-It's a Bay film. (Automatic hatred.)
-There weren't many good films in 2014. (Those that were good, came and went in the theaters MONTHS before or after AoE did.)
-Have they seen the rest of 2014's movies? (Seriously. Earth To Echo I hear is just absolute crap and they advertised the crap out of it.)
Of the movies that were good:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Interstellar
Big Hero 6
Of the movies that were "bad":
Robocop (Though I enjoyed it. I even bought it on video.)
Transformers Age Of Extinction (I loved it. I don't care what the critics think, it's not going to change my mind.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Also enjoyable, not award winning, but fun.)
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 (I didn't see it, but a large number of people who did said it was a very slow and boring film that just abruptly ends. I'd be PO'd too.)
Of the movies that made money (which is really the most important factor, because studios and audiences don't give a crap what the critics really think as long as the dough rolls in.):
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Interstellar
Transformers Age Of Extinction
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1
Plus all the other films that just kinda wandered through the muck and mire to get to the box office, but none of them are really memorable, nor did they have a big box office. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst years for movies, I've ever seen.

Also, personal tastes are personal.
