Anybody else found BB's voice...wierd?

Postby SnipeShade » Wed Oct 17, 2007 11:14 pm

In the begginings prequel (i didn't get to watch, just heard it), BB is narrating. And his voice.....just seemed slightly annoying. 0_o I mean, Starscream is suppose to have the annoying voice, but I couldn't get used to BB's voice. XD I almost prefer him mute. What you think?

Or maybe im just not falling for the brit tone of his voice. :-?

i think it might be husky-sounding because he just recovered his voice. i hope it will be different in TF2

But thats the VA's VOICE! It wasn't husky or anything. It was regular BB (in the prequel narrating).

If you listen to the extras where they show how the robots IRL were just Cardboard heads on a pole, it's the VA of BB speaking in for the robots. And it's the exact same way he speaks for BB.

IF you listen to it a few more times you get used to it... just like most of us had to get used to Jazz's!

true.... well I know that the VAs werent the same. Nor were the sounds of their voices. Just like Ratchet or Ironhide didn't sound like their previous selves. (not that we should compare...cuz TF Cybertron? omfg, no. lol)

But out of all the VAs, I think BB's sound too out of place. x3

Probably sounds odd to ya cause they addeda robotic tone to the voice, like they did in Season 2+ of Red vs Blue, a more radio styled voice thinger..Ya that.

No, i really don't mind the robotic tone. haha, im just trying not to sound mean. His voice is just too british wierd to be BB.

Even as he was just acting out the voices of the robots on set (without robotic modifying) he still sounded too britishly....annoying. :?

And I have nothing against the british accent! Infact, I find foreign accents very interesting! XD I just don't like his.

But if you guys like him, then what the hey, it's prolly just me then. *laughs*

I have to agree... it sounds really odd to me compared to all the others. When I think of his lines in the movie... the "Permission to speak, sir?" part... I picture some kind of Niles Crane / David Hyde Pierce (from Frasier) guy as the homless boy saying "please sir, can I have some more?"... it's kinda pathetic.
Everyone else at least has a voice that makes them sound tough or, in Ratchet's case, intelligent... BB just sounds like some kind of pompous little pansy.*
Then again, it doesn't help that he said like 10 words total in the whole movie.

* - Not saying that the British are pansies or pompous... just giving my opinion on BBs voice. :)

I remember a post like this was made when the movie first came out. Someone said they believed Bumblebee asked to speak since he was only a low ranked soldier and since the other 3 (Jazz Ratchet and Ironhide) were higher ranked they didn't need permission or he was being polite and holds honor and respect highly to Optimus.

It sounded a bit higher pitched in that prequel reading. I liked it better in the film though.

I have no problem with their being "foreign" characters or characters with accents. There is no reason why they all have to sound like grumbling American cowboys or bikers.

Just think though, Bumblebee could have been voiced by Michael J. Fox. Michael Bay makes reference to this on the DVD commentary track.

Maybe 'cause the BB character in the film is supposed to be all stealthy and spy-like they decided to try a James Bond type voice to show off his sophistimication.
:P

BB-"I'll have a 10W30 shaken...not stirred"

Works for me!

Ya know, I just noticed (and compared) the voice in the movie and the voice in the prequel animation was a bit different. Ofcourse the BB voice in the movie was suppose to be "glitchy" and the prequel voice = fresh, but yea. Just pointing that out.

I think i'd prefer just a younger sounding voice. Maybe the voice actor Ryan (VA for Movie BB) could prolly play a more younger voice? Just a bit younger. :???:

And I was reading the discussion on the Don Murphy boards, and I agree with what most of them say. It doesn't fit his movie personality. >.O

Really, really don't like the new voice. Why would he sound English? Was the G1 cartoon voice actor too busy? Or, since he was speaking through the radio early on, why not use Casey Casams (sp?) voice? He did lots of voicing for the old show. He would sound pretty good as Bumblebee!

I was thinking about this when I first saw the TF1 in the movies... I think eventually we will get used to the voice. But BB does sound like a butler. Which is way off from his attitude. BB needed to sound like a surfer or a skateboarder or BMX biker....That would fit how he acts. If you watch the Autobots Arrival scene it reminds me of the Ninja Turtles.

Raphael = Jazz
Michaelangelo = Bumblebee
Donatello = Ratchet

Ratchet sounds/acts like a professor or teacher.
Jazz sounds/acts like the rude rebel thug
Bumblebee acts like a rocker/party dude
There is no excuse for TF3 to not be done properly!!!

have you guys seen the commercial on tv for Ultimate BB? The voice thats on the Ultimate BB sounds like it fits more than the Prequel movie voice.

i still don't get the "permission to speak, suh?" line, it reminded me of alfred pennyworth. but the more i listen to it the less i dislike the voice. afterall, he's been alive for millions of years, so why would he sound like a teenager? and if jazz gets a "black guy" voice, then why wouldn't BB get a british one? maybe he learned english from BBC radio. but michael j fox is a good candidate for VA :P

XD haha. Well see, heres the thing. We all know Jazz to have that kind of tone.

But the voice of the movie guy didn't FIT. (its almost like giving Jazz a rich white boy voice, it DUN WORK! Ofcourse it wasn't to that extreme, im just exaggerating.)

So...ITS NOT CUZ HES BRITISH, OK??? Ya got it?? XD I tried putting that point across before. I DON'T CARE IF HES BRITISH. It's the type of voice he has. As in timbre, tone, volume, etc- that kind of stuff. Not his accent!

And BB doesn't have to sound "young" but his tone, I think, should sound different. I vote for the VA who voiced the Ultimate Bumblebee toy.
