Earlier this week it was announced by UPI that for the first time in movie history, that four Hollywood movies were breaking the $300 million mark in domestic sales at the same time! Today Reuters has gone as far as to reporting on their site that Hollywood Studio's are looking at a $4 billion summer record at U.S. and Canadian box offices after this past weekend, citing that movies, including Transformers, had beaten all expectations.
Another overseas record was also broken over the weekend as The Hollywood Reporter points out in their article that an unprecedented six movies grossed over $10 million dollars at the box office at the same time in a single weekend!

Not bad for a middle of winter release, that only had a week in a school holiday period.

So it's true? The seasons really do switch? I've never been south of the equator.
Where is Harry Potter? I thought it would've done better! But yay for Transformers and Spiderman!

I had heard that before, but for all the Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel I watch, I've never heard it discussed at length. I know more about Neptune than Australia.
And credit my idiocy to the American education system.

Awesome.
Maybe I just retain information on countries I actually care about! Or planets, for that matter...
I know a lot of useless information, and I did know that....or at least heard about it...and now I know. And knowing is half the battle.

No need to crack on him. Plenty of people don't realize what goes on beyond their four walls.
Hell, Canadians are people too! Whodathunk it?!

Dang it, I'm not THAT stupid! (and I'm a girl, but thanks for sticking up for me) I said I had heard that, but never had anyone from Australia actually verify it. Sure came off as a dumbsh*t moment on my part, though, didn't it...
Canada is America's cleaner, safer neighbor. I went into Canada when I went to Niagra falls and it was a nice experience. Though South Park's interpretation of Canadians is absolutely hilarious....I believe I am the queen of disjointed, incoherent thoughts.

In some parts of Asia, Transformers was still a #1 blockbuster movie until now, especially in China and Korea. Malaysia and Singapore also had new records for ticket sales for this movie.

Last I checked on boxofficemojo.com, Harry Potter had about $278 million or so domestically. It's done much better internationally than Transformers, although Transformers has been closing the gap lately.

Well I hoped you were joking because I consider it a part of basic geography. My faith in the American education system was low to begin with, you just totally destroyed it for me.
But yes, everything south of equator tends to work in reverse, it's why we have such a high occurrences of dogs getting stuck in trees and why we have to rely on the Drop Bears to get them down.
