It should be Aki Kisaragi shouldn't it?

On a similar note, I watch parts of Advent Children Complete. I didn't watch all of it, seeing as how I don't speak Japanese and it didn't have subs. But 30 minutes of extra footage, man! Altered fight scenes! More fun with Reno and Rude! Hell, it even shows how Kadaj infiltrated Healin.
Most of all, the dub is set to be released this June. Definitely going to have to pick that up.

Yes.
I thought if anyone would get the last one it would be you. I can't imagine anyone else here would be familiar with the characters of that particular game.

Come on now, who do you think you're talking to?

I know, I know. You already get it. But you said "otaku" as in anime fan, but then Final Fantasy VII isn't anime. And I'm straining myself to avoid thinking of the massive numbers of otakus who are FF7 fans.

Tifa, Yuina, and the other just happen to be particularly special to me.
*Edit: Four actually, I always forget about Galaxy Angel starting as a game.

ahem, dispite while i never use the word myself due to the practical usage in japan
Some of Japan's otaku use the term to describe themselves and their friends semi-humorously, accepting their position as fans, and some even use the term proudly, attempting to reclaim it from its negative connotations. In general colloquial usage however, most Japanese would consider it undesirable to be described in a serious fashion as "otaku"; many even consider it to be a genuine insult.
I have no problem with lumping FF7 and other games into the greater anime/manga grouping (even without counting FF7:AC) I just request one thing from FF fans. Please for the love of whatever deity you pray to, stop making AMV's from the exact same footage we have seen in hundreds of videos before you.
It is amazingly hard to stay subjective when judging AMV contests when atleast 85% of your video has already been seen multiple time.
PS:
If you feel that your FF AMV is going to be different, make sure you don't use Evanescence or any of the main Emo bands, because I assure you, it's already been done.

Not necessarily. You can be a huge Gamer and not be an otaku.

Not bad, Interesting choice for music, might be the first WCW theme i've heard in an AMV. You avoided most of the standard scene rips from AC (likely due to the focus of the piece).
I usually downgrade vids that have extra text is popped in but... yhea... those needed to be said.
Cheer up indeed.

I tried to make some that would be a little competitive for this year's con. Sadly none of the three videos I created qualified... I guess I need to try harder.

Ah suncoast, I liked going to the one at Northgate and the one hidden downtown in Westlake Center, but they are gone now....
Contests are tricky things because you just don't know how they will be judged.
In the case of Sakura-con, once Dinger has all the videos, he does a panel viewing for the Convention execs who determine which goes to the final contest and which win the 2 judges ("technical")awards and then the public rules on the catagory videos and best in show. There for depending on the make up of the convention board and how they vote a 'lesser' video could qualify or a better one might not simply due to musical or source choices.
For AE, Animethon and a couple others (as our contests are almost all ran by the same person) the videos first get shown to both a panel of other creators and a panel on behalf of the convention to ensure partizenship. These panels are the ones that determine most of the awards, and voting at con is still done for best of show voting.
For AX, (as of 2000, when I was last there) everything was submitted up to the last minute, everything was 'judged' for what would be in the contest at what was almost a room party. The finallists were then compiled for the public contest and everything was awarded by public opinion.
So you could apply for a number of contests, qualify and do well in half of them and possibly not even qualify in others. To sum up, it's a real mess.
Remember, less than a week to submit pieces for this year's contest at AE

I'm not going to kid myself into thinking I deserved to automatically qualify or anything, I know people do a lot of amazing things with these AMVs that I can't match. All I was really hoping for was to be able to watch one of them on one of the big screens.

Well for what it is worth the room was about 15-30% full the times I went by and when I went in, so a couple hundred people were able to see them.

Hey Kids.
Your ol' pal Editor here with a reminder. Always remember to check your Convention schedules so you can maximize your convention funtime.
And for the sake of being misunderstood. Tekka, that's a public service address, not a jab at you. It's too bad you weren't aware.

That said seing I was trapped in the Dealers hall almost all of Friday and Saturday, there was a lot I missed, but I did go to the AMV contest on Friday night (got to love that front row seating), and Saturday was pretty good with the "The anime that scarred me for life" panel.
Sunday, I unoffically logged off at noon but stayed in the room (w/ radio) while me and my girl did the bulk of our personal shopping until 1:30ish, (except for 10 minutes when I responded to a dealer with a shoplifter). After that and lunch we came back and mostly chilled in the AMV room, until it was time to get our stuff and head for the grayhound station and the girugabus back to Canada.

saddly I don't think this is the worse they have done, i still have bad memories of seeing the first "Con commercial" from a few years ago at a meeting and holding back my opinion when others thought it was great, and i thought it was just bad.
