After a fleeting board interaction with ScottyP on grading AoE Leader Prime on a scale of 1 to 10, my question is this:
What figure, if any, do you think has earned a 10?

If you have any questions for Matthew Reinhart, the author/pop-up designer of Transformers: The Ultimate Pop Up Universe and the upcoming SDCC Dinobot set's Ark Playset, post 'em today and we'll try to squeeze them in to the next show.
We're also generally behind on questions but will catch up soon

Movie related question: You get to go out on a date with Megan Fox, Rosie H-W, or Nicola Peltz (whichever's your fave;) you go out to dinner with her and one thing led to another...if your preferred gal were to give you her peas, would you be happy, upset, or otherwise?

So, we try to answer this next episode, but I'm not sure we quite knew the spirit of the question. I'd say that if you're working on something, let folks know about it in the video game forum or in one of the creative forum sections

is there any mould that was considered rubbish, that you think could become a cool character with just some little repainting/tweaking?
( animated Jetstorm/jetfire, change the cartoony heads, and give a more univeral paint for the pair, so that the combined form wouldn't look like a court jester)

What is Ryan's take on 3rd party figures. He says it's something most people know but I am new here so if anyone can point me towards a thread shedding light on this question, please do.

IIRC, his public statements were that he wants to support officially licensed products above all, and that the coverage of 3rd party products simply became too vast and numerous over time to keep up with with everything, to the point that there was once more news about 3rd party products than there was about official products.william-james88 wrote:I have a question and I do not mind if anyone jumps in here to answer it:

Don't say "Softimus Prime" and try not to suggest a Rescuebot.

This might be going out on a limb, but bear with me.
Beast Wars Optimus Primal. He's big but mostly rounded, and pretty much all of the pokey pieces can be removed: bullets, swords, funky panels, and his violent skull mace.
If I were to suggest something less far out on this limb, I would probably go with Stealth Force,
But I think your absolute best bet, if you want to steer away from plush toys and Rescue Bots, then perhaps the Go-Bots circa 2007? They had proportions similar to the "Battle Stompers" or whatever, but with the added bonus of actually being able to transform.

G1 Optimus Prime. It's a classic, it's easy to TF...and it looks cool enough just sitting on the shelf for a year or so until he might be interested enough to at least start pushing it around. Unfortunately he'll probably have to go handless for the first few years...

It depends on how old you want him to be when you give it to him.Counterpunch wrote:What should my soon to be newborn son's first Transformer be?

If you want him to have his first figure while still in his infancy, something like a non-transformable toy or a 1 Step Changer might be safe enough.
Or if you want to wait until he's, say, three years old, something simple and fun like a Power Battler could work.

Depends on what your message to the child will be. These assume you wait until he's a toddler:
"You're not capable of Transformers" - Any "Titan" figure not named Metroplex
"I'm buying you what society tells me to" - Any Rescue Bot
"Here, go beat this up with your friends" - A One-Step or Smash/Flip change guy
"Use your imagination" - Multiple Hero Mashers
"I love you and want you to have an age appropriate and fun toy" - G1 Prime with any choking hazards taken out of sight until he won't try to eat them.
"Life is confusing and hard, and your toddler ass needs to learn about emotional pain now so that you'll be ready to face the world when you turn 5 and you're on your own" - RotF Mixmaster

So it's apparently always a wang measuring contest...so who's got the biggest one of you? And is it true it grows the more you play with it?
PS, we're talking collections here, pervs...

The sad part is that it's not even a great looking robot once it took so long to transform (unlike MP 05 and ROTF Optimus)
And I have a question for the podcast group:
Which transformer toy do you love which doesnt seem to have as much love from others? (pretty much, which transformer do you think is underrated)

I have a question about the way Ryan says the word "Transformers". Is it just I who is always taken back by how different he pronounces it or is he saying it corectly and we are all just wrong?
PS: I think Ryan is awesome and I am not trolling, I am just really curious ever since I started listening to the podcast that I am not saying Transformers correctly.

Thanks for the compliment, william-james88! While I appreciate ScottyP's defense of my "Chicago" and Michigan/Midwest accent (I lived in Michigan for the first 25 years of my life and have lived in Chicago for the past 12), I think william-james88 might have a point that I might very well say "transformers" differently. What's really odd is that no one has ever commented on my pronunciation in 30 years.
Next time we're on the podcast, I think I should read off a list of words that contain the "trans" prefix. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when I say "Transformers" casually, I pronounce it as "trance formers". However, when I say other words like "transvestite", "trans am", or "transfusion" I say it with a "z" sound at the end like "tranz". My Dad used to work at a Pontiac dealership in Pontiac, MI back in '84, so I wonder if I intentionally called them "trance formers" to differentiate the sound from "trans am", which is a word I would commonly hear. Also, the broken up words of "trans" and "formers" on most G1 toys and comics might also have influenced my pronounciation of the prefix "trans" as "trance" instead of "tranz".
I thought Dictionary.com and their little pronunciation audio clip might help me out but all I hear is "trance formers" when I hear the word pronounced. My wife says she hears the "z" sound.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/transformers?s=t
Or then again, maybe we're all saying it as "trance formers" and it just comes down to how I pronounce the "a" sound in words with my Chi-kah-go accent. ;D
