Aerial Team Appendage Set - Yay or Nay to it?

I'm really on the fence on this upgrade. It looks so sweet and I went out and friggin' bought a ROTF Superion for it (even though I'm not a fan of the set) but now I'm mixed up.

I don't want to by an upgrade kit that costs 15 dollars more than what I paid for the daggon figures, and I'm also thinking I should get two since it looks like it will fit on Bruticus Maximus, who I DO want to get. So I'm really torn and can use some guidance.

To those that have it, is it worth it? All opinions are welcome.

I just got mine from BBTS and I say pass. Nothing is really wrong on the set itself, it just doesn't get the job done. Superion just can't be saved from his weak torso structure. The feet are awesome but the planes tailfins touch so he can only stand legs akimbo. Ultimately, save the money for their G3 Trailer.

It is nice product from FP. However, the price of it really make me think really worth it or other wise. Just a few tiny plastics cost about the same or more than the toy (here in Asia).
If u have Superion, maybe can consider. The best is forget both!

I got the set yesterday and I love it. I originally got the set just for the combined mode, but it does so much more. The foot pieces and gun that attach to Silverbolt really add stability and weight to his alt mode. The shin armor looks great on the two triangle jets in bot and alt mode and it gives them added firepower in both modes. The AWAC dish looks a little out of place on the A-10 in alt mode, but it works. Again both A-10's get added firpower. The combined mode is greatly improved as well. Yes the A-10's do touch one another as legs and Superion has to have a wide stance, but still looks great in my opinion. Plus you get the G1 style gun and visor for Superion. If you can afford it I highly recommend the purchase. I wish they would do the same for the other two E-combiners.

I have a RotF Superion on the way so I'm probably getting the the Aerial Team Appendage Set. As El Duque said, the parts are also used for the alt modes, which is something I really love. To be honest, if the appendage kit was just for Superion and the parts were just going to be junk to set aside when the Aerial Team is in robot or alt modes, I wouldn't buy the kit. However, the fact that the parts are utilized for separate robot modes, alt modes, and combined mode seals the deal for me. It's this kind of design detail that puts FP over other 3rd party producers.

Personally, I highly recommend it. It turned it into whole new figure and made me change my shelves up so he could be displayed better. Just my opinion though.

Ditto. Until I received the Appendage set my Aerialbots weren't even on display, now they have their own shelf space.

If you hesitate now, you'll regret it forever. Remember what happened to the CJ upgrade set? People were complaining that it cost more than the figure itself, well, it's long gone now or being sold at ebay at severely inflated prices.

As for the Superion mold itself, the upgrade kit is the only saving grace.

It is very expensive for what it is, although I guess it took a while to figure the kit out and design. It does improve Superion vastly though.

I have it and I am still on the fence about it. Its neat but costly and technically shouldnt be needed at all if only Hasbro hadnt done such a half baked job in the first place.

Its nice to have a version of something that few other will have.

If you have the cash spare go for it, I doubt you will regret it but you may look at it and think about what else you could have spent the cash on from time to time.

Yea dude, go for it.

If Classics and Superion mean anything to you, go for it.

You can't compare the price of a mass produced toy set, sold as an exclusive to a limited production, fan funded set.

The kit does create a big improvement to Superion. The limbs and feet are really nice. The overall scheme of the design gives Superion the exaggerated 'tall' look his original figure had.

Even my wife commented on the large difference the parts make and she's not attached to G1 in anyway. (she's a Cybertron fan)

Edit: Wow, sold out at BBTS already?

I got mine just today. I gotta say it was worth it. Superion's vison is not the same shade of blue as "Silverbolt", but it's not noticable since the same blue is everywhere ont he FP set.

Those stupid "finger guns" always fell off and looked really bad. The hands are so much better. He loses some shoulder srticulation, but the whole figure looks so much better.

And there is a difference between the visors. The color of silver on the "nose". Not much, but there it is.

If it were cheaper I might say "Yay", but it's so expensive for what you're getting, I'd rather use that money to buy a few new TFs or something else.

It ultimately comes down to the point of view of the potential purchaser of the add on. If you think it makes Superion greater looking, I think it's worth it. Like CP said it's not a mass produced product, it's fan funded, and it's produced for a limited run. Taking that into consideration, the price isn't exorbitant.

For me, the next couple of subjective qualities definitely make the add on worth the price. Maybe even moreso.

First of all, I think the appendage set takes Superion to the next level. The addition of "proper" feet and hands, an "Electrostatic Discharger Rifle"/"Stress Fracture Cannon", and a visor piece makes Superion Maximus/Universe/Rotf Superion into a figure I appreciate even more as a fan of G1 Superion.

Secondly, I love how the appendage set parts are designed to be more than an enhancement for combined mode. I love the way that the parts can be reconfigured for use in the Aerialbots' robot AND alt modes like the FAST Packs in Macross. I mean, honestly, I think many people would have still loved to have the appendage set strictly for the combined mode of Superion and would have payed for it. But with the appendage set, we get some value added design. If I want to mix things up and separate the Aerialbots, I don't have to put away the appendage set parts because I don't want to have obtrusive combiner kibble hanging off the robot/vehicle. Maybe this isn't so impressive to some people but compare this thoughtful design that melds well with the figures to the usual combiner kibble design by the actual manufacterers of Transformers.

If I look at all the features of the add on set and the exceptional design, fan produced or not, it definitely justifies the $45 I paid.

Well jeez. Zodconvoy gave me a nugget to consider but the rest of you give solid arguments to boot.

So I guess I need to get two then. I'm sure this set could fit on Bruticus Maximus as it fits on Nexus just fine.

No no no...

The pictures of the set on Nexus were because the guy used two Skyfalls and two Breakaways.

The set will NOT work on Bruticus.

If you're in doubt take a week off from thinking about it. And then look at the pictures of the figure next to your Superion. If the improvement is tot he tune of the price of the kit, then buy it. But this is something to snap up quickly. These runs do not last long and will only go up ... way up.

Personally, I don't think it'd be worth it if the price was much higher. So, for me, this set was a rush buy.

Edit: Preau (sp?) on Youtube has a superior arm configuration that retains the shoulder aticulation and also gived the elbow more strength. My Superion is now holding the energon Saber. It still takes a bit of work to get the pose right, and an invisible rubber band to make it work, but it's doable for those of you who, like me, enjoy the idea of an airplane combiner holding a weapon composed of airplanes.

An unnecessary expense. Even without a new paint job and the ball joints I've added he's a decent figure:

When I first saw the Aerial Team Appendage Set, my first thought was that I could have Superion dual wield the Star Saber and Dark Saber I currently rotate through my TFs that can wield them. I got a good laugh out of the thought of airplanes wielding airplanes. I'd like to get an Energon Saber, it looks pretty cool with the gold plastic. I wish I could get a hold of a Blizzard Saber, as I think it's the best looking saber, but I can't imagine how much it would cost on the aftermarket. I was thinking of looking for a Skyboom Shield minicon set too.

Hehe, saying it's an unnecessary expense because Superion is a decent figure but showing your cool custom job at the same time sends mixed signals!

Superion is a decent figure but if someone wants something beyond decent, the appendage set is a good option for those who don't have the necessary skills for customization. The way I look at the cost is that I can make that amount of money in a couple of hours at work. If I consider the amount of time it would take for me to fashion an equivalent custom set, which would be weeks(and only combiner parts, not transformable combiner parts), the appendage set's price doesn't look so bad.

If the set didn't have the ability to be more than just combiner parts, I would recommend it only to the hardcore G1 Superion fans. I'm a G1 Superion fan but I think I wouldn't have bought the set if it didn't do as much as it does.

I'm none too good at customising either. And I had the AA set already on the way.

When I first saw the Aerial Team Appendage Set, my first thought was that I could have Superion dual wield the Star Saber and Dark Saber I currently rotate through my TFs that can wield them.

This dream is possible. lol. Just save a few invisible elastics from the next time you buy a TF. Then wrap them around the bottom part of the sword and the hand. It's not really noticable unless you're looking for it.

But there's a limit on the poses you can do. Not only are Superion's hands not made to hold standard pegs, but the new "elbow" isn't made to support the weight. That's why you gotta configure the planes like Preau has them; the weight is supported by the nosecone of the plane / upper arm (the configuration is almost like how the planes make up the arms normally).

It's a good thing I have some of those invisible elastic bands saved! :)

I also like the way Peaugh configured Superion's arms. In the official set up, I find the shoulders are a bit too tall.

Unfortunately I don't have a pic of him before the customization. But my point is this: even without the paint job and the added ball joints in the fingers he is a good figure. You just have to ignore the official instructions and put him together like I have. To get decent hands with four fingers and four joints simply leave out the flat plastic connector piece. He can still hold stuff, like G1 Superion's gun.

Like a lot of folks, I could not justify a $45 add on set for a $30 combiner.

I used the transform as they have it for the appendage set, swapped in a couple of the jets from the Energon version to get the right colors on the limbs and just popped on G1 Bruticus hands. Oh yea, and I cannibalized the 2 A10's from the new set into 1 gray plane instead of a pink one and a brown one (what the hell were they thinking there?)

He suffers a bit from skinny forearm syndrome, but by putting the energon "fingers" into the tailfins, you bulk out the arms a bit and have a couple cool weapons on each arm.
