My theory is that the factory/factories have been sitting on these for a couple of years since they were made and canceled. I have a feeling that this is abandoned stock which the factory/factories are now selling via Chinese auction sites. Is that a possibility? The ones I'm selling appear to be intended for the Mexican market, not Target like I had originally thought.

Anyone else have theories?

Most likely what happened is that the seller that Hasbro had lined up to sell them (Target I believe) decided it was no longer going to carry the line fairly late in production, so Hasbro had no outlet to sell them. Enough quantity was made that it was deemed not profitable, or too cumbersome for HTS to sell them.

The case is different that they come in. You'll see a pic of the case in my upcoming galleries for these. The case was definitely destined to head to the Mexican market. Plus these all have dual instructions ... the traditional Hasbro ones and then Mexican version that's printed on the paper more like the BotCon instructions are.

I wonder, does Hasbro see even a dime when they are left holding the bag, as in this example? Or it's simply a total write-off?

This would be interesting to know. I have a feeling that there's a huge side of this that we don't know about and may never know about. I wish we knew more about the factory side of things. I'm surprised that in this day of age with the Internet and ease of access to information that we don't know about the factory process.

I PM'd some Ebay seller from Chicago (or was it just Illinois?) selling some of the unreleased scouts and that's what he replied me. I thought he was scalping the toys obtained from the group purchase.

I wouldn't say that about one of my competitors. Perhaps it was diablien (http://www.collecticon.org/)? I think he had a falling out with TFW at the end of last year so maybe there're still some ongoing issues with that.

I was able to get 2 of the 3 figures... Great addition to my collection!
But I was wondering; does anybody know how many of these figure were actually produced? The figures still pop-up on Ebay...
