American horror moves have turned away from anything resembling psychological horror and now just stuff in as much gore and violence as they possibly can, because the writers don't have any original ideas, and Hollywood believes that your average type of person who will watch horror movies(typically Teenagers) are retarded.
And well, out of all the teenagers I know, they'd be right.
So instead of getting a true horror movie. The type that Silent Hill tried to be. We instead get Kane jerking off in a closet, or bullshit uninspired and completely lacking remakes, and then even more retarded sequels of those remakes.
Edit: Also, every single horror movie has now decided to follow in the footsteps of saw, by using the unimaginative gritty filter on their film.
"Gee I think we're in a horror movie guys"
"Why do you say that?"
"Because this pristine polished glass crystal looks like it was smeared in dirt and feces, but it's not"
"Damn you hollywood!"
For once, I'd like to see a horror movie shot with no filter, use bright lighting to set the opposite mood. Then start having jump points.
That way I could make a shitload of money off gullible @#$%s and then inspire a whole generation of uninspired copycats.
Re-Edit: Hm, one would almost think I have a grudge against what the "horror" genre has become.

But then they decided that a Fall release was much too close to the Transformers movie he already released in July, so they held off until next year. I've heard the story.
I had an idea for a horror movie. I got the idea a week or so ago. It'd be about a guy who, at the beginning of the movie, begins to suffer from severe psychological trauma that causes him to randomly hallucinate and damage his perception of reality. He then begins seeing what I can only describe as some freaky ****.
Imagine, a man nervously opening a door, while you expect something to be freaky on the other side. Creepy music, all that. He opens the door...and it's just a normal living room.
Then he turns around and the hallway is made out of bones and blood or something.
It wouldn't be the kind of movie where a guy who gets his ribcage torn out through his ass is supposed to count as scary. It'd play around with the audience's expectations. You jump more when you don't see the scary thing coming.
And if someone wanted to make a crappy sequel out of it, I'd beat them over the head with a crowbar. Metaphorically.

Hide and Seek - Great mystery thriller with heavy psychological influences. If I say any more than that, I'd give away too much.
Skeleton Key - Also a great mystery movie with a bit of a ghost story thrown in. Like Hide and Seek it has some surprises, so you can't say much without giving a lot away.
I am Legend - Great Sci-Fi action movie with lots of creepy scenes and make-you-jump scenes worked in.
I'm also fond of Sleepy Hollow, but it borders on being a gore-fest. Same with Le Pact de Lupes.

Try and find Ringu (You've probably already seen it) then find Rasen otherwise known as Spiral, which was the real sequal.
The J version (original version) of Pulse is good too.

The Cave was another "horror" movie I liked, it very much reminded me of the "Alien" movies. In my opnion The Cave>The decent.
Of course you can never go wrong with a good old-fashioned zombie movie. Some of my personal favorites are Fido(it's a brilliant comedy with zombies!), Flight of the Living Dead(Zombies on a Plane), and The 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake(I love Zack Snyder).

coming soon "The Electric Information Show" a new podcast from the guy who brought you the Twincast.

We saw The Cave, it was pretty good. Darkness was not near as scary as I thought it was going to be.
Has anyone seen The Happening? I tried to rent it but it was all rented out. Is that one scary at all?

The Happening was just dumb. I wouldn't bother unless you're curious. It had potential, but it was messed up. I think that was Mark Wahlberg's worst acting. Just seemed to phone it in. And I actually paid to watch it.
I actually like the Saw movies. There's more background and character in the later ones. Better than Hostel anyway.
A great horror is Shaun of the Dead. Not all gore and guts. It's got its jumps, but I wouldn't call it a scary movie. It's like a comedy drama with a horror movie situation. Try that one.

Eagleeye was also very good it's more of a thriller but once you watch the film and think abut the situation it's actually quite scary.
Pan's Labyrinth is a bit scary but in my eyes it's utter garbage too much realistic violence.

Yes, I dislike War movies especially if they're made as realistic as in that movie. I mean if I had known about that part of the movie I wouldn't have watched it, damn critics not mentioning that part but letting it look like it was a pure fantasy movie.
