To go with the Top Gun film coming out very soon, Hasbro is rereleasing the Transformers Crossover Maverick figure. This toy is being released exclusively at Walmart. It comes with a new box, but we have no images for that yet (just the old images).

Worlds collide in this TRANSFORMERS-Top Gun mash-up pack! The iconic Grumman F-14 Tomcat jet from the original Top Gun film is a TRANSFORMERS robot, called MAVERICK (not to be confused with that other guy)! Who makes a better wingman than a TRANSFORMERS robot? MAVERICK stands at 7 inches in robot mode and can convert from robot to classic Grumman F-14 Tomcat jet mode in 25 steps. Worth noting, if you read the project description, the re-release excludes the motorcycle, volleyball, and volleyball hands. Basically, the only good things about it

The motorcycle is still in it, just the volley ball and hands that's gone

So, it's even WORSE than before. The original is still warming a shelf at my local Yamada Denki.

Anyway, at least the jet mode can still fulfil its rightful role of hauling rubber dog-shit from Hong Kong..

So basically 3 months after the movie release, you can preorder in July for October release with less extras than the original, and not riding in with the "Thunder" of release date. Come on Hasbro big miss indeed.

And why not release the F-18 Hornet Crossover as Rooster or other pilots. Give them less, charge more, and afterthought 5 months later is not good marketing plan.

I know this will not happen, but Imagine having 4 pack of Transformable Cross Over Raptors using Dinobot Mold (Blue, Delta, Charlie, Echo). Collectors and fans of Jurassic Park would be down with it. But someone probably thought lets not put it on the shelves with the new movie release, just wait 6 months after hype is down.

It would be neat if they had Transformers Crossovers ready at release instead as after thought.

They just put one up for 2500JPY ($19.37). They say it's opened and used, but it's clearly still tied in.

I've heard that such shops usually have to state legally that it's used, as they're not selling them from (wholesale) sources. Basically "used" means "second hand" in Japan. Regardless, the price still seems cheaper than the price at my local shop and much cheaper than comparatively sized TFs at places like Madarake.

So I got this toy finally and I it's quite the underrated little bugger. I have the other crossovers and was never impressed. The toys always suffered from being retools and always felt inferior to the original use of the molds for various reasons. There would also be issues with loose pieces and joints. But here all those problems go away. The mold itself is very good, like a budget Macross, with a satisfying transformation. And all the joints are nice and tight. It does lack artculation, especially for a bot that size (no wrists, ankles or waist) and I hate the colour of the base plastic, and overall deco which looks so plain, boring and ugly, so it's not a 100% winner. But as a new transformer toy to experience, I'm very satisfied and it's easily my favourite crossover figure thus far.

So I got the reissue Maverick as part of the Pulse warehouse sale, and he surprised me. He is much more sturdy in hand than I was anticipating, and he feels much more fun too. i flipped him back and forth last night a couple times, and he is pretty fun. I'm glad I got him on sale mind you, but overall he is a surprisingly good experience. I like him.

And you can definitely see that Hooligan DNA in him, it's neat.

Yeah, he's very solid and has a great transformation. My only issue is the plastic used doesn't look good.

Thats my only issue too, I really don't like that color, and the only real breakup of it are the feet, biceps, and his head, which rocks in hand BTW
