Autobot Perception

I'm asking a question publicly which I've asked privately; why is it the General Discussion crowd thinks so lowly of Autobots, and, what can or should be done by Autobots to correct this?

It seems that whenever Autobots venture into smack-talk, discussions, or rivalries in the General Discussion forum they quite often go very poorly. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Because Bot players are simply too logical?

Whereas Cons/Preds love to use illogical excuses to "call them out"?

Why did you not want to be called out by Merc? To most his challenge seemed very logical - two Deadpool fans going head-to-head. Your team XP also would have most likely guaranteed the win.

That whole thread in specific is a sore subject to the community; I'm however also speaking more generically and over a much longer term (since 2005 when I first joined as a Bot player).
-- Why don't Bots participate more in GD - let alone here in Iacon?
-- Why don't most Bots want to engage in smack talk / challenges / etc?

As an aside, how many will participate in the scalp hunt later this month?

As one of the older players and lesser active posters I'll drop some insight into this. In general, as well as on the GD, our faction is nowhere near as organized and close-knit as the decepticon groups. When we smack talk, we do it alone for the most part. Whereas the cons will back each other up and drown out the lesser voices. It then becomes less enjoyable for a lot of people who were looking for a friendly 1 on 1, which turns into a 1 on 100.

Don't ask me why we've gotten like this. I must have joined the game after the AWC had had it's run and had started it's decline as it seems the years I played we never worked as a group save a couple of tournaments that we actually plastered the cons in. I wish good luck to whomever can form our faction into an organized, active group because at one time if we only showed a hint of that we were a superior group.

What would it take to draw someone like you out of inactivity to regularly participating in Iacon or in the General Discussion?

We were always the smaller and slower to level faction. We also were never organized that much and it showed during tournies. Then we also lost a lot of our big name players either due to retirement or other.

Right now I'm inactive as I'm working 9 hours a days, 7 days a week and have a family life to juggle. While I'm at work I don't usually have time to post and when I'm at home I'm either not on my pC or I'm not even home, or I'm asleep.

When the holiday craziness is over I'll have plenty of time.

I'm still an active player, not as much as I was because of the wipeout. Restarting from zero with the small amounts of time I'm able to play and post really was a let down and I still haven't gotten the enthusiasm back yet. I've always wanted to be more active but I do what I can when I can.

Over the past week and a half I have no memory of any "Autobots can't have fun / have no sense of humor / are not engaged / etc." nonsense. You sir - Neliz - and Nikolai - have been doing a fine job of participating in the GD. That's worthy of much notice.

I appreciate all that's posted about being inactive, unavailable, and having other priorities. That explanation I imagine has been very welcome to the other Bots here. As Omega Sentinel's recent "Facts" thread revealed clearly there are quite a few forum trolls waiting to contribute to certain areas but not all across all factions.

It should be encouraged that when involvement is possible though that something of the model of these recent Bot GD participants be taken into consideration; they've garnered cross-faction respect in a short period despite having the Bot label. I started this thread so that the faction could remove the anathema which is placed on it by the others through first discussing why it exists and then addressing it; it appears at least one model of resolution is already out there.

It might be a demographic issue as well. Most "old-time" Bot players are 30'ers with a demanding job and a family life.

My job, fortunately, allows me to sit behind my pc a lot during daytime.

I stopped posting in HMW:GD because i grew tired of the blatant bullying displayed by RDD members. I actually had the feeling of older kids trying to rid you of your candy. As a fresh L1, being called out by Cons, accepting the challenge and then getting beaten by over amped bots. This might be fun for the best part of 2 minutes but really guys, this is their entire life!

It's the reason we've seen another two top-20 Bots leave this week. Some people have lives and give that priority. The people calling you out are simply unemployed or don't have girlfriends/wifes/family demanding some social behavior. I'm really on the edge of acceptable "hmw" time already and that's still not enough to beat the loudmouth.

Basically most people can't be arsed to "get organized" and "play as a team" .. they have a live. If I want to be organized and involved i'll join the 75th Rangers in "America's Army". HMW is a text based browser game which requires some explanation but you have to find someone willing to help. I can completely understand the older players ignoring GD/iacon and then younglings try it for a few weeks before they become bored of the repetitive behavior of most active GD posters.

Excuse the double post. I am currently a full time student, have 2 bands, play guitar, sing, preach, and most of all laugh.
your right tho. it is very hard for some people to accomplish things being the case that they have families and i had no idea you guys were in your 30's im only 20 so im here for support and if you need me to annoy i would more than gladly do it. THOSE PUNKS REALLY DO GET ON MY NERVES.

What can I say? I quit HMW because I was tired of the constant ridicule that I would receive day in and day out. I'll admit right now I'm not always emotionally stable, so when I go onto a forum where I try to relax and play a fun game, and instead get my head bashed into a wall every minute or so, well hell, that's going to be frustrating and discouraging.

There just happens to be so many people in GD that are so full of themselves. From my standpoint, we all human, but do we need to take up the traits of the machines that we are controlling? I'm not into role-playing, but I'm not someone who's wanting to deal with the decepticon mockery and abuse.

Battling in-game is fine by me, but in the forums? Anything intelligent I have to say gets burned and ripped into shreds. I'd love to be active and start HMW again but this whole entire fiasco has left me in tatters.

And I'll say right now that the Merc vs. Deadpool. thing wasn't a challenge, it was a call-out, similar to how a bully would try to callout his victim. Sure you could said Deadpool was a bit lacking in his response, but none of you know what he has been going through his life so there shouldn't be any assumptions made at all.

The only reason I'm responding to this is because I won't get blasted from other players who seem to want my head on a stick after they've put me through a noose. The only Decepticon/Pred/Maxi players I can somehow tolerate are the woman because they happen to pack the estrogen, and even still they are an odd sort.

I'll also add that this viewpoint is coming from a 17 yr old who has yet to reach the adult age. And I'm someone who they target and pick on? Frick, i'll add in the fact that Deadpool. happens to be younger than me. Wow, those RDD members need to learn to pack their spare balls in their mouths sometimes.

I hope everyone enjoys their time on HMW and make sure not to get beat down by some lowly maggots who take pleasure on picking on people simply because they are on a different side. Even if we're better than them, they find the lowliest ways to bring us down.

Keep your heads up guys,

-Blurrz

I second that request for explanation. I confuzzled.

Is there any means of reclaiming the GD - in part - so that the concerns expressed here can be mitigated? Should moderators be involved? The age-bullying issue seems an especially valid concern. I checked both users listed (Blurzz and Deadpool.) and they both have their birth-date entered so their age isn't hidden. Frankly that gap should be considered.**

Secondly, what about a revitalization of Iacon? The inanity of the Bar & Grill and the camaraderie of Rallying threads made this place interesting. If the consensus of how Autobots enjoy playing the game is encapsulated here then why cannot Iacon be that place?++

**Now, as for harassment-in-good-nature, I volunteer with church teenagers and that teasing is some of the best bonding we have. But then again, our youth group encourages games like Murder Ball (where blood scores extra points) and encourages my "Sledgehammer Rule" (I'll hit you in the nuts with a sledgehammer if I think it will help protect your heart)... so I have a different background than most.##

++Naturally respecting the fact that many former Bots simply are non-active posters for person reasons.

##Yes the sledgehammer is only figurative...so far.

I agree.

Sorry to hear you have left the game Blurrz, you were a good player.

As far as the inactivity of the 'Bots, I can't speak for others, but I don't really RP my 'Bots. I tend to post as I tend to act/speak in RL. I tend to be reserved around others, that is just how I am and it's why I look at threads, but don't typically participate.

I would really like to see someone who had experience with the game or had less exp., but understood the game (tactics, teamwork, etc.) take command of the Autobot faction and start coordinating the people who are online in the game at the time into working together. I know there are 2 different sites for the two 'Bot subfactions, but it's not the same thing and splits the faction up.

One of the 'Cons mentioned using messengers in their post in another thread and that would probably be our best bet at this point unless someone else has another idea or two.
