Hasbro rarities eBay seller z75sales is at it again! This time it's an unboxing video of G2 items he has had, and currently has, available for sale among his eBay listings. (Link is included below.) Before we watch a piece of TF history unfold before our eyes, let's take a small trip down memory lane with these amazing finds and their incredible auction listings.
It all started here, with a G2 Menasor auction that went for a stellar price. Followed by unreleased G2 Gobots figures, a whole set even! Not even close to finished, seller z75sales even posted auctions for other G2 rarities, including ATB Megatron! Heck, he even had a crystal clear prototype of Beast Wars Transmetals Optimus Primal!
He even shared some videos of the unboxing of this incredible collection, obtained by the estate of a former Hasbro employee. You can see the previous video articles here, here and here.
z75sales has posted a new unboxing video on YouTube showing off the discovery of a good portion of the unreleased G2 items, including the aforementioned Gobots and even includes some G2 Dinobots as well, among other miscellaneous things such as missiles and assorted accessories.

Do we have any confirmed background information on this enterprise just yet? I've seen some rumors about estate liquidation for the widow of an Hasbro engineer (and similar such rumors), but it would be interesting to know for certain the circumstances under which this massive collection of rarities is being sold.

I found it rather interesting (and telling) that among all these G2 toys, there was a Mirage and a Smokescreen. There's already information to support that Mirage was to be in G2 (with an alligator theme... go fig), but first I've heard of a possible plan to have SS in G2. Of course, it could just be a coincidence...

Ebay seller z75sales is at it again posting rare and hard to find Transformers. He has posted the unreleased G2 gobots sets before, however this newest set is carded and Includes all 6 figures. The cards are actually mock up High Beam cards and they are also AFA graded. This set could be all yours for a cool $7,999.

We actually two confirmed names, not surprisingly reused from G1: Hound and Rumble. Hound should be a no-brainer, and Rumble is that red and white Vinny Racer. The latter was first used as RiD Side Swipe.

Well, I can give you the designation given to them by a Toys for Tots auction, which is basically the first time they got name, with the RiD 2001 character for easy reference:
- "911 Police Car" (Prowl 2)
- "GTP Racer" (Daytonus)
- "Black Viper" (Side Burn)
And then, there's:
- Rumble (Side Swipe)
As for the other two I just call them "Mercedes" and Hound.

Also, as far as the G2 Stunticons go, I'd love to see the Collectors' Club do a repaint of the BotCon 2011 Stunticon set in G2 colors. I understand it wasn't the most popular set, but I like it and I'd get the G2 version nonetheless.

I feel like rare Minibot collectors probably look down on us rare Minicon collectors and laugh. The rarest of the rare Minicon teams (3 toys) goes for a grand, and here's this one single Minibot going for that on its own.

As some of you might remember, a year ago (practically to the day), an unreleased G2 Menasor set sold for $26,815 on Ebay. Well, as it turns out, the buyer is now putting it up for bid to let someone else get this rare piece of Transformers History. There are currently 5 days left on the auction and the bidding is already nearing the 5 digit mark.
There are a few things to note though. While this is a rare and unreleased piece, there are at least 10 more of these that exist (which we know of). This is the one which is in the best quality but it is not complete. It is missing the combiner head/mask to completely form Menasor. Major bummer, I know. On the bright side, with G2 Menasor being so much in the public eye, it could inspire a redeco for Combiner Wars Menasor and then everyone can get their G2 Menasor on the cheap(er).

They are in plastic Ziploc-style baggies, but beyond that, they're also in sealed plastic bags, sort of like Botcon toys. Opening those would absolutely KILL the value. No one paying nearly $30,000 dollars is going to be doing that, unless they sleep on a mattress that is stuffed with money and pee in toilets made of solid gold.

You know what would be neat? If the combiner wars hand/foot/guns were modeled after those large guns the G1 Stunticons came with, and fit on to the vehicle like they would.

The line was also "bullied out" by the myriad of other action figure toy lines with accompanying shows in the 90's, with Power Rangers taking the cake. Seriously, the 90's had tons of toy line driven shows.

Seibertronians, you got $20,000+ currently burning a hole in your pocket? Well, we might have the buy for you. It turns out another unreleased G2 Stunticon prototype set has hit the ebays, with the bid currently sitting just over $1,000 USD at time of writing, although if the previous listings for the set are any indication, this combiner team can easily fetch 20 times that. That previous indication, of course, being when a different G2 Menasor prototype sold for over $26,000 USD. This will be one to watch, as this set is more complete than the former, so it could garner even higher numbers.

Honestly, I think the previous one was more complete. That one had all the paint apps and individual robot/vehicle accessories, missing only Menasor's head. This one is missing alot of those bits, missing a bunch of vehicle-mode paint apps, but comes with a G1 Menasor head to make it look more complete and a decent story behind it though.
Hard to say if it'll do better or worse than the last, and it's my understanding the previous one's buyer suffered remorse and asked for a refund from the seller, claiming it was mis-advertised.

I don't recall if the buyer said if he got his refund.
Still, these things are pretty neat to look at when they surface.

Dunno actually, I saw the story play out on TFW where the buyer bought it as it was advertised as a nearly one of a kind holy grail type item, only afterwards to be notified by the 'really really high end collectors' that we TF fans barely know exist and was told that in their circles the G2 prototypes aren't that rare, and there were a few that were actually complete. I don't recall if the buyer said if he got his refund.
Still, these things are pretty neat to look at when they surface.

I heard rumor this past Botcon that there are a couple dozen more-or-less complete ones being hoarded and slowly trickled out. That feels a little too tin-foil hat for me, but I'd still caution folks against thinking these are as scarce as once believed.
Super rare, yes, but I think it's closer to the Lucky Draw realm quantity wise than the "once in a lifetime" one.

I like both rare minicons and rare minibots but I've been able to trip over both over the years without having to pay much for them.
It's not something I want to pay hundreds for though. It's nice to have somethings that some people didn't even know existed though.
But just because something is rare doesn't mean it's desirable that is often the case with some test shots that ebay seller simply can not get rid of for years on end even after repeated reductions in price.

I used to collect Prototypes but the availability got much rarer once the manufacturing moved away from china so I sort of moved over to KO's instead.
And frankly there is some KO's that are every bit as exciting quirky or interesting as legit samples are. In fact several of my grail items are KO's such as the repainted KO G1 Scorponok for example.

Only ended up going for $10,700. Almost a full $10,000 less than the last set seen. I think the difference was that the previous set had stickers applied, and was bagged.
I still wonder why I've never seen a G2 Defensor up for auction on eBay. I've been back into collecting for almost a decade and have seen less than a handful of individual G2 Protectobots up for auction.

There may very well be many more G2 Stunticon sets than first thought. But that still doesn't explain my main question: Why are the G2 Protectobots so rare as to be almost nonexistent? I've seen a G2 Blades or two, a G2 Streetwise or two, and one G2 Groove, and that's IT. Never a G2 Hot Spot or G2 First Aid up. And never as a complete set.
My secondary questions are: Would Hasbro ever reissue/produce the G2 Stunticons and Protectobots in G2 colors? And beast combiners aside, we have gotten EVERY single G1 combiner ever released and then some (G2 Menasor and Liokaiser) in Combiner Wars, so why not G2 Defensor? Not even a PEEP about him ever being planned or thought about.
