ok someone on a different board wanted the movie animated like the 86 movie
instead of live action... it could've been done both ways
look at Looney Tunes: Back in Action and who framed roger rabbit..
both movies were live action and animated they coulda done the same with
the transformers.... think about it megatron would've been a gun

That's a funny pic, yeah, but come on.

To have drawn cartoon thrown into live action scenes is a purely comedic style that would destroy all chance of any kind of seriousness. The only times it has ever happened have been in some kind of Looney-Toons or Disney context. There may have been one or two other obscure instances, but they were all comedies.

There is no way they would have invested any kind of money into a project like that. They're trying to make TF's at least seem plausible. That's the goal of this project, whether they suceeded or not is debatable. Drawn cartoons would have made the movie automatically considered a children's comedy.

See, the two examples you gave, are both comedies.

Do you want your Transformers to be comedic? Starscream dropping an avil on Megatron's head? Soundwave pointing Megatron in gun mode at Prime who puts his finger in Megatron's barrel causing him to backfire leaving Soundwave with a blackened face?

No thanks.

Mixing the animation with live action would just look silly.

Besides, in a way, is the CGI style they're using not an animation of sorts? ;;)

And I just realised this post could be considered "bashing" OH NOES!1!!1 Though in this forum bashing = simply having a different opinion it seems.
