TF08 have a new image of Breakaway in vehicle mode. This figure is part of the first wave Deluxe figures to hit the shelves approximately May 30th. For now, Breakaway is only shown in vehicle mode, but stay tuned as more pictures come to light.

has anyone noticed or have any idea as to why , well side from devastator (brawl) in the first whose mode just happened to have firing mechs as standard to his mode, why none of the bots on either side seem to use any weapons, for instance shooting , while in vehicle modes? Like for example I remember early renderings I believe, and I know one of the toys had it, but for instance barricade had duel guns that popped up out of his hood to shoot. I always thought that they would be used during the movie kind of like twisted metal esque. Anyone else have any further thoughts on this topic?

That's a very good point you raise, aside from Starscream and to a lesser extent Megatron(slamming prime though a building) and Blackout(hit n run tactics) none of the transformers used their alt mode for anything other than a means of getting from a to b faster or as disguise(which in all fairness is exactly why they have alt modes in the first place, traditionally)but my point is:THIS IS A M.BAY MOVIE,you know that guy who likes big explosions, things going smash, boom bang, sod the plotline lets just get to the action,BAY. Now if it was my choice, obviously as a TF fan I would do things my (G1) way,but it wasnt,it was M.Bay's,so in keeping with that, yes, why wasnt it more 'twisted metal',why wasnt there a propper(no offence to Bonecrusher, whom I think is WICKED!) motorway battle with cars getting trashed left, right and center and bots bouncing all over the place(ala Matrix 2,which in comparison makes TF look timid)etc. Over the years being a TF fan and a fan of action movies in general (and of creative fighting) I was pretty saddened by not only the rubbish you hear from fanboys but also as a action fan,do enjoy the film, but sorry its a kids film.

2 thoughts:

1) The alt mode is supposed to be a DISGUISE, remember? So it's OK for Brawl and Starscream to have weapons in alt mode, since they are military vehicles. But a pick up truck or a sports car that fires missiles wouldn't be much of a disguise.

2) Robots firing guns and missiles are way cooler than cars firing guns and missiles. A car that turns into a giant robot and then fires missiles from pods that pop out of its arms is ten times cooler than a car that fires missiles from it's hood.

What I was annoyed about was the lack of hand held weapons, such as hand gun lasers and riffles, instead we got weird pop out of the arm, glowing, futuristic messes!

Glad I got that of my chest... #-o

Rifles bring to mind shoulder slings when not in use, which would be cumbersome in non-combat situations and unless they were all equipped with "Robo-Cop" style hip holsters and limited to similar size/configuration pistols, (no way in hell Ironhide is gonna go for that) then there's a problem with where to lay the pistols when not in combat. Having "on-board" weaponry made for no storage or lost weapon issues and meant fewer props to have to deal with for the full size bots or portions thereof that were on-set.
I would have liked seeing the pistols too, but to be honest there was so much going on in the movie that I never really missed the pistols until around the 25th to 30th time I watched it.

handguns?? you think advanced alien robots would use a handgun......easier to incorporate weapons as a part of the body ..cant drop it

If I could add a #3 to your list...modifying the real cars to have weapons/accessories that could actually stay put during action driving sequences would have upped the already high cost of making the movie. Adding them digitally would have been asking a bit too much of the CGI team considering what they already were taking on.

Also, if you start giving the vehicle modes the ability to use all kinds of weapons, then people would start questioning the point of transforming into robots during the battles...why transform into a slower, more massive (easier target) mode when you can simultaneously move around quickly and fire the same weapons? And after all, somewhat going along what the others were saying earlier, would you prefer seeing the transformers get hit and destroyed by vehicles (that could have been replaced by just the similarly-looking earth military vehicles) or the unique cybertronian warriors from another planet?

Going back to the pic. this thread was originally intended for, did anyone else notice that the cockpit appears to open just like the original G1 seeker toys? I know that Classics Jetfire does it but I can't remember how long before him it has been since we had a jet that did. And if I remember the Toyfair pics correctly, this guy finally gives some much needed air support to the Autobots.

Compare this robot mode to Starscream and Breakaway looks like a million dollars!

So will we see this guy in the movie or this a superfluous Deluxe fig? I actually kinda like the different take on a jet bot mode...but his eyes look goofy.

ALso, is that supposed to be an F16 or an F 18? It's kinda in between both of them..

Whether it was during idea conception, manufacturing or transformation of final product I'm not sure, but somewhere along the line I'm inclined to think that alcohol consumption was a contributing factor.
Well, let's look on the bright side. It would appear that the twins have a new playmate.

He does have a sharp looking alt. mode, I'll give him that. I'm hoping that the blue and green seem so..."loud" just because of the flash and that the actual toys colors aren't really that vibrant.
No way I could take someone seriously if they had a sky blue gun pointed at me. My kids would even complain about those colors.
I'm trying to be optimistic about this toy but I really don't have much to work with here.

I think he looks adorable! It's like he started to transform and gave up after he got into gerwalk mode!

If they repaint him then i might pick him up. His current colors just dont look to good.

My God, Editor was right! Fangirls are a dangerous breed! Between the ado...the adorab..bbl...aww,hell...the "a" word and the gerwalk comment I had to go back and take a second look and the little bugger started to grow on me. I agree, he needs a new paint job.

This in no way means that I'm getting soft. I'm wearing my black shirt, black boots and black leather jacket as I sit here and type this. I'm still a hard ass and I did not (could not) break down and use the "a" word. B-)

You just be careful where your pointing that ability of yours, Firebird! That's some dangerous mojo you're playing with! :P

Fangirl??? #-o I may be many things but a fangirl isn't one of them, Sorry T-Macks! :P

I guess I should put my old Trans-Am sig back up.

(I got a black leather too by the way, Most comfortable jacket I ever bought!)

I'm sorry, I just offended at least two people at the same time. You wont believe the trouble I'm in on another site as well. I'm the one who made the mistake of conversing between multiple browser windows with a mind not capable of keeping my stuff straight.. Sorry about the mistake/slip-up. It is totally not you and you would not believe the damage control I'm going to have to do on the other site. Wish I had time to explain. I'm in deep sh** with the other person I was conversing with so I'm going to have to continue my butt kissing with you later. Again, I apologize to you and to anyone else on other threads in which I may have made weird, disjointed comments earlier this evening.

I am soooo screwed......

Don't worry buddy I ain't offended. It is a little hard to see each other over the internet after all.

Good luck at the other site. Hopefully they are as laid back as I am :D

I love this guy except for the face ! What is up with these weird ROTF robot heads ? First the Bi-Plane, then Skidz, and now this google eyed mug that ruins such a cool body...but its all good cause planes are my favorite so I will buy him anyway.

Oh by the way...Big ups to the dude who brought us the robot mode early. Adminstrator please dont ban him...instead I recommend you give him a job. His leak is way better than whoever takes all those blurry shots from a mile away in somebody's bedroom. :)

I like this guy--the paint job is ugly, for sure, but I've never been one to back down from an ugly paint job  I hope he gets repainted and given a new head mold and made a 'con. I'd buy that toy too.
