The sort of cyclops type one in the front looks really rad, don't think I've seen that kind of face design in TF before.

Oooooooooooh right. He's being written by James Roberts. Apparently that's all that's needed.

But in all seriousness Thunderclash had quite a bit of history even if he has only appeared in one issue other characters talk about Thunderclash enough to have some history.
And that James Roberts comment was just rude we the readers are not that bias.

It's not so much an introduce as it feels like a "hey look who was here THE WHOLE TIME" Nikel was handled well, fire stars intro is separated by one issue. I would have rather seen a little more. And I hate the "hair". It must have some Camien religious purpose but I think it's step in the unrealistic direction.

It's true though. The preview of 39 with the introduction of Nickel before the issue came out and people just gushed over her. All she did was nag in the preview and the boards were screaming "SO CUTE! "NEW FAV CHARACTER!" "I LOVE NICKEL!" Cmon, if she had shown up in any other book she wouldn't get that much praise. D.O.C. showed in in a preview of RID with Jetfire and no one cared. That can even be said for the DJD in general. Characterless, over powered empty shells yet people scratch and claw over them praying for hasbro or third parties to make toys all because they're in mtmte and are Roberts babies.
If roberts introduces a twig and has tailgate snap it, tumblr will cry out and start dissecting the signifigance and deep meaning of what the twig meant.

I think we need to consider the audiences too. The transformers and Windblade appear to do better with longtime fans and have greater use of established characters for the most part.
More Than Meets The Eye is a whole new beast altogether. This comic is essentially a combination of dark and light, seriousness and humor, old and new. They introduce a lot of new characters so they don't have to use the same old guys over and over. Swerve, Whirl, Tailgate among others have received super-stardom through MTMTE. Heck, when issue 38 finally came out, #MTMTE was one of the most popular tags on Tumblr, which is a pretty big social media site. MTMTE is for anyone and everyone and it uses lots of ideas and methods from many different sources. That's why it is my favorite comic of all time: It is utterly unique and I love it, and apparently so do a lot of people who use social media

In all fairness to John Barber, James Roberts did a far better job in making Nickel an interesting character in a few pages than Barber has done in all of D.O.C.'s appearances. Same for the DJD, or at least Tarn: Roberts made him a compelling character.
There is a reason people like James Roberts, even if you don't see it.

I don't understand why boys have such a knee jerk reaction to girls in the TF world. We're not going to give you cooties (or cyber cooties in the case of the Bots)
As long as they aren't GiggleBots I'll be happy. I'd like more strong female characters (our girls need to grow up knowing it's okay to not like MLP and instead like giant alien robots, and be able to identify with the characters, just please refrain from airhead dimwits, Mr Roberts, I have faith you can write a good solid female character...)
I'd like to see more female oriented Cons... besides the angry bitch stereotypes (we can evil without being unexplainably angry and b****y)
Not a fan of the fire hair...

Missing the point entirely.
Females have been established to be a rarity on cybertron. Yes, there used to be lots but they left with the other colonies.
My point is not that there are females, my point is that it's established that they are being reintroduced to cybertronian civilization. To suddenly have female characters appear along side cybertronians as if they were always there is the problem. Fire star should be someone who just signed on. Not someone very familiar with Thunderclash and his generals. I mean it's possible, but it seems unlikely that we wouldn't see her before now, given their rarity.
Again, not about them being girls, but rather sticking with continuity. Roberts probably has it taken care of, he's good with that.

Actually, I get your point completely.
But Windblade, Chromia, and Nautica established that Thunderclash had contact with female bots, so the appearance of more when coming into contact with Thunderclash isn't a far stretch.
I'm not sold on the Sea of Rust girl combiner team, though that one is easy to explain away, but connecting the dots with the space ship faring, planet hopping, Bot is pretty simple.
Now if all the sudden chick's were popping up hanging on Rodimus' arm on the Lost Light, that would be a WTF? NO! Moment

Ok, now that you mention it I do remember that. That's really my only issue with it so I withdraw my criticism. I'm actually happy we are seeing more female characters and if fire star didn't have that stupid fire hair I'd think she was a great design.

I'm not exactly getting the impression that Firestar has been around the whole time, from reading this panel. It doesn't suggest anywhere that Firestar has been on the Vis Vitalis for a considerable length of time. In Dark Cybertron it was mentioned that Nautica, Chromia and Windblade left Caminus when Thunderclash found them. I have a feeling Roberts is going to expand upon that and include these newly introduced Camiens as others that joined the crew of the Vis Vitalis. The fact that the cover looks like a reunion celebration suggests this. I think Season 2 kicked off 6 months after Dark Cybertron, so it's probably at least a year on from then now, long enough for the fembots to be considered part of the Vis Vitalis crew.
As for the flame hair...I neither love it nor hate it, but think it's stupid that people are trying to justify why a transforming robot from outer space needs to justify anything really. I read these comics for fun, not to scrutinise them.

And, as many folks here have pointed out, it makes sense given that Cybertron has recently made contact with Caminus, which does have gender. It's pretty clear these bots are Camiens, given the "reunion" cover with Nautica.
My post was a reaction to some of your past comments as well, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt moving forward.

Who’s your favorite character to draw right now?
That’s a good question. [Pause] A tie between Skids & Nautica. I always liked to draw Skids since I got to design him for issue 2.
I also have a lot of fun drawing Nautica—right now I’m working on issue 42, which has them interacting, so I’m having a lot of fun drawing my two favorites in the same panel.
On the flip side, who’s the most difficult one to work on?
Ah, that’s a good question. [A lengthy pause, some muttering] Whoever I haven’t drawn a lot of in a long time is usually the hardest one to work on. I don’t know, sometimes the hardest one can be Ultra Magnus, just to make sure the scale’s right.
Ah, that makes sense.
Other times it can be Getaway. The hardest one I’ve ever had to draw, that I never feel like I get right, is Red Alert, but he’s not on the ship in season two, so I don’t have to worry about drawing him right now.
[...]
So, um, is there anything else you’d like to talk about that we haven’t touched on already?
Hmmm … well, I’m really happy for the inclusion of more female Transformers. Since the preview for issue 41 is out showing more female Transformers, I can only be happy about that. Over the years I snuck in female Transformers in backgrounds. Megatron Origin, the Drift miniseries in the Circle of Light (a faction of Transformers). They make the world bigger; the more the merrier. Now it’s better that I don’t have to sneak them in, and I’m like, “Yes, they’re there!” I’ve been rooting for them for eight years now; we need more!
That makes me really happy to hear, coming from you. Did you design Firestar’s flame hair, as seen in the issue 41 preview?
Yes, it was me who came up with Firestar’s hair. When designing characters, I ask myself, “How can i make interesting character designs?” I look at silhouettes, heads. What’s a standard head, what’s different?
l looked at different things; when I was designing her I designed her altmode first. I put her head in the altmode’s back as the exhaust. I asked myself, “Can I get away with fire for hair?” But since it’s the exhaust for the car, it kinda works. I thought about how’d it work for portraying different emotions. If knocked out, she’d have little blue flame or it’d be snuffed out. If enraged, her hair expands and just goes nuts. It’s a great way to show emotion.
I had the altmode and head design, took it to James, and said, “James, this is the idea.” He went, “That’s really cool! I have fire for hair [to work with].” It’s really different, and it makes her stand out among other characters.
Along with the other female Transformers, I started thinking about different designs that haven’t been done before. I’ve got to post them online so other people can see her. There’s a big female Transformer I want to show off, one who doesn’t have a standard head at all, but one singular eye. It was really fun to do. It’s just really fun to try new things, to see whats out there.
Transformers is all about change; you don’t have to be stuck to the standard. The big thing with Firestar was keeping in elements of the original design. When IDW started out with Transformers, they’d take a character and do something completely different; it’s how I did her design.
