What is the one thing that annoys you with the hobby as a whole?

personal Context: Living in Ireland, getting from the likes of BBTS or HLJ is all importing from my part and the 23% import duty on the value of goods and shipping, is my bane. :-x

...nobody else using this forum at the moment?

Looking at some transformers archived footage, and wondering what, iyo, makes a good mail away,

what triggered this for me was the promo/box art for titans return pmop, and fort max

the unnamed decep speedsters would be a defn 'club' or mail-away?

This might be a bit of a personal question, but after what happened to me and my collection (see this thread for more)... What would you consider to have been the lowest point for you as a Transformers fan? By which I mean a point in your life of being a fan in which you felt a great loss or sadness or something of that nature in relation to your being a TF fan.

Some examples of this could be something like my own situation, or like when Ryan's collection was soiled by a flood in his basement some years ago, or the loss of a loved one who shared your interest in Transformers with you, or (to give a more generic example) when many children in the 80's who viewed Optimus Prime as a surrogate father figure were traumatized by his death in the 1986 movie.

And, more importantly, how did you go about the coping process of getting through and ultimately getting passed this lowest point of yours?

Optional: If you haven't any lowest points as a TF fan but do have any as a fan of some other series, please feel free to share those instead.

Both related questions for me.

I think my lowest point with modern collecting was sometime after I moved from Delaware to North Carolina.

Up to that point, I had been something of a complitionist. I wasn't completely crazy about it, but I bought most everything and tried to have all or as many versions of Armada trilogy stuff as I could.

I had left my job so that my wife could further her career and the position I had well expected to get in NC completely fell through. I was left with an expensive habit, a LOT of time to reflect on it, and mounting responsibilities and guilt where money was concerned.

To make it worse, I had just packed up all my figures for the move and was well aware of the nearly 30 18-gallon tote cases full of my toys.

This was also at a time where the brand was really starting to expand and 3P stuff was going nuts.

I knew it was time to start making some hard choices about what I loved, what I liked, and what I was buying out of habit.

I think it was the selling, with the intent purpose of recovering money, all while my friends were happily indulging in new products that was the low point for me. Coming to terms with the idea that I had been kind of selfish, taking an honest look at what I was buying and why, and the huge volume of work it took to sell things off; all of it was really hard.

All the while, I'm trying really hard not to spoil my friend's enjoyment of their hobby or talk to frankly about why I had to do these things.

It may have been a low point, but it certainly gave me a better perspective on it all.

I hope this question is clear, I will provide examples in case but here we go:

Between the two, which do you preffer getting: A character you dont have in your collection yet but who is a redeco/retool of another toy OR a character you already have in your collection but who is a new mold.

Examples:

Say you already have RID Quillfire and Gen Windblade, which exictes you more:

RID Scatterspike (a character you dont have who is a redeco)

Image

OR

RID Windblade (a character you already have in some version but who's a new mold)

Image

Even easier example, now that there are rumours of a new legends cosmos.

Say you have Gen Legends Cosmos already, which of the following is more exciting:

The repaint of Gen Cosmos into Scrounge
Or
The rumoured new Legends Cosmos (if it was a new mold)

I was a kid who build his "TF's" out of Lego before he got his first real one in 1985. I (re-)started my current collection in 1999 up to now as most of you did at a certain point. At the moment i'm at the point that I consider my G1 collection complete and have to wait for new official or 3rdParty releases to really ad something to my collection.

My question is; Which of these 3 era's do you like most?
The one when it was all new? The one that made you feel you missed a whole lot and got you exited again? Or the current one where there are more choices for the same goal than you'd ever imagined you would have to choose from?

Best regards,

Quint

(9-20-'16) P.s. I had to think about my own answer for a few days. My choice would be the one where I started again. Simply because then being an adult I could buy whatever satisfied reliving my past. The ones I liked as a kid, the ones I never got and the ones that I didn't even know about. I miss that nowadays by sometimes buying just to have and ad instead of really enjoying it.

As lines progress, would you rather continue to have the same characters released but with better molds and engineering, or would you rather see a whole selection of brand new characters, a la another RiD/Car Robots or Unicron Trilogy?

And as a sub-question, do you feel that there will ever be a "perfect" version of a character? Any examples of figures you think are close to it?

You may want to check out episode 155, as williamjames88 asked a very similar question above which is answered on that episode.

This part though is new, so we'll still get this on the list for 157 onwards! (156 is already recorded, just working on the nuts and bolts of it now)

About the 10th anniversary movie toy rereleases from Takara. I am very curious as to how you Scotty, who likes special decos, can resist that Megatron since they are finally releasing a deco which was once cancelled. Of the ones shown, which ones do the podcasters plan on getting?

I have another question: Is Hasbro saying that waves 1 and 2 are sold out from them a cause for concern at all if we havent found some in our local stores yet?

I am just looking for your general thoughts and interpretations of the news here since you guys are veterans in this hobby and might know more about what Hasbro means in the words they shared:

Taking this one part here because it might be old news by the time we record again.

Keeping it simple here, but in short:

1. No cause for concern.
2. Don't hunt brick and mortar stores for TR product for awhile if they're out.
3. Be prepared to be frustrated by Wave 1 and 2 sitting around when they make too many in a new factory run as a response. Not saying it will happen, but it could. See: 2007 Movie toys.

For a RID 2015 cartoon-related question, have any of you gotten to see the six-episode "season 2.5" mini-series that advertises the Mini-Con Weaponizers, the Power Surge toys, and the latest run of Clash of the Transformers TRU exclusives? The six episodes have already aired in Canada (with recordings available to watch online), and as of this typing, the second one of the six has aired on Cartoon Network in the U.S. If you have seen the six episodes, what did you think of them and the new characters they introduced?

Of note about these six episodes is that the new characters whose toys they advertise had already had their toys out on the market ahead of time, which is different from how seasons 1-2 did things by instead introducing characters well before their getting toy releases. So these six eps go the old-fashioned route of "toys first, then media appearances" for the new characters instead of the more recent trend of "media first, then toys" that we've seen occur in the likes of Animated, Prime, the movies, and of course seasons 1-2 of RID 2015. Any thoughts on this notion about these six episodes? ;)

All the talk about Revolutions and the potential multiple crossovers got me thinking...

Do you guys collect anything else, and if so, do you display them with your TFs or separate? If you display them with your TFs, is it just for space's sake or do you have a head canon to go with it?

As an example, I also collect Gundam model kits and a few other random mecha. In my mind, they're what humans built to combat a perceived Cybertronian threat, a la the EDC's Macross-type vehicles in the IDW-verse, so while they're on their own shelf I still consider them part of the entire collection. Also, I enjoy forcing Bandai and Hasbro/Takara to coexist. :michaelbay:

As a more relevant sub-question, if/when Hasbro comes out with Micronauts/M.A.S.K./ROM/etc. figures, would you add those to your collection? If not, what would it take to get you to buy into them?

What price do you guys look at when wondering if a toy is "worth the price". For Hasbro toys, it's easy, its the MSRP or whatever you bought it at retail for. But for westerners like us, Takara toys have 2 different "prices". There's the price it's sold at on Japanese websites and the price it's sold at on importer websites (like BBTS). So which of these do you consider when wondering if a Transformer toy matches up to its price.

Like MP Primal. He is $80-86 on Japanese sites but $120 on import sites.

Is he a $85 or $120 toy to you? And do your expectations on him change depending on which price you think of?

Which do you find more fun to Transform in General:

Titans Return Deluxes

or

Robots in Disguise Warrior toys (specifically the Decepticons)

?

Do you feel the RID Warriors are underrated comapred to the Titans Return deluxes?

First I have to say a huge thank you to everyone at Seibertron you guys are awesome, definitely the best Transformers site in my opinion. My question is more I guess personal to you guys doing the site. I want to hear about your guys collections personally how big are they what do you have displayed what all do you collect.. from the sounds of it Scotty P and Ryan must have crazy collections. Who's is the biggest / most displayed?... some of you guys make me feel like my collection of over 1900 ( virtually no color variants by the way) is small lol

I have 2 thoughts on this.

1) a longer "listeners questions" segment. Maybe if more questions were to get adressed, more would be submitted. Maybe even make the submit thread a sticky in all forums for better visibility. Transformers General discussion does not get a ton of traffic compared to others.

2) a "guest podcaster" of some sort. Not that here is anything wrong with our current hosts, but variety is the spice of life. A fresh voice and opinion every now and then would always be welcome to spike up interest.

I would like to add to this. What I find important is that the question is understood and espressed clearly to the panel. The last 2 questions I submitted that were discussed were not well understood by everyone. I feel the person guiding the podcast understood them but not the panel. I would encourage the podcasters to read the question in advance and ask the showrunner for clarity if they dont get it.

As for more interations, there are 2 things working against it:

1. A lot of time is based on a topic that only a subset of the TF community cares about: the comics.
2. only the latest issues are discussed

Now of course, that makes sense, but there are many fans who dont read the comics, or wait for a trade or simply dont listen to the podcast when it comes out. So technically, to be able to interact with the podcast members, one has to listen the week the podcast is out AND have bought the latest comics. that reduces the target audience to just a fraction of people.

A way to counter that is to shorten the comic segment and instead introduce topics that arent time sensitive. So maybe a throw back segment where you spotlight a toy or era.

What I would suggest is that every week, you take 15 mins to discuss your favourite TF toy in regards to:

an alt mode
a character
an era
a piece of fiction (show or movie)

So lets say when megatron was being such a badass at the end of last Light, you could have had a segment looking back on the toys you like best for Megs, the ones that look most bad ass. Or you could have asked the panel which megs toy they use to represent Megatron in their Lost Light crew.

Or when you have a trailer for the last knight, you could look back and ask which movie optimus toy you likd best, or whch movie BB toy you liked best (in theme with the new Bee just revealed). or in theme with the newly revealed Optimus toy that turns out to just be a redeco, you could ask when was the last time you were also dissapointed by a reveal.

these are all little tips and tricks to make the podcast episodes more timeless like that when people listen to it a week or more later, they are still compelled to share their point of view. it also helps for those who listen to the podcast but arent caught up on things. Odds are they at least have an opinion on the past and can interact based on that.

I hope that helped!

I'm still waiting for this discussion:

And by now, the fourth season has ended, making a whopping 104 episodes total.
