The result of an ill-advised Maximal experiment to create a spark similar in abilities to the legendary Decepticon Starscream’s. In short they wished to create a spark that would never go off line, even though they were already as a race blessed with a long life span they still searched for ways to cheat death, and for ways to become immortal. They quickly learned however that few beings are mentally equipped to have such a burden placed upon them. Knowing that he could never die and the decisions that he would make in life would always haunt him, the first being with this new, enhanced spark quickly went insane.
The being dubbed Protoform X by the Maximal scientists was highly intelligent, and craved to live his life to the fullest. Having been denied what many call the "last great adventure," he sought to learn second hand what it was to die. Pain to others quickly became a drug to him, his addiction quickly turning his Maximal creators against him. Eventually, and with great cost of life, Protoform X was captured and placed into a quantum adamantium stasis pod. One of the members of the Maximal council, Optimus Primal, agreed to take a small crew on a mission to dispose of the failed project on a planet where he couldn’t pose a threat to anyone.
However a mission of even greater importance sidetracked Primal and his crew and highly damaged his vessel. Before crashing on the planet all of the stasis pods that they were carrying were launched into orbit. Including the massive pod that contained Protoform X. Primal knew that they’d have to deal with it in time; he just hoped that the pod would contain the power that lay dormant inside.
This was not meant to be however. Events transpired that lead to the release of the Protoform X, who had been forced to join the Predacons that the Maximal forces were fighting and had been given the name Rampage.
Depth Charge successfully destroyed the body of Rampage, and with it Primal and the others thought, the spark of Protoform X as well. Things however are never meant to be that simple. Half of the Protoform X spark rested in a second transformer, the reborn Predacon Dinobot. Dinobot was a being that defined honorable action in combat and it was only through him having only half a spark that the Predacon commander Megatron was able to subdue this honor code of Dinobot’s. When Rampage was destroyed the spark merged with the half that Dinobot carried, thus making it whole once again. Dinobot instantly remembered who and what he was, and what it was like to fight honorably. He gave his life a second time to stop Megatron. In this sacrifice, the spark of Protoform X learned what it was like to have honor.
The spark had found something that he craved more then the pain of death. Though un-homed for now, the spark of Protoform X knew that in time he would find a body once again, and when he did, he would only fight with honor, and would only fight for a commander that was honorable as well. If this were not the case, then the commander would die at his own hands. Eventually, much like Starscream's immortal spark, Protoform X was able to travel back to Cybertron. Here he hijacked a malfunctioned Decepticon body, and infused it with his undead spark and strength.
In Hovercraft mode, Protoform X uses his hulking quad-engines to generate colossal tidal waves, induce earthquakes, and trigger landslides all over Cybertron. Though his bulk hinders his overall dexterity, Protoform X makes good use of his impenetrable armor and multi-weapons arsenal in Hovercraft and robot modes. Galva-conductors on his back channel deadly electric currents that he disperses at will. Protoform X customarily activates his Gatling cannon to finish off his enemies in a deluge of cluster missiles. All Cybertrons fear his unmatched aggression. Strangely, Protoform X only respects warriors that he deems worthy. This includes the Autobots, which caused Decepticon leaders Thunderwing and Shockwave to seek out the Stealthicons in the hopes that Protoform X could be utilized in the squad because of the honor that Quietstorm harbors.
Decepticon leader Thunderwing came to Quietstorm and asked him if there was anyway that the deadly and colossal Protoform X could enter the ranks of the Stealthicons. At first, Quietstorm was reluctant. But eventually he allowed Protoform X to join the Stealthicons. In the beginning, Protoform X stayed in the shadows and was active only in a handfull of Missions. When the Decepticon barricade of space Sector 560 was breached by the small Autobot squad, called the Star Furies, Quietstorm recalled Protoform X to the front lines.
Protoform X has an uncanny respect for the Stealthicons, and particularly Quietstorm and Deathtrack. This mysterious behemoth also shares a certain amount of respect for the small Autobot-turned-Decepticon Wheelie. Protoform X is slowly learning to apply stealth and honor into his battle techniques, as opposed to his shoot first ask questions later approach. Quietstorm has his hands full watching all of the Stealthicons and feels that should something go wrong with Protoform X, he and his troops may not be able to contain the rampaging beast within. Quietstorm has enlisted the help of Fodder and Deathtrack to keep their optics on Protoform X.
Quietstorm hopes that that time will never come, and truly wants to see Protoform X develop the same skills that only the hulking behemoth respects.
