Japanese fans who buy the new Transformers Art Book (Complete Visual Works) next week will have the opportunity to buy a special mail-in figure: G1 Ratchet in TF Movie colors. This promotion is open only to residents of Japan.

Ordering Requirements:
To purchase this exclusive item- mail away a special coupon from inside the Transformers Art Book. You can order up to (2) Ratchets per coupon. One Ratchet will cost Y5,200 or two for Y10,000. Mail away orders must be received by January 7th, 2008. The exclusive Ratchet will be mailed out in April, but only to Japanese addresses.

This has my vote to be counted among the most entertainingly bad TFs ever released. It combines the headless, oddball G1 Ratchet mold with the color most people disliked on the movie toy. It also reads "Fire Department" on a vehicle that would never belong to one, has blue lightbars, and is an exclusive. Color me amused that this exists. I like plenty of the movie toys (including Ratchet) and plenty of G1 (including Ratchet), but this misbegotten attempt to combine the worst of both worlds serves mainly as an example of just how ridiculous our fandom can get. Hurrah!

Looks cool and have more appeal than the real G1,hope they do the others Autobots from movie.Too bad is just for japaneses.

I agree completely. But I'd probably buy one if I were able to. Weird how that works, huh?

One should note that virtually every large fire department in the country owns and operates ambulances, so I'm not surprised it says "fire department" on it. You could also consider it a vehicle for rescue apparatus such as the famous "jaws of life"...there isn't always room on the engines for them. Also, some states do use blue lightbars for EMS and S and R vehicles...it's not always blue and red or just red.

Wow. That is nothing short of awful.

Granted the color itself is no winner, from the getgo. However, it fits movie Ratchet because real rescue vehicles use that color, so I can forgive it. (I'm fine with it now, it grew on me.)

This...on the other hand, looks terrible in day-glo green. YUCK.

This is further proof that the G1 designs and the Movie designs do not mix well. Even if it's just the color issue.

still, this is fuggin ugly. looks good on a hummer but on an suv with a blue lightbar...

I've vomited better color schemes. I like exclusives, but this fails on every level. I guess it doesn't help that I've hated this mold ever since the originals were out.

i really think it is a nice toy repaint, not for the fire department of course, but it should say something like Rescue or something like that. I have see minivans in that color scheme and i believe that if you see it from the Diaclone point of view, you get a very realistic toy.
