Dread Wing
"Knowledge is power, use it wisely."
Level 2 Decepticon
Dread Wing's Bio
Dreadwing is a very old transformer, serving as Air Marshal for the Cybertronian forces before the re-emergence of the Decepticons under Megatron. He was recruited by Shockwave and Megatron when they required an experienced flyer to train their air corps. Dreadwing soon established himself as a great teacher, soon becoming master of the Decepticon War Academy, with a young Seeker named Starscream as his star pupil.
Dreadwing became more and more concerned about Megatron's aggressive policies as time went on. Dreadwing sees the Decepticon's primary function as the defence of Cybertron, not galactic conquest. At the end of the golden age, just after Megatron killed Sentinel Prime, Dreadwing was 'disappeared', blasted in the back and dumped into one of Cybertron's huge metallic chasms.
Millions of years later, Dreadwing came online, thousands of tiny scurrying bots covered him, repairing and rebuilding his systems into a strange form. He stumbled through the caverns and tunnels at the heart of Cybertron, led by whispers in his head, to a tomb. Heavily boobytrapped, Dreadwing's skills allowed him to enter the Mausoleum, where a great and ancient Decepticon leader lay interred. Gripped in Murdron's cold dead hands was the Decepticon matrix of leadership, taken by the former leader to his grave. The whispers in Dreadwing's head grew to a shout - 'You must bear this burden, and prepare the one who is destined to use it!' Dreadwing ripped the matrix from Murdron's hands and his sensors were overwhelmed with images, past, present and future. When he awoke he was on the surface, and he knew what had to be done. He transformed and set course for Shockwave's citadel, and the space bridge to earth.
On emerging from the space bridge on Earth, Dreadwing began to slowyly and secretly chip away at Megatron's power base, recruiting discontented Decepticons to his cause. Thundercracker and Blitzwing joined him eagerly, Starscream accepted the help of his old mentor during one of his banishments from Megatron's side. The relations with the Autobots were cool but not overtly hostile at this point, Dreadwing was largely hidden, and not acting directly against either Autobot or Megatron.
Dreadwing's faction was eventually crushed by Megatron through the machinations of Ratbat. Dreadwing was ripped limb from limb and and buried in cement in a form of living death as punishment for challenging Megatron. For this reason, Dreadwing was not present for the attack on Autobot city or the events that followed. Dreadwing was chipped and out restored by the constructions under the orders of Blitzwing after the disappearance of Galvatron.
Open warfare between Dreadwing's Decepticons and the Autobots would not occur until after the death of Optimus Prime. Rodimus' hot headedness and determination to defeat the Decepticons prevented peace when Dreadwing and his followers returned to Cybertron.
Eventually the Cybertronians did ally against (initially) Galvatron and the restored Unicron after the return of Prime, in order to wage the desperate war against Zarak and the Fallen's armies.
