I wouldn't mind a G1 colour G1 Megatron either if done tastefully by Takara.
I'm also not against the idea of G2 version of characters who never got them - say like a different colour for Perceptor or Blaster for example.
I'm sure some wouldn't mind some of the other reissues in G2 coloured either. Also why not make a G2 Soundwave and have him be Red like one of the the Korean toys was. Perhaps Blaster could be Silver or even Green and Perceptor blue. I like the idea of a medium or dark Blue Perceptor - that would look rather nice.
Not to mention G2 Omega Supreme or Sky Lynx would be fun too - heck if you want to get really crazy how about a G2 Fort Max or G2 Metroplex in gold.

It will probably be found in the US. Every single platinum from last year was eventually available at a US retailer online. However, I can guarantee that it wont be obvious to know when and who will carry this in advance. So keep an eye out on this thread and we will make sure to report when it is available at a US retailer.
Also, to all those who want the Platinum Dinobots, I believe they are an online retailer exclusive since both BBTS and TFFource have the set at the retail price of 150$, which makes sense since the price at Canadian trus was 200$ cdn.

I shudder to imagine the price I will have to pay for this though.

With shipping that's just over $200 AUD. Does anyone have even a rough idea how much this will go for in Australia based on previous Platinum Sets?

Sad that we consider that a good price because that should be an awesome price two years from now on the aftermarket.

)
Don't get me wrong, Running with Scissors was the first album I ever got as a child, I love them both.
But I won't pay $100+ for a set of barely altered repaints; I passed on hot rod because his thigh articulation is horrid, and as much as I want to like the wreck-gar mold, I won't pay this kind of money if the breakage issue hasn't been fixed (and as of tfss Tarantualas, it hasn't), so yeah, junk - unintentional pun unintended

I mean good as in better than US$120, not good as in a price worth paying. I'd only pay US$50 new (the cost of three Deluxes).

Well, relatively speaking I suppose you're correct, and I was giving them the benefit of being 'platinum' when saying I'd pay $20 each for them, but I really wouldn't, even if they were priced at that level.

The cover is a re-enactment of the final battle between Optimus and Megatron in the 1986 Transformers film and the special stamp on the cover marks this as part of the commemoration of that film. This posits that both the Megatron and Optimus toys are supposed to reference this scene and those G1 decos, at least for their robot modes.

If they do this instead of a G1 twin pack I will personally go to Hasbro HQ and insert figures into various orifices.

happy! HAPPY!! it's a bloody abomination! & doesn't accurately demonstrate what the boxart is trying to represent............namely G1.
& YES i know coz of toy gun laws...that it has to look that way
but COME ON!!! you'd've thought that they would've allowed a G1 Megs at least for this set! since it's what the boxart is trying to tell you(since it's taken from the original animated movie).

G1 Megatron is legally considered a fire arm replica and thus can't be released as is. In fact, Hasbro toyed with the thought of reissuing, for the US market, in purple and orange back in the day. Guess what: didn't fly.

to be fair, this is about the robot modes, and this megatron honours the G1 deco in robot mode more than the original version of the mold did.

Prime is levitating in the box to give the impression that he is the same size as Megatron, who is smushed down in the box and standing spread legged. All to fool kids into thinking that these two are evenly matched.
A Prime closer to his G1 self and a grey tank Megatron both in G1size would have been perfect

Pretty sure kids wouldnt be buying this.
Plus, if you want some G1 themed fun, you can just get last year's tank megatron and pair him with the upcoming gen PMOP

ah right...well....it would've been nice to have had a G1 Megs....which btw is weird? coz the small Megs from the Classics line(forms a pistol with an orange tip) i think you can still get online or somewhere? same with MP G1's & maybe any 3rd party ones too!
+ correct me if i'm wrong....isn't the Nerfatron all plastic? no metal? which is strange coz most(maybe not all.....like Trypticon) of these Platinum Edition figures have some metal on them! Blaster has metal pins/joints in his arms, his cassettes have metal parts on them, Perceptor has some metal on him, the Insecticons have metal on them too.

This. Never thought about it, but it gives us Leader-class battles for the faction commanders! Good job Will!

Its not related, platinum is not about them containing metal. Its just reissues. If the original toys had metal then the reissued toys will also have metal. If a toy only had plastic, the platinum reissue will also only have plastic. Thats all.

That's because they're original G1 toys from 1984-1985, which by nature have die cast metal as part of their original construction. Anything beyond 1986 is all plastic.

Dude what the heck does that even mean?
It's box art man it's not supposed to be accurate it's supposed to look cool like you know every other box art every other toy in the world does I mean look at this bionicle for example does he look like you can actually have him surf on lava or is it something to look cool?

And what the heck is G1 size So now G1 is also defined on what size they are you serious?
This Megatron is closer to the original gun Megatron then a tank is but your saying that in order to be as close to the G1 gun Megatron as we can we should use the tank Megatron instead of another gun Megatron genius I say!
Posted by Carnivius_Prime on January 31st, 2016 @ 2:26pm CST
Easy pass for me. Still got original classics Prime for sentimental reasons and if I want G1 Prime vs G1 Megatron I'll get the recent Leader Megatron and the upcoming Leader Powermaster Prime. Bit big for my collection but far superior. Besides I always hated Megatron as a gun (especially modelled after one that shoots foam darts) and prefer him as a tank. It just makes more sense.

That's an interesting question. One would assume so considering Hasbro keeps setting the same MSRP, but then again it seems like these sets hit clearance or other sales fairly frequently. I'd be curious as to what some of the more savvy money crunchers have to say.YoungPrime wrote:Q:Are the masses actually paying those ridiculous prices for these Platinum sets?
