Actually my dislike for him started out because Va'als infatuation for him, and I like to stir Va'al, in other words, it started out as a joke and I didn't really give a **** about Alpha Bravo.

But over time, as more and more people became infatuated with a character that had basically no characterisation, and how he was being turned into a quasi Mary Sue. So really, my problem isn't so much with Alpha Bravo (and I don't give a flying **** what people say, putting a helicopter into a team of jets is STUPID) but rather with his fans who worship him like he's the be all and end all.

See, that I can understand. He stands out, he has no personality, and the ironic cult around him can turn as many people off as it gets more people in on the joke. For my part, since i don't really know what any of the Aerialbots' personalities are like, he doesn't bother me as much. He forms Superion's arm and that's about the end of it. I don't really know more or less about him than any of the others. But I understand it can be different if you've been around these characters for 30some years. I sympathize.

He is a great CW Deluxe, I will say that much. Well, cracking HFG peg aside.

Mine will be getting some Shapeways upgrades and will be turned into a female submarine Technobot named Sonar, though.

This is the same franchise where a Rhino apparently moves as fast as a shiny flying gorilla on a hoverboard.

What's mary-sueish about Alpha Bravo...? He's not exactly Star Saber; the one piece of fiction he was in where the dude took on a major role portrayed him as a fish out of water, had one of the greatest portrayals of the psychological effects in a combiner, and had him come to a tragic end. I used to kind of like him because he looked cool and you could headcanon him as someone in a ragtag group, but when he actually got a character it made me care for him a lot.

I'll join the minority and say that yes, Alpha Bravo, Offroad and Rook irritated me. Not because they exist, but because Hasbro (again) decided to go the route of a true G1 remake and then swerved away at the last second. It's similar to when they remake a G1 character like Powerglide and then color him silver. It's frustrating when they create a toy that draws so heavily on nostalgia and then throw in an imperfection for seemingly no reason. Why even go this route to begin with if you're not going to commit?

The good news is that Takara and eventually Hasbro usually remedy this issue by releasing missing characters or figures in classic color schemes. In the end, I think they manage to please most everybody.

With Titans Return and Power of the Primes, Hasbro seems to have embraced making full-on G1 updates, so that makes me really happy, at least.

And I'm glad I never purchased Alpha Bravo, Offroad or Rook to have an "almost there" combiner.

Although I have thought about getting 4 Offroads as limbs for Cyclonus. Offroad is the least repulsive of the unnecessary limbs. He would make a decent troop builder.

Rook was awesome as well, a really fun toy, never underestimate the power of hulk hands! Really though it was good that hasbro covered their bases in a sense, it allowed those who cared about accuracy (to a certain point of course) to get the combiner they want while everyone else got some excellent toys that were great to transform and combine. So hate Ab or love Ab, who cares? Combiner Wars was awesome :-)

The jets will get to the battlefield first and then have to wait for the helicopter to turn up before they can combine ...

Most jets have a minimum top speed of at least 400 mph.

Helicopters, even the fastest of them (as far as I know, I could be wrong) have a maximum top speed of 250 mph.

In layman's terms: jet fast. Whirlybird slow.
