That said, I think the price I've heard listed would have to come down. Ouch.

Which Grimlock?

The dream is to get all those figures that were never released in northamerica like Overlord, Thunderclash and Liokaiser. It would be like when japan finally got Skylynx for the first time through the encore. Those G1 molds are probably gone though.

4 of the Mini-Bots (Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Windcharger and Brawn) have been released as keychains back in 2000.
Also, which molds get reissued depends on popularity and availability. We'd die for a Sunstreaker, Mirage and Wheeljack reissue for instance, but those along with a couple others either are lost or have deteriorated to the point they can't be used.

Also, that explains why wheeljack is more expensive than other g1 toys (of comparable condition) on e-bay.

I never got the G1 Inspections during any of their previous releases, I think it'll be nice to pick them up this time around.

Wait for a price drop though, because at that price (between 60-75$), you can get the vintage ones. Anything below 50$ is fine though, althought he original rerelease was only 35$.

Am I missing something here? I hadn't seen any news of a platinum insecticon release before now and certainly haven't heard of a platinum trypticon release?! I've never owned trypticon so would love a platinum release!

MGrotusque wrote:I wonder if this gigantic rip-off of a release even has any die cast in the figures. This "Platinum" release for that price should have come with the G1 AND the new Legends releases. Or even included the Deluxe Insecticons as well. 9 figures in that box (lord knows it's big enough) would have justified the price.

You willnever ever get a rerelease of the deluxe insecticons since like G1 Jetfire, Bandai owns all the rights to those toys.

Trypticon is the only rumour that has yet to be confirmed. His huge size and the initial unlikelihood of his reissue tells me that it is very possible he will just remain a rumour, especially since all the others have since been confirmed and were all present at the same Nuremberg toy show.

It's curious how something like that gets lumped in with a bunch of other rumored toys that already have been revealed.
I could see Trypticon not passing drop tests in the states, because I know he failed mine after being knocked off the top of my bookcase by a damned cat.

I agree. He was also in the same rumour about devastator being 6 big bots, so that makes him even more the odd rumour out.
However, at the same time, it can be just misinterpretation. There were also rumours of a new MP Tank Megatron and an MP Blitzwinh but that was confused for the Blitzwing Reissue and the upcoming Leader Megatron. However, I have no clue what kind of misinterpretation would result insomeone thinking Trypriton gets a reissue.
I am still holding out hope for him.

With the new accessories, also hoping for a show accurate head for Perceptor. Not holding my breath, though. heh.

If the price goes down, I can get a price match... what's so confusing?

Stores actually do that? TRUS never does that in my neck of the woods.

Just present the receipt and if a sale come around 1 week after you bought the thing full price, the store will refund you the difference. It does not work the other way around, and it wont work for food. At least, it's how it work in Canada.

TRU should - it's their store policy.

All they have to do is return and the repurchase the item with the coupon or sale price you are presenting to them.
I do it all the time at TRU, (T), and WM whenever a coupon shows up late, i get a random gift card and or a price drop happens.
The price drop adjustment can also happen on Amazon; I got one of the Protectobots sets super cheap with a retro credit after an email.

Many retail stores in the US have some period of time where, if an item goes on sale for a better price after you bought it, you can get an adjustment. Some retailers allow this to stretch to other retailers' sales as well and give posthumous price matching within a certain time period. Reason: before these policies existed, people would just return things (potentially used things) within the return period and then just go re-buy it. This ultimately costs more to the retailer than just making the adjustment, which then also makes the customer happy.

That's right - and TRU and Target (and I believe Kmart as well) have return windows of 90 days, so it really gives you flexibility when it comes to their price match policy.
Also, on the question of exclusivity, I'm pretty sure the Insecticons will be at Kmart only.

I'm pretty sure they wont be. The fact that a few other sites have them means that its automatically not exclusive. Also, in the Philipines where they were first discovered, they were found right next to YOTG Optimus Prime who I can bet you 50$ is not a KMART exclusive.
Also, they have french on the box and there are no KMARTS in Quebec, where the french would ber equired. Thus, spending significant extra cost for having french means that these are meant for distribution elsehwere than KMART.
However, if you are wondering if this is the only place in the US where you can find the insecticons in stores, then .... maybe. But this by no means is the equivalent to them being exclusive in general.

True, US exclusivity =/= world exclusivity. I was (errantly) referring to the US when I said that.
It was the same thing here with the AoE Platinum voyager 2-pk.

He gives a breakdown of the exclusivity (at australian retail) for the platinum releases:
Myer: Seeker pack and YOTG pair
ToysRUs: Insecticon pack, Perceptor/Blaster, Trypticon, and Dinobots.
While this last news may be fun, it should be noted that this could be a reissue of the G1 deco AOE Dinobots that were released at Comiccon, similarly to how the FOC Bruticus issued at Comiccon was eventually released as a platinum set.
Full list of rumours from the show can be found here.

That's why Ryan advised I insert the possibility about it being SDCC dinobots instead. From what we know and what we have seen in the past, it makes far more sense that its the G1 deco SDCC set (something they've been doing for a few years in a row now) instead of a set of molds which have been said to be lost.
But to be fair, it was also said that BW Terrasaur was lost and he resurfaced last year.

Also, I am wondering how essential it is to have the molds. The original molds that still exist are probably really beat up and would need some restoring. Wouldnt it be simpler for Hasbro to reverse engineer the molds based on the toys they still have (I am certain they have file copies of these toys)? The engineering and design phase are still unecessary, there would just be the added cost of redoing a mold but I doubt it would be more costly than restoring what they have (since the restoration would also need "consulting" from an original toy).

You would think that putting each piece in a 3d scanner would do the job but Im no expert. But if they dont own the rights to the mold in the first place then there could be legal issues in making what is basically a copy/ko. Again, no expert.

Well, I can at least confirm that their partnering company Takara owns the molds. And, the recent insecticons were released under Hasbro which means they retain their right to distribut those molds under them. And thus that confirms that whichever mold takara may still have, hasbro has every right to use them as their own.
