Smokescreen will cost ¥3,080 ($29 USD) and be packed with three guns, but it appears he'll benefit from some eventual custom labels from Toyhax to really finish the back of the car. Sky Lynx will retail for ¥ 14,300 ($135 USD) and include two guns and three effect parts, additional effects shown in photos are borrowed from Omega Supreme.

Not that many other characters off the top of my head I could think of that haven't been done already. Powermaster prime and overlord would've been quite cool, though I really enjoy the last versions of those we got. A downsized Fort Max and Skorponok for the comic book fans? Maybe a transforming Ark or nemesis taking the micromaster base approach...

I think a transforming Ark would be better in the Titan Class, especially because Scorponok is the last big cityformer. Yeah, they might redo Metroplex, but at the end of the day, they're still running low on Titans

Or even if not Titan class specifically, around the same price age. It's about time with the last of the Titans released for a new large "playset" type of size class.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Well, I don't have SIEGE Smokescreen, and even if that wasn't hard to get now I'd find this one a bit more appealing because of the spoiler and the air dam (the color layout). Prowl and Bluestreak I'm good with just the SIEGE version even with them being more overtly alien than Sideswipe, but ER Smokescreen has the benefit of adding Smokescreen's car-mode mods.
I think a lot of people tend to forget that the original Smokescreen toy was quite an overhaul of the Datsun mold that was used in 1984 for Prowl and Bluestreak. Like you said, it has a spoiler on the back, which Prowl and Bluestreak lacked, and a new front end with a larger "bumper" on the front to help it resemble the Electramotive Davendorf/Sharpe touring car it is based upon. The Siege Selects version is lacking those distinctions, so the Earthrise version is in many ways a better compliment to Siege Prowl and Bluestreak as it includes those alt-mode differences from G1.

Hm...adamage1 wrote:Earthrise Smokescreen looks rather cheap, particularly the complete lack of paint apps on the rear of the alt mode,

Gosh, all that red and the white striping sure isn't painted at all!

It's because that's how his animation model head was. MP Smokescreen is similarly simplistic:adamage1 wrote:the simplistic head sculpt,

They look like Datsun wheels to me, minus the visible mounting posts. Do you mean the mounting posts being visible? Sometimes that can't be helped. Or is it the lack of paint? On balance, Smokes comes with three accessories to Wheeljack's one.

There seems to be plenty of molded detail on the back and sides, and the front of his headcrest has a small raised area on it.

Speaking of price points I still think Transformers are the best value for the money. Looking at other figures at the $20 price point and they're just 6" action figures that don't do anything else. A Deluxe Transformer is nearly as well articulated as those figures and do way more. Of course I wish Transformers were cheaper, but I feel like we get a comparatively better deal for the price.

Ok, so there's a couple of bits of detail towards the back of his head, and probably the little triangle on his forehead (it's hard to tell on that one, it only stands out due to the slight break in the lighting). The line running down the side of his head is almost certainly just the seam between the two halves of his head mold. There's still a lot of smooth plastic surfaces, and it's a stark difference between the nicely detailed headsculpts from Siege.
Emerje wrote:I'm really not sure how they could have done Smokescreen's legs any differently. They already added one extra panel to the inside of the lower leg in an effort to fill in the legs, maybe the could have added one to the inside of the feet as well, but it wouldn't have filled the whole thing since the foot still needs to be able to tilt and the legs still have to transform causing the backs to be open. I'm fine wit that on a $20 figure, this isn't a price point that I expect a lot of small parts and extra panels on. I do on Voyager and so far so good. Grapple covers the back of the cab in both modes and Starscream has extra side panels that partially hide the torso gaps in bot mode.

Very well put. As much as the hollowness stinks, this is a case where I don't think it was avoidable, given budgets and how he transforms. And I agree that Transformers are a better value than other $20 action figures, we're essentially getting two toys for that price.

I'm not talking about the line running down the side of his head, I'm talking about the horizontal bar that starts at that line and runs around to the back. Look above where the mold seam zags toward the front of his head.Tuned Agent wrote:Ok, so there's a couple of bits of detail towards the back of his head, and probably the little triangle on his forehead (it's hard to tell on that one, it only stands out due to the slight break in the lighting). The raised shape on his forehead crest actually looks to be a rectangle. It's definitely there - zooming in confirms.
And don't forget that there's more to the back of his head than we can see, the lower half of it is obstructed in the photo.

I must say I am having a rather good time messing around with Cliffjumper's guns. The tripod/ski feet look like gun clips, and if you stick it all on his right arm, it makes a good Megatron impression. Also, today is the day I realized that on quite a few Siege effects pieces, there is a 5mm part outside the 3mm hole. Not all of the effects have the protrusion, but those that do fit in barrels or hands just fine.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on March 14th, 2020 @ 12:09am CDT
And indeed, that's quite by design. Otherwise the pieces wouldn't work with larger guns like Ultra Magnus' rifle or Megatron's fusion cannon. Or with folks' missile launchers

Hopefully they'll at least make Blaster's chest retro-compatible.
Posted by Sentinel_Primal on March 14th, 2020 @ 9:46am CDT
Or, would they do something similar to Shockwave and make him a leader class? The voyager could be standard Soundwave with his cassette player alt mode, with the extra armor giving him a "Box Van that Happens to Also have a Giant Cassette Dispensor" mode. I mean, it's so unlikely, I think I'd see a unicorn win the lottery before it happened, but it'd be interesting to see

Plus, I'd be interested in seeing how they handle it. No doubt he'd turn into a music device, but would they do a stereo again, or go with his usual alt mode?

I thought he could fit one, but Soundblaster could fit two? I didn't ever try it, so somebody can confirm that.

A cassette fits but if you don't put one in EXACTLY the right way you will have one hell of a time getting the door back open without breaking it. The cassettes are ridiculously snug in the chest compartment, the only one that opens correctly is Laserbeak. Ravage, Rumble, and, RatBat all cause the door to catch when pressing the release button.sol magnus wrote:Sentinel_Primal wrote:Siege Soundwave is a good figure, only major complaint I have was the chest door being too small for the Siege Cassettes. SIEGE Soundwave can fit the cassettes from SIEGE from what I've seen, it's just a tight fit.Sentinel_Primal wrote:Siege Soundwave is a good figure, only major complaint I have was the chest door being too small for the Siege Cassettes. And when I talk about making him retro-compatible, I mean having a door able to hold vintage and SIEGE cassettes. Tall and wide enough for the vintage ones, deep enough for the SIEGE ones. Could be workable if they sacrificed the engines.

Even if the horizontal bar is separate from the bits towards the back, that's still not much, especially compared to the other headsculpts from ER and Siege. Compare his headsculpt to Cliffjumper's, there's quite a difference. And I just checked the CG renders, turns out the detail on his forehead is a triangle (I just guessed that based on the MP). Hopefully it stands out better in-hand than it does in these Takara images.

Technically, yes, but it's super tight. Soundwave's actually easier to use for that gimmick because only one fots, whereas Soundblaster's too tight for them to be easy to remove

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Well, just bear in mind that there's potentially more detail on the back and sides than the photos allow us to see. The front half of the head lacks detail, which is kinda annoying, but it's also cartoon accurate (so if it bugs you add it to your list of reasons to yell at Floro Dery) and that faceplate makes hims stand out more from the others.
Agreed. And at the end of the day, it's a minor grievance, as the rest of the figure is pretty well detailed.
I've been thinking about potential accessories for the inevitable Prowl retool, and since he will likely come with a lightbar he probably won't come with the shoulder cannons. But what about a third accessory? Something I think would be really cool is a removeable bullbar for his alt mode. It could be left on in robot mode to distinguish all three of the Datsun bros, or it could be removed and used as a little shield or something.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on March 14th, 2020 @ 1:05pm CDT
Well, that'd be another advantage to a Soundwave that was also compatible with the vintage cassettes. The added height and slight added width would mean he had plenty of room for the SIEGE cassettes.Sentinel_Primal wrote:sol magnus wrote:I thought he could fit one, but Soundblaster could fit two? What I GOT was Astrotrain, and now their web listing says "Styles may Vary" which I am SURE it dod not say before hand. Which says to me that they screwed up enough to have to cover their own skidplates. So tomorrow its off to return Astrotrain (great figure... But I already have one) and go back to wishing I had an Optimus Prime.

I got used to them pretty quick from looking at the initial Comic-Con pics multiple times. That plus them actually kinda having a fiction basis with the Studio OX character model, as well as being significantly less noticeable/disruptive than Siege Prime's backpack.
On top of that, when I got the figure in hand, I discovered the bumper/front wheels piece is purposefully designed to pop off easily to further perfect his silhouette.

Funny, I actially prefer Siege Prime's jetpack backpack. Its not that they are butt cheeks that bothers me, but I dont like the orientation of it for some reason asthetically on Earthrise. Siege has more 5mm Peg holes and the extra kibble is at least usable as something

Jokes aside, dairy is not an important part of a good and balanced diet, at all. It never was. You do need calclium, that's important, but you can just as easily get it from kale or canned salmon.
