Why are you blaming BBTS? They are the retailer, they have zero control over the release date of the products they purchase from the manufacturers.warzon3 wrote:Where is this thing!!!???? Come on BBTS!!!!!

Re: X2 Toys upgrades for Hoist and Trailcutter
eh... not blaming them really... just antsy.
It is very weird that this kit has been shipped to many other retailers except them though. Very curious?
It is understandable they wouldn't get an entire shipment right off the bat, but you would think they would have gotten at least a few before the rest of the product came in.

As odd as this might sound, the pictures in my preorder tab for this thing keep changing. It's just... weird for me.
I dunno if it's an indication it's gonna process soon or not.

I went through the same dilemma, but since the shield projector and other bits on the US releases are painted silver, I opted to keep the original version in my preorder since I think it will match better.
I think the chromed versions would better match the Takara releases, which I believe are chromed.

So I feel like a complete asshole.
The original upgrade set as well as Takara's versions of Trailbreaker and Hoist are currently at the UPS depot down the road and I see that X2 Toys will be releasing a metallic version. Is there anyone with the upgrade set that also owns the Takara figures that can share any insight into how they go together, please?

My set arrived today. I'd say it was bitter sweet. It does help Trailbreaker's backpack, although it is a bit of a shame that you have to sacrifice giving him a gun if you want to have a backpack adapter. And it really helps Hoist's robot mode, although I do still think it is a major flaw that it then makes his tow arm off center on his vehicle mode.
Plastic quality seems decent. And the stickers were a minimal addition, but nice. (Of course, minimal does not equal bad... sometimes you can have overkill!)

Indeed, I liked the stickers. They "popped" a little more than the existing paint. One question for others who got this:

Shiny! I ordered the very first version, was contemplating switching to the chrome set, but ultimately didn't make the change. For those of you that got yours, are they as shiny as mine here? Or did you get the brushed aluminum look? I'm not complaining, but I am curious which version I ended up with.

Also of note, there was no additional paint on Hoist's wings; they are one solid color. I can't tell if I like this more or less than the original painted protos. I might take a silver sharpie to them for some more detail. They are fine this way, but I kinda liked the original color shots. What do y'all think?

I'd say you ended up with the chromed version. The silver on mine is quite nice, but definitely not that shiny! (It does match pretty perfectly with the silver paint Hasbro used, so that makes for a nicely unified look.) Also, mine does have the paint on Hoist's wings, so that must have been omitted on the chrome version.

I think the set works very excellently with both in robot mode. Trailbreaker's integrates well into vehicle mode. Hoist... I'm still peeved with the off center towing arm in vehicle mode. I suppose one can cheat it a bit with camera angles:

...but the cheating falls apart when one has to look at it in real life.
So yeah, that is quite annoying. But overall, I suppose I am happy with this set.

So I just ordered the Chrome version for my Hasbro Trailbreaker and Hoist. is there going to be any problems in terms of plastic colors mismatching? I really hope not but i can't say no to chrome guns =/

I think it looks decent. On the one hand I'd love to match the brushed aluminum look of the other parts on the figures. On the other hand, the chrome muzzle hands are very G1-esque, and I like it. I don't think it looks out of place at all.

I'm still keeping my eyes open for a non-chrome set, as I prefer that.
If I can't find one online, maybe I can find one at a con this summer.
If not, I just stick with the chromed set.
I can think of worse problems to have

I got mine in the mail today and ... the wings immediately broke off the hinge. There was huge stress marks. It can still sit in it's spot, but it isn't very secure.

what i was really hoping for when i thought of an upgrade set for these guys was a more G1 accurate head for trailcutter, thus making him a better trailbreaker. and chromed gun hand replacements like the gears of war inferno upgrade. i think that whole assembly you have to attach to their arms for the gun hand is cumberson and unnecessary. coulda just made something to slip nicely over the hand.
(btw, the inferno GOW hand gun thingy doesnt fit on tc/hoist's hands. i tried.)
though i will say, the additions this set gives to hoist look great.

His head looks pretty G1 accurate to me. It looks a lot like the G1 cartoon. Unless you mean G1 toy accurate ? Usually the Generations lines shoot more for the cartoon/comic. The only interest I would have in Trailbreaker having a faceplate is if they give us a blue Diaclone repaint.

heres some pics.... hasbros, takaras, g1 toon.
trailbreaker i think has one of those "older" looking faces, and his it was never silver. it should be the same black as the rest of his head. though i can see them wanting to have something to distinguish his face from the rest of his head, so maybe a dark grey would be nice. and so long as we're going for toon accuracy, the head thingy should be on one shoulder, and he should have another miscelanious cannon missle thingy on the other.
like i said, hoists upgrades look great, but they dropped the ball on trailbreaker in my opinion. i know this is all nitpicky, but dont these 3rd party add ons exist for people like me?
