I don't read RID regularly, but I heard he got his voicebox shot out during one of the battles leading up to the last big conflict there.

Probably a (pardon the term) shout-out to the silent Soundwave in Prime. Actually, I don't mind this kind of characterization. I always thought of G1 Soundwave as being the cold emotionless Decepticon, "uncharismatic bore", and all that-- but that role seems to have been taken up by Shockwave now, so a silent, but highly empathic (emotion-sensitive) Soundwave strikes me as very interesting.

Going by the dialogue, he has that condition I heard about where you "hear" oolors and "smell" sounds and the like (can't remember the name, I wanna say "aphasia" but that doesn't sound right)...this is actually kinda interesting.

...honestly, MTMTE is the way better comic but RID is actually a pretty good read, too.
