A "Review" Of Shia LaBeouf

Postby Autobot032 » Sun Apr 22, 2007 12:09 am

Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
And it's not exactly what you'd call a positive one at that.

After seeing the type of person he really is, I lost all respect for him, but the more and more I read...I'm just growing disgusted with him.

Now before you read this article (and the one or two contained within) I do realize he's been bustin' his balls to get where is he right now. I also realize it's not an easy world to be in, when you're involved with Hollywood.

However, his overall attitude, his demeanor...screams prick.

And without further ado:

Shia LaBeouf
Told you: We are not ones to gloat, but we did report on March 7 that Shia LaBeouf will be in the new Indiana Jones film. Some of you gave us static because the new It Boy made a number of statements that he knew nothing about being in the movie right up until the deal was announced. These Hollywood types, they learn to prevaricate young.

Shia is hotter than ever now that Disturbia opened well, and he may be all that Steven Spielberg thinks—but he should keep an eye on his image. Obviously, he didn't have a choice if George Lucas and/or Spielberg inexplicably made him go out there and deny that he had the Indiana Jones role sewn up, but he might have been a tad less vehement: Once the news was announced, an editor at a Hollywood Web site sent us an e-mail with a subject line that read: "He's a liar!"

In a recent interview with the Austin-American Statesman, LaBeouf not only denied knowing whether an Indiana Jones project existed but then, as he expressed an interest in playing Holden Caulfield some day, argued energetically that J.D. Salinger is dead. "Clearly the young actor relies too much on Wikipedia," the reporter observed tartly.

We can't expect a 20-year-old who grew up inside the child-mauling Hollywood machine to know that much—but again, a little less certitude might have been in order.

Another journalist from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram described LaBeouf as unsmiling, "intense," and "ready to bite your head off." Whew—don't mess with Texas.

If the folks at DreamWorks see him in the Tom Hanks or Jimmy Stewart tradition, as they do, projecting a nice-guy image might be important. No one needs a hostile press these days, when the level of scrutiny far exceeds what Stewart or even Hanks had to withstand as young men. Sure, all those snarky reporters can drive you potty. But act, Shia, act!

LaBeouf has segued from Bobby to Disturbia to Transformers without a break, so perhaps it's understandable that he's cranky. But clearly Spielberg can't be too thrilled when LaBeouf says he doesn't care about the box office for the $200-million-plus Transformers because he's doing it "for the exposure."

On a related note, we hear that Spielberg and director Michael Bay are having what our parents used to call "discussions" about the amount of big noise in Transformers. So, while we're dispensing free and unsolicited advice, we urge Bay to listen to Spielberg. As for LaBeouf, more will be revealed. A veteran who's worked with the young man says he's talented, yes, but the movie-star quotient is not yet quantified. "Whether he's Tom Hanks remains to be seen," he says. "He might end up being John Cusack." (link)

I don't mean to get off the point here, but I noticed you're from Ravenna. That's not too far from where I am, I'm just over the border in PA. A lot of (relatively) close Ohioans on this board.

He's a good actor. he can be funny or dramatic, and those things matter.

So what if he's an asshole? A lot of people are assholes. It has no effect on talent.

Give me a break.

It's fashionable to hate him in the TF community because we're disappointed with the new movie.

I like him. He has a funny screen presence in I Robot, and he looks like Spike. So as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with him. Now if only Indy 4 would have 3 generations of Jones, including Sean Connery. All three of them would work.

I bet you green money you wouldn't care so much about his additude if the new movie had more G1-related robot designs.

Yes, I'm bringing the two together.

Considering what he said about his 8 year old prescription for his glasses i'd just put it down to bad eyesight.

But really he was just referring to DZ "bringing the two together".

Blaming his eyesight sounds more fun though. Probably caused from too much eye rolling while moderating the movie forum. :P

Oh..I don't even go near the movie forum.

I have to short of a fuse to deal with the posters who do nothing but post "OMFG!!!!!!eleven!!!11 I HATE Bay and his stupid Bayformers!!!"

It got old really fast lol

But I agree with DZ, he is only getting static here because of his involvement with Transformers.

I personally am a fan of what I have seen from the movie and am a fan of Shia.

So, oh well.

Actually, I love the movie designs. I can't wait for the movie, or the toys. I could care less whether or not he's in the film, I just don't like him as a person. That, however, will not deter my support of the movie.

I'm only familiar with his "I, Robot" appearance, so I can't comment on his talent just yet.

I honestly think that what's he's going through is normal for a kid his age. He's got alot of responsibility, and he's being hyped up so much that I'm sure he'll be somewhat defensive. When you're in that position, you begin to wonder if you can live up to the hype, or if you're going to crash and burn.

The guy just can't win. I don't see the big deal about him not caring how much the TF movie makes. If he's doing it for exposure...where's the problem? Lots of actors have done exactly the same thing, and were just as vocal about it. If he said that he cared about how much the TF Movie rakes in, we'd be reading articles about how he only cares about money. Just..can't..win...

It's the media who need to step off of their high horses and stop interpreting a person's entire character over an instance of annoyance on the star's part, or a single sentence taken out-of-context.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

it's obvious that the reason he's getting attention on this particular forum is because of his involvement in the tf film, that much goes without saying. but i can't really agree that people here only dislike him because they dislike what they've seen of the movie. granted, there are probably a few who fit into that category, but don't underestimate the number of people who genuinely dislike him. when i first saw one of his movies, his role in the tf movie hadn't yet been announced or even mentioned as a possibility, and he still pissed me off. i can't even define what it is about him, but every time i see him in a movie i just want to strangle him. the only way the tf movie has in any way negatively affected my opinion of him is by virtue of the fact that he lies in interviews to try to make the movie sound more intense.

He exaggerates on the fly and swears too much. He has kind of a laid back, yet insistant mannerism. He's always walking the line of vulgar.

So another reason I'm swooping in for his defense is that in person I act just like him. :-P
