Maybe in select theatres, but it was made to be sold on DVD, like the DC Animated films. But in this now age of streaming, a theatrical release is meaningless. It's still a TF film made by a studio.
Though I don't see that nor animated beast Wars getting into the SS line.

You should put SS Bee Soundwave and FoC Soundwave up front so he can see them.LinaNui wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Makes me wanna see comparison shots of SS BB Soundwave with FOC Soundwave. He was a big Voyager too.

I brought this up when people were complaining about the 86 line, I think it would be great to see the other animated films from the Transformers brand represented in the Studio Series line.

Since this was a theatrically released Movie. Could/Should this open up it's own Studio Series line?

Same with "Bad Spark" being omitted from the Japanese DVDs since it too was released theatrically in Japan.
This is basically the same thing that happened for Transformers Animated's two TV specials, "Transform and Roll Out" and "TransWarped", which both first aired as feature-length TV specials before being cut up into three-part episode form later.
Similarly, the first three episodes of Prime's third season aired in Singapore as a combined TV movie, but aired everywhere else in episode format.
Conversely, many of Prime's multi-part episodes were released on DVD in an edited-together format to present them as feature-length DVD movies: "Darkness Rising" went from five episodes to one movie, seven serialized episodes ("One Shall Fall", "One Shall Rise, Parts 1-3", and "Orion Pax, Parts 1-3") were combined into a movie called "One Shall Stand", and the first four episodes of season 3 (s "Darkmount, NV", "Scattered", "Prey", and "Rebellion") were combined into a movie called "Dawn of the Beast" (essentially what aired earlier in Singapore only without the fourth part, giving it a cliffhanger ending in that version).

The Beast Wars season 3 episode "Cutting Edge" was released as a theatrical film in Japan. It was extended with added footage from "Optimal Situation" to recap Optimus's "great transformation" to the viewers since that season hadn't aired on TV in Japan yet. It's the only Season 3 episode that was omitted from the Japanese DVD release of Beast Wars Metals since it's counted as a movie instead of an episode.AllNewSuperRobot wrote:It's weird to think that in spite of the run time, this is the only other Transformers film. The Movie, Bayformers, BB and this BW2 movie.

Predacons Rising is something of a gray area. It was first released as a TV movie on the Hub, but eventually was added to the show's episode rerun rotation as Episodes 66, 67, and 68, split up into three parts.AllNewSuperRobot wrote:I didn't follow Prime, so I had no idea about Predacons Rising. At the time, yeah, when they used to be double features with other anime movies. These days anime films made to go with TV series tend to have full feature length run times. Most recently Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has a two hour run time, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is 1h 45m, and Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time runs 2h 34m. Even One Piece went from their earlier movies being less than hour 20 years ago to their most recent ones being on either side of two hours.

If only Beast Wars had been given an actual movie. Imagine The Nemesis finale being reworked with a movie budget? We might have gotten to see the Coneheads appearance that Simon Furman envisioned.
To me, if it could be broken evenly into parts, that would mean Predacons Rising doesn't count as a Movie in the same context as BW2. Following the logic of that, every multipart Transformers story could be classified as a film. Five Faces of Darkness, The Rebirth, Other Voices, The Agenda etc, etc Which isn't the case.
The precedent set so far for the Studio Series, theatrically released features, keeps it more black and white. Which is obviously academic, as neither PR nor BW2 have a chance of joining this line. As we've all already noted.
I just thought to add it once more to the conversation since BW2 is so radically different to the current output of the SS line. It could add some variety. Taken from the era that didn't keep forcing out a new Prime, BB, Ratchet etc into every new project.
I have friends that collect the SS line and I respect what has been achieved with these figures. While not for me. If they gave new versions of Spittor*, Iguanus* or the Gestalts produced at this level of quality. Then, I'd be interested.

The first core class toys from the Studio Series line have now been found on US shelves. Shockwave and Ravage, both from the Bumblebee Movie, were found at a Texas Walmart which looked really well stocked, especially coming out of the Christmas shipping season. Th photo was posted by @PopCultureJunk2 on Twitter. As can be seen in the picture below, these core class figures were placed on pegs a little off from the main Transformers section, which was too full.
Spike will be in wave 2 and he has already been found in the middle east so that wave could show up soon in other places as well.
If you have found them, share your sightings with our community in the sightings section and on our boards in your region related thread.

I picked them up (Online via Kapow) for a friend who is collecting the Core Class. I misread the description and thought they were '86 SS

The original intent of Predacon rising was a straight to video movie release. What happens after doesn't matter.

Exactly. TF:TM was split into 5 parts in 1988/89 and shown with other episodes in the puppet prime reruns. That dosen't make it any less of movie. Same for Predacons Rising.

Yes, but I'm not hugely pleased with Ravage. He doesn't look good in either mode, or in Soundwave's chestwilliam-james88 wrote:transformers_va wrote:Just found Shockwave & Ravage today in a Virginia Walmart... looked to have several in stock

I'll give you that, but there is a bit of a difference in feel of production value between theatrical releases and "made-for-TV" or "straight-to-DVD": the latter category is notorious for lackluster sequels of successful theatrical movies, plus the lower budget really shows.

True. Predacons Rising dosen't have the feel of a theatrical release. But personally, I still think it's a pretty awesome addendum to a series that had a really strong ending as it was.
