The Beast Wars season 3 episode "Cutting Edge" was released as a theatrical film in Japan. It was extended with added footage from "Optimal Situation" to recap Optimus's "great transformation" to the viewers since that season hadn't aired on TV in Japan yet. It's the only Season 3 episode that was omitted from the Japanese DVD release of Beast Wars Metals since it's counted as a movie instead of an episode.AllNewSuperRobot wrote:It's weird to think that in spite of the run time, this is the only other Transformers film. The Movie, Bayformers, BB and this BW2 movie.
Predacons Rising is something of a gray area. It was first released as a TV movie on the Hub, but eventually was added to the show's episode rerun rotation as Episodes 66, 67, and 68, split up into three parts.AllNewSuperRobot wrote:I didn't follow Prime, so I had no idea about Predacons Rising. A quick look on the wiki only mentions 'Hulu'. So I assume it wasn't released in cinemas. Which would mean BW2 counts more towards this line than it would.

Jelze Bunnycat wrote:In fact they're more like longer episodes given their runtime (under 1 hour), and can't really be compared to feature length movies here.

Same with "Bad Spark" being omitted from the Japanese DVDs since it too was released theatrically in Japan.

This is basically the same thing that happened for Transformers Animated's two TV specials, "Transform and Roll Out" and "TransWarped", which both first aired as feature-length TV specials before being cut up into three-part episode form later.
Similarly, the first three episodes of Prime's third season aired in Singapore as a combined TV movie, but aired everywhere else in episode format.
Conversely, many of Prime's multi-part episodes were released on DVD in an edited-together format to present them as feature-length DVD movies: "Darkness Rising" went from five episodes to one movie, seven serialized episodes ("One Shall Fall", "One Shall Rise, Parts 1-3", and "Orion Pax, Parts 1-3") were combined into a movie called "One Shall Stand", and the first four episodes of season 3 (s "Darkmount, NV", "Scattered", "Prey", and "Rebellion") were combined into a movie called "Dawn of the Beast" (essentially what aired earlier in Singapore only without the fourth part, giving it a cliffhanger ending in that version).

To me, if it could be broken evenly into parts, that would mean Predacons Rising doesn't count as a Movie in the same context as BW2. Following the logic of that, every multipart Transformers story could be classified as a film. Five Faces of Darkness, The Rebirth, Other Voices, The Agenda etc, etc Which isn't the case.

The original intent of Predacon rising was a straight to video movie release. What happens after doesn't matter.
Yes, but I'm not hugely pleased with Ravage. He doesn't look good in either mode, or in Soundwave's chestwilliam-james88 wrote:transformers_va wrote:Just found Shockwave & Ravage today in a Virginia Walmart... looked to have several in stock
Did you get them?

Exactly. TF:TM was split into 5 parts in 1988/89 and shown with other episodes in the puppet prime reruns. That dosen't make it any less of movie. Same for Predacons Rising.
o.supreme wrote:True. Predacons Rising dosen't have the feel of a theatrical release. But personally, I still think it's a pretty awesome addendum to a series that had a really strong ending as it was.

Plus it has its own accompanying merchandise.

Well it was Target exclusive. Was it hard to find in the US?
It aired on TV first, four days before its DVD release.william-james88 wrote:AllNewSuperRobot wrote:

So then it's a "TV movie" rather than a "DVD movie".o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:It aired on TV first, four days before its DVD release.william-james88 wrote:AllNewSuperRobot wrote:

Similar to how all of WB major films in 2021 were released in theaters and on HBO Max the same day. Except PR only aired once before the DVD release, and still as a single film.

Is the same also true of "Transform and Roll Out" and "TransWarped"? As they too were later split into episode form after their initial broadcasts as TV specials.william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:So then it's a "TV movie" rather than a "DVD movie".o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:It aired on TV first, four days before its DVD release.william-james88 wrote:AllNewSuperRobot wrote:
