We have some cool news to share tonight that might play a deciding role in your future Transformers purchases! Cheftron, always one of the earliest toy reviewers on YouTube, put out a video today covering the upcoming Transformers Power of the Primes Predaking! This is the first English video review we've seen, and it takes you through a close look at the upcoming figure. The new titan has been quite controversial as far has his design goes, so does this video change your mind or opinion on the figure, for better or for worse? Will you be picking him up when he releases later on this year? Please let us know down in the energon pub forums below this article!

It looks to be the same issue as with Devastator--even though the sizes are large, the transformations are what you would expect from a deluxe figure. What's the point of turning into a beast mode if the mouths and legs are not going to do anything? They just turn into animal shaped bricks.

The only way I am going to purchase this one is if I see it on clearance at Ollie's or something for $50.

Yeah, while I agree... I DO understand that Hasbro has to wrestle with a few challenges:

1. Ensuring stability with such heavy figures (ie. no ball and socket joints, etc.)
2. Passing the "drop test" at such a large size
3. Keeping price down enough that it can be affordable to a kid audience

Dealing with all of those means simplifying design AND sadly some hollow parts. I think with all the challenges they had, they've put together a really good looking figure.

Seeing the video and more recent photos, I think my hesitation is gone. Will definitely be picking up the figure. Looks like it displays really well with Devastator.

If anything can be said about it, is the combination is rather unique.

With Tantrum (I refuse to call him Torox) and Headstrong actually transforming into the complete leg, rather than just shins, and Divebombs wings actually forming part of the crotch and lower torso.

This unfortunately means the Wings are non-removable. So any 3P Chromed Set will need to account for that.

I'm sure in person he'll look quite imposing though. The thin waist was not as distracting in the video as it had been in previous pictures.

My only gripe is the lack of BF Sword. What's a Predaking without his massive sword?

I'm sure 3rd parties, or even Shapeways will take care of that though.

Agreed, I think we all need to be prepared to drop a paycheck on new sword and wings and fists. LOL.

OH SNAP! You're right. I think we are all remembering fantastic art and all of the tiny individual swords for each member.

And G1 cartoon accurate.

Only one episode ever had him use a sword in just one scene, and it was a purple lightsaber-type sword that looked nothing like the big golden broadsword we often associate with Predaking.

Yes, that's the 3P sword I want, because I don't think that's been done yet.

And I indeed wanted G1 toy accuracy way back when, so I bought the reissue! Regardless of whatever design flaws PotPredaking has, as long as it attempts to be more accurate to his media appearances than another toy that's relatively easy to acquire, I'll still seriously consider buying it. They had me at "shoulder cannons".

I wonder why Amiami's preorder(discounted 29% less) price of Y 19050 (today's fx exchange rate) is US $12.00 more than that? :???:

Bingo!!! ;)^

The Beast modes are all terrible and the Bot modes are okay at best so if they're only redeemable in one mode (combined) then they're only worth one 3rd price IMO!

A portion of the other $100.00 could go to 3P add on's that'll likely clean up Hasbro's mess...

Just a thought based on this. I remember during season 3's "From the files of Teletran 2", they did a feature on The Predacons/Predaking, and they referred to Tantrum as a "Buffalo", now immediately of course I thought of the American Buffalo (Bison), which he looks nothing like, but I guess he could pass for an African Water Buffalo (seeing as how that would match with Headstrong being a Rhino), but to me, he always looked more like a standard Bull.

Admittedly, it was because of that file that I've been calling him a "buffalo" instead of "bull" all these years.

A common design trick is to make a general shape of a group of animals, then slap an obscure or fancy name of a specific one on it for appeal. Look at BW Cheetor

Whether Torox (ne Tantrum) is a buffalo or a bull doesn't change the fact that neither is really what you would call a predatory animal.

Indeed. I figured it didn't really matter that a buffalo (or bull) and rhino were not carnivores. Instead, they looked really mean, causing any autobot standing in their path to immediately lose control of their oil and shudder in fear before getting utterly trampled. Plus, I always thought of a sky full of Tantrums when listening to Johnny Cash singing Riders in the Sky...

:-B Well technically, whether he's a water buffalo, a yak, longhorn steer, or a Holstein, he's a bull. Because all males of any bovine species are called bulls, and we know he's male because most cows don't have horns that large.

When they were originally designed, the Predacons were actually going to be the "Anibots," a team of Autobots. A rhino and a buffalo didn't seem out of place along with a lion, a puma, and a hawk, as they are all animals. However, when they were reassigned as Decepticons and their team name was changed, Hasbro didn't consider that two of the five members didn't fit the new "Predacon" monicker all that well.

I don't know, they may be pointed the wrong way, but otherwise the way the horns come together in the middle does remind me a lot more of the African water buffalo.

What a novel idea to print them on a white back ground creating a contrast that easily conveys the intended information.

I like to think the in-universe explanation for Tantrum/Torox and Headstrong's choice of animal forms was because they knew so little about Earth animals that they actually believed rhinos and buffalo were predatory species.

Thanks to a heads up from Seibertronian Hellscream9999, we have word that Titan Class Predaking, the Titan figure for Power of the Primes, is going to be offered at Target. This news is big, seeing as how Toys R Us is going, going, going, or gone for everyone except Canada, and they were one of the lone brick and mortar stores to offer the Titan Class figures. Predaking was found in the Target DCPI index, and can be found using the code 087 16 4185. The figure is shown in the Target database to be $159.99, the same price found on pretty much every pre-order for the mighty beast combiner.

So what do you think of this news? Is it a good sign that Predaking will be coming to Target? Let us know in the comments section below!

This is good news. In my area, Target seems to be the store that gets the newer waves quicker than Walmart or Kmart. It used to be TRU, but, well... you know. Any idea when the big guy can be expected to hit the shelf?

Definitely not worth that price. This thing is nowhere near as awesome as Metroplex or Trypticon & has no business being priced in the same category. It's big in combined mode, that's the only thing it has going for it.

I will definitely wait for Ollie's on this one. $50 - $60 is the right price for this unimpressive piece of shit.

I do hope that Target either gets him in adds (if not preferably in stores). I feel that part of the reason the Combiner War box sets didn't do too hot, was they were rarely stocked in Brick and Mortar... the downside to that strategy is they *do* take up a lot of space. I still couldn't believe Target put the Star wars Black 6" scale tie-fighters on the shelf...

I still think Predaking will be just as good, of not better, than Devastator. Though part of me is curious what "would have been" if Takara could go ham with their preferred release (like the extra mile they did for Devastator).
