Director Michael Bay is known for his visual flare, his directing style and his mastery of blockbuster film techniques. He's also known for trying new things behind the scenes and this time is no different.

The man who used ILM's computers until one had a "melt down", made us feel like we were there in Imax 3D, and handled daily work on an iPad, is now using what's becoming the next film making innovation: A high definition camera that fits in the palm of your hand.

The Hollywood Reporter has published an article that talks about this little technological marvel and the films it's helped create. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/behind ... aps-561633

The Novo and the Novo 2K, created by a company known as Radiant Images, are state of the art cameras in a very small form factor, capable of superior high definition, the likes of which we've become accustomed to in the Transformers film franchise.

We've mirrored only a few of images from the gallery on the Radiant Images website, but to see the full gallery, you can click the following link: http://www.radiantimages.com/index.php/ ... o/712-novo

Will this new camera allow for more up close and personal extreme action scenes? Only time will tell, and the soonest we'll find out is June 27th. 2014 when the film is released.

Until then, feel free to join the discussion and give us your thoughts.

Ok, as long as he doesn't use it for every shot, sure, go for it. Pit, if it's good, use it on every shot, I just really want one. I absolutely love the giant lens on it.
How much is this? $295 a day? Expensive for me, but not really sure if it is camera-wise normally.

Yep, $295.00 a day, $895.00 a week. Rentals only, cannot be owned.

Now I'm beginning to understand why Bay says red doesn't capture well on film. So what if Optimus is blue! We get to use tiny cameras! 8-}

Seriously, as you shrink technology down, you also have to accept certain compromises in quality. I don't know what's being compromised exactly, but something is always compromised in these exchanges. #-o

Yeah, but there's no film in a camera that small is there? So what's his next excuse to be?

I give him props on the equipment innovation and usage, and this new camera looks like a lot of fun, but PLEASE do something about your editing Mr. Bay, Pain and Gain looked like shit and had no rhythm. I hope he's not trying out some new style or something. I didn't remember DoTM being like that.

There are still cameras that shoot on film, and Bay has expressed that he likes to use both techniques.

This is pretty awesome, I wanna see how the footage looks!

If a high tech, high definition digital camera small enough to get previously impossible angles and shots at cinema quality is comparable to an iPhone 5 in your mind then you don't know much about photography, film making, or directing. That or you're downplaying Bay's skill and willingness to use new technology in a sad attempt to make him look bad.

Bay does a good enough job of making himself look bad. It was more of a comment on the absurd nature of what kind of camera he uses making news.

Sure he looks bad to people still crying into their G1 Optimus hug pillows about how their childhood is still sore from not getting a movie that was 100% accurate compared to their nostalgia blind views of what amounts to a plotless 30 minute toy commercial. Or maybe he looks bad to pretentious, self righteous, uneducated armchair critics who love the smell of their own farts that have a stick so far up their tailpipes that they classify as disabled since they can't sit down anymore.

On the nature of how it's "absurd" news I beg to differ. Some people might want to know about the kind of technology that goes into making the films. You know, the ones that post here for more reasons than to cry about it. ;)

What are you his mother or something?

I like the movies and toys for what they are and what they have done for the franchise however I will admit freely that it's not my favourite aspect of the brand. That has always been and always will be G1 and sense there isn't anything the movies can do to make G1 look bad or ruin it, it's all good.

It's a well known fact that the G1 cartoons were 30 minute commercials for the toys but the same can be said about the movies being 2+ hour commercial for the toys. The plots for movie 1 and DOTM were decent but ROTF was so full of holes it was embarrassing.

Nah just a person who views the world in a realistic light and enjoys popping fanboy bubbles whenever I see them. Such easy targets, really.

And I agree. Back on topic.
