Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

I am a Virginia Tech student who was on campus today.
I have been an avid reader of the site for years, although I do not post much.
I got in at 8:00 AM and was doing Homework in one of the engineering buildings. There are about seven engineering buildings as Tech is a big place.
I received an email about a "shooting incident" in one of the dorms, although information was sketchy and we did not know if anyone had been killed or a police officer's gun had accidentally gone off or what.
Then we got word of a second shooting and were forced to stay indoors away from windows.
This is a very unusual incident for Blacksburg. It is a VERY quiet town. I have lived here my entire life and my family has been here for generations (no, we dont get out much). Before this on average we would have maybe 1 murder every 5 years. There are no "gangs" - there have been one or two instances of graffiti but I would not say it is gang related. The campus is 25,000 students, but during the summer it is a town of only 5000. This is unprecedented and all of us in Blacksburg are shocked and saddened by these events.
Not to be rude but are you really a VT student?

I was in Whittemore Hall (two buildings over) at the time and we were stuck there for several hours. Norris, where the incident happened, is the location of the ESM department and the Dean's Office. Just last Friday we had a bomb threat to one of the other engineering department buildings. Before this morning, people believed it to just be a student who did not want to take a test. We are all unsure whether or not the two events are connected now. I will admit that Tech has had massive growth during the last ten years. However, the community is still small without the students and this is VERY UNUSUAL for blacksburg. In reply to the comment about wealthy students, we do have some but I personally am lower middle class and had to go somewhere close by due to expenses.
