Bit of a shame for those that only wanted the Hoist kit.

BBTS wrote:The purpose of this message is to inform you that X2 Toys has changed the assortment for product XT10000. The new set will now consist of both Hoist and Trailcutter. Due to the additional item added, the cost of your existing preorder has been adjusted to $29.99 respectively. If you are interested in cancelling your preorder you may do so by updating the quantity to zero in the preorders section of your BBTS account.

That seems a bit messed up to me. Sounds like X2 have little faith that they'd sell many of the Trailcutter set on it's own so they've lumped it in with Hoist. I'm cool with this as I was going to go for both since they reduced the cost.

I suspect this stems for a poorly-worded solicitation sent to retailers. The clues were there that this would be one set and BBTS misread it.

That's cool, and the pricing makes more sense this way. I still ain't getting a set unless they create one for the Takara versions though.

Costs me an extra penny, though... $14.99 plus $14.99 is $29.98.

(And no, I'm not actually serious.)

This is just fine by me as I was ordering both at this lower price point anyway. Now, how about some color pics?

Anyone else see this hand cannon that someone designed on Shapeways for these guys...

Looks nice!

The X2 kit is a must have because of the backpacks, but I think I prefer this cannon better....

Nice... but I'll stick with the X2 set. It offers more then just the hand cannons, and seems fully storable in both modes. Besides, while I often see interesting things there, I've yet to convince myself to try anything Shapeways out. I'm a simple man, happier with something I'm able to use as is out of the box, maybe with some minimal disassembly and reassembly. With Shapeways stuff, I always come across mention of things needing sanding and painting, which turns me off.

Usually I jump for the kits that enhance their homage, but X2 doesn't do it for me. I am more interested in the gun renders posted by Javaco

Well, to each their own! I think the Transformers fandom is big enough for the both of us.

I didn't want to start a debate. I just think the Shapeways cannon has a more G1 feel if that is your thing.

As I said before. The X-2 kit is a must have for the backpacks regardless.

I like Shapeways. If you just have to paint just something silver or black, like for a gun, it isn't that bad.

Looking good! Only thing I am wondering is if those are the final colors, or just the plastic colors? In other words, will there be any paint and/or chrome on these things? I'm mainly concerned about the hand weapons, which could really use some chrome or some silver paint. (I'd be fine with either.)

They were noted as "colour prototypes," so I am hopeful that indicates just the plastic color and not the final detailing. And, I suppose, worst case scenario, that is what silver Sharpies are for... But with luck it shan't come to that.

My personal opinion is that the G1 style blasters offered through Shapeways might clash with the overly IDW styling of the figures. And yeah, the fully produced final products coupled with the backpack mean I'm happy to keep my pre-order for the X2 set.

I just realised the part next to trailbreakers right foot has the vent painted silver which looks to be the back end of the blaster on his hand :-? .

Seems to be some new pictures, with more full coloring.

Also, I personally don't see why you'd want to do this, but it looks like if you only have either Trailcutterbreaker or Hoist but not both, it is possible to use everything on only one figure.

I also think these might come with stickers. I couldn't help but notice that the figures looked like they had additional details beyond the painted detail that comes on the toys. And looking at the picture someone else posted of the instructions, I noticed what looks like a sticker map:

I wasn't planning on getting this, but the pics are actually looking pretty nice. I like the paint details on Hoist's wings.

Did anyone ever do a production run for Grappel/Inferno wings? Or hand blasters? Or head boxes?

I could be mistaken (and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) but I think the only physical third party accessory either of those two got was the ladder that TFC toys made for Inferno. (Made available as part of their Gear of War accessory set.)

Image

The main reason I wanted that set was that ladder. Although I do also quite like the autoscout as well, and the guns/rocket launchers were okay. (Completely non-functional firing mechanism,as the thickness of the chrome wasn't figured into their tolerances... but cool looking if you don't mind they don't fire.) The only part that seemed useless to me was the big plastic box for Mirage... never even folded that together.

I wouldn't turn them down if they looked good, but I never thought Grappel or Inferno needed much more. Trailbreaker and Hoist, on the other hand, seem significantly helped by these upgrades.

Well, obviously the Reprolabels... But I was only talking three dimensional additions!

Good luck on your search, looks like it shouldn't be too difficult. I see a few examples on eBay for under $40 shipped. (A bit much perhaps for just the ladder, but hopefully you also like some of the other things the set comes with.)
