Claiming Fox News has real journalists is like claiming Twilight has real vampires, it's just illogical.

My first dog died in my first year of university, so I never actually saw her as I had moved to the UK from Italy.
Her sister died last month, after a painful couple of months where we couldn't figure out what was wrong with her; she was having chronic epileptic fits, and eventually turned out to be a brain tumor. She survived the operation, but not the anaesthetic.
So I've lost them both from a distance, and wasn't able to spend as much time as I wanted with either of them in the past four years.

I'm sorry, and my best wishes.
The first dog I remember owning died of a really nasty, bloody desease. We had to put her down. she was just a puppy, the poor thing. He lived a happy life with people who took good care of him, though, right? So he must have passed peacefully.

We had 2 cats, one ours (Shadowbolt),one an adopted stray (Hoover) who was cripple (Busted leg, busted fang, destroyed eye, don't know how). Both were poisoned last summer (together with a bunch of other animals in the neighborhood including chickens) and we buried them only to discover they each had 2 (Pirate, Heidi, Angel & Ninja) kittens from 2 stray mates that we left water out for.
Later, both the mums (Missy & Leia) were poisoned as well, and at the start of this year 2 of the 4 Kittens (Heidi on New Years Eve & Ninja on Jan 7th) also.
Now, Angel has 3 Kittens of her own, which we are trying to protect with a vengeance. Pirate, no known kids yet, is recovering from almost losing an eye in a fight.
Your dog looks very robust and content in the photo. I understand completely where you call him your Son. I hope you know how lucky and blessed he was to be raised with love by a family rather than in the streets with a pack.
My Wife didn't want another Cat after we lost Shadowbolt, who was hers. We inherited his and Hoovers families (but did wish for it as well). I encourage you to get another Dog. It's not a betrayel. You'll be twice as strong at giving him the best life you can.

If you don't think you can handle another pet in the full sense of the term, why not consider fostering, or looking after strays from kennels/dog pounds?
They need love too, and you already have the experience of caring after an animal.
That's what we're doing with my family, at least.
