Megs in my C/G collection.

Had the chance to manhandle the fig (Hegemon). Great effort I'd grant you that but the pics of this bad guys shows a distinct improvement. Again, once I manhandle an actual sample from my buddy who specializes in selling this stuff, I'll post my views again if the intial hype lives up to it.

I think we have a different idea of what a commercial is but that's all good; variety is the spice of life :)

Yes and no. Technically, this is the final version of the figure. They'll be including the shoulder pieces to help correct the ball joint issues, but what you see is pretty much what you'll get. This is production level last I heard, they're pretty much finished and getting ready to ship out in about 1.5 weeks or so.

You can consider it an ad if you want, but it's actually a review of the finished product. I can't imagine XTransbots will scrap the entire production run they've done so far, only to kill it and go back to the drawing board now. They'd lose a ton of money and it would probably destroy their chances of making a comeback with the people. Not to mention, they've begun work on Scourge and Windcharger will be close behind.

I considered it an ad cause he is paid (in toy) to show it off, but lets not get back into that. This thing looks good but don't know why I don't feel the need to have it... it's strange cause I buy 3rd Party all the time and while I try not to buy MP 3rd parties I have Toyworld's Shockwave... so I'm not 100% against the idea.. I mean I even have Xtransbots beachcomber on preorder... which probably won;t be coming out in April huh?

A lot of my stuff i send back although This one ive been allowed to keep which is fricken awesome , im not here to sell toys , im not a store , its a ruddy good figure was hard not to hide my enthusiasm for it...this came from a store not the actual third party to gauge interest on what peoples reactions are as to how many to order ect ..
so I still think im more of a reviewer than a showcaser IMO

A lot of my stuff i send back although This one ive been allowed to keep which is fricken awesome , im not here to sell toys , im not a store , its a ruddy good figure was hard not to hide my enthusiasm for it...this came from a store not the actual third party to gauge interest on what peoples reactions are as to how many to order ect ..
so I still think im more of a reviewer than a showcaser IMO

Nice review Ben, there has been some mention of "soft" plastic over at TFW2005, primarily on those little plastic pieces that swing out to form the foot, what's your take on this? Apparently someone had the hinge piece split on theirs.

the plastic on the legs is thinner but ive grabbed it and shaken it by those parts , they are def not softer plastic though , even the thin bits feel a huge step up from stacks , if that makes sense , def no Ollie bits on this guy

only way i can see the hinge splitting is if its forced the wrong way

Well that write up did say that maybe the tolerances for the pin or paint on that particular part were really tight so it was harder to move. I am assuming a lot of these are test/pre-production samples so that will have something to do with it. In addition there are so many factors that can cause differences from one figure to the next even in full production: the individual assembling the figure, temperature of the parts, minute differences in the paint, how thickly/thinly it is applied, minute/microscopic differences from one part to the next. There are lemons in every production run for every product you can imagine. Humans and the things we make are just not ever 100% perfect.

Then let us not forget that some of us are extremely ham fisted when transforming our toys while others are extremely dainty; so that plays into it as well.

Nope, I didn't force it the wrong way whatsoever (I'm not even sure how that would be possible given that it only folds outwards). The hinge was just jammed and wouldn't turn at all, and a modicum of pressure caused the plastic to split. I dare you to pick up the whole figure by the inner foot flap and wave it around. :) (Not that I did that!) Great review, by the way (as always).

Yep, that's exactly it. The hinge on the other foot is perfect and moves with no problem. The problem is purely that the hinge was too stiff (pretty much jammed so that it wouldn't move at all), and the plastic was too soft to withstand the pressure needed to work the hinge free - so even gently wiggling it to try and get the hinge to budge caused the plastic to split. I'm the only one out of all those who have received samples who has had this problem, though, and, as I say, it's only a issue if the hinge is too tight. i.e. Just bad luck. It's still something to be aware of, though - the plastic is leagues above Ollie, but there are still areas where you want to be careful, and where a tougher plastic would have helped a little.

It's a great figure over all, though, and now I've transformed it a couple of times I appreciate it even more (the transformation just takes a little getting used to, and you'll want to support the areas that hang off the metal arms so as not to put too much weight on them). If they'd used plastic for the silver parts that was more like the stuff FT uses (all the other parts have great plastic), this would be an FT-beater, I think. Even as it stands, though, it's the best thing XTB/KFC has ever done and is the best Megatron we've got, and I can't see TT beating it in terms of aesthetics. Also, all the minor issues he has are in the transformation - he is solid and hugely impressive in both modes.

Is the transformation at least less fiddly than MP 05 or around the same?

All of the reviewers, so far, have agreed that it's fiddly and scary the first time, but each time is much easier and it's definitely easier than MP-05.
