Back to the topic at hand.

Did anyone ask why a Supreme Transforming Devastator, or why combining individual deluxe and voyagers weren't done???

Cost. Hasbro's response was something like "It would cost too much to have individual robot modes that were good and that could combine into Devastator"

Paraphrased it's like "Yeah, we want you to buy it twice"

I'm fed up with all this 'They want you to buy it twice' stuff.

How many Bumblebees were there in the first movie line? How many times has the original G1 Prime mould been re-issued? How many repaints are on the list at the top of this thread?

All Transformers fans buy stuff twice. Different size classes, different colours, whatever.

If Hasbro really wanted to bleed the fans dry, then they'd release all sorts of Devastator stuff. Scout Constructicons, Leader Constructions, G2-homage Orange Constructions, and so on. If their SOLE motivation was to get the consumers to buy many alternate versions, there are many, many ways in which they could've done so (and at minimal cost to themselves).

I know this argument's been done to death many times before, but I still contend that there's no way we could have accurate-looking Constructions with all three modes.

Look how the spindly Demolishor needs to 'fill out' to become the torso; look how Mixmaster's barrel needs to split up in robot mode AND form a reasonable-looking head in combined mode.

Yes, they did it with the legends toys... but the smaller figures can get away with it, as they don't have to have the screen-accuracy we expect of the Deluxe or Voyager-classes.

Hey, here's an idea? Why don't we just take Hasbro at face-value, accept what they have to say and stop 'paraphrasing' or 'reading between the lines'.

No-one's forcing anyone into buying toys they don't want. If you hate the Devastator figure, just pass on it.

Alternatively, you could just sit tight and wait for the FansProject add-on.

Seeing as I'm passing on the movie line as a whole- this is all disappointing news.

I would like to know if the ROTF Bludgeon looks all bent and ugly like the rest of the movie-verse bots, or if he actually is more like a Classics/Universe release just stuck in the movie line.

It's too bad that Hasbro has made such a lame move- going after FP and such. I really like my city commander, and was hoping to see more cool things of the like. Goodness know we aren't getting them from Hasbro anytime soon.

"Oh, look, a red Powerglide... but I thought red was all bad and stuff cause the youngins wouldn't buy it or somethin."

Meh.

At this point and time, I just want Masterpiece Grimlock at a reasonable price.

Universe just fell apart towards the end there with some truly awful BW homages, and the whole "could be a broken movie-bot" Ironhide and Ratchet. And let's not get started on poor Galvatron.

With the end of Animated (a little sad, was starting to get good)- and hopefully only one more movie coming up (please end it there) perhaps we'll see a range wide reboot with some appealing characters and decent stories- and let's not forget, toys worth buying the first time.
I'm not angry... I just hate most things.

Sorry to carry on the discussion about Fansproject, but I'd just like to make a suggestion - perhaps Hasbro could adopt a Takara stance on 3rd party manufacturers where they grant a license for one day (like Wonderfest).

Of course that would just serve to make Botcon even more expensive for people who can't get to the US....

I don't remember the exact words but what Hasbro said was basically, it's no problem when done as a hobby "for personal use". Various things like the custom plushies are wonderful at keeping the franchise alive by showing people loves Transformers very much. What Hasbro is upset about is that some of these third party items started being more commercial and did not ask Hasbro for permission.

I KNEW IT!! I told folks that we in the states were going to get screwed on the Legends Devastator and I was right!! Exclusive my ass, they're probably going to send so few pieces over here to the states that it wont satisfy the smallest 'Con in the smallest podunk town.

Everything I've been saying about Hasbro (which a lot of you have gotten down on me about) is going to come to pass. For everyone that bought into the optimistic crap they tried to spoon out during the panel discussion, you are making a mistake if you have believed even a third of it. They WILL yank the rug out from under us in a heartbeat.

As much as I started warming up to some of the new RotF figures after seeing them this weekend, they can just sit on the store shelf now for all I care.
For those of you new fans getting into this hobby, save your money and get out now!

Classics/Universe will continue in 2010; that's great news!

Voyager Bludgeon sounds like a must-have.

I was hoping to hear confirmation on who the 4th ROTF Leader Class figure will be—guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

Funny thing here, alot of people love to complain about these repaints but when they see'em in the toy store they'd be happy to pick them up in a heartbeat. You also forgot to mention how Mixmaster's long, gangly arms stowed away in his cement barrel are supposed to 'vanish' to simulate a hollow Vortex vacuum thingy as well as how electronics can be put in his barrel plates when they're also supposed to be thin shells worn on Mix's arms - my conclusion: Mixmaster is too impossible to be made into a combiner part.

I'm glad Hasbro made this move instead of forcing them to have robot and combined modes - take the classics/universe combiners, they may be touted as extremely good but the way I see it they can be frustratingly flimsy and fall apart very easily (my classics Devastator's bulldozer hands fall off at a glance for instance). I'm perfectly happy to spend more on 2 seperate sets of the same subgroup - the members and the combined form who lack the combiner gimmick, and in turn, lack the numerous stability/aesthetical compromises needed to make it work.

Anyways, my thoughts on Devastator: He actually looks better, prettier and more detailed than his stock photography would permit, and it looks as if there are detailed transformations for each of his limbs, more involved than a Voltron-esque "folding some limbs and panels away to create limb-bricks and slap everything together". If he can go on all fours in a reasonable posture he'll be kicked up a notch from my already "must have!!!" personal rating!

Yeah, the lack of one cool (in my own opinion) figure is going to chap my ass THAT badly! Look, I do understand that we are not the target demo for these figures. I do understand that they are not going to possibly make EVERYBODY happy. What I have mentioned in previous posts, which I understand that not everybody sees, is some of the reasoning why I've had to post the way I do lately. Think about it from a group mentality aspect or like how Tommy Lee Jones explained it in MIB. A person is smart whereas "people" are dumb, shortsighted and panicky. The only posts that stick in your minds are the obnoxiuos a**holes. They really well thought out ones, in general, tend to fall by the wayside because they are dry. I've tried respond to folks "en masse" with logic and it falls on deaf ears. That much has been obvious by the fact that the same folks are spewing the same shortsighted stuff. It would be my hope that by rattling cages a bit while still interjecting points to ponder on, that folks might actually at least try looking at something from a different perspective. I don't expect to sway folks to my point of view, that would be arrogant. I just want people to live up to the potential I know is inside everyone to view the world from more angles. If this means I have to start at a different level to get folks' attention, so be it. I think people are worth. It's probably selfish of me but it benefits us all in the long run.

As far as why Hasbro' has irritated me of late, that's a matter for me to reconcile and is going to fall into everyone else's category of personal opinion which is going to open a floodgate of attack against me. I just want those who blindly adore Hasbro to at least look at some of their practices (constant repaints, quality control, design choices etc.) and not accept blindly but to actually question the why's and wherefores and not take everything at face value. We are not sheep and yet we allow major corporations, regardless of what they produce, to turn us into sheep. Hasbro isn't our shepard, they just drive the feed truck and I think more folks need to realize and behave as such.

I won't appologize for attempting to manipulate views or thoughts. The educated and openminded will handle it in stride but the stubborn, headstrong ones will fight tooth and nail and will make themselves obvious. It is those folks who have my pity for they are missing out on so much of the world around them. I've stirred up anger, curiosity, resentment and, in a few instances, support and understanding. That's the first step in opening up a much larger view. I just hope others can understand why I do what I do. You all are worth it and all of us are capable of "seeing" so much more.

That would be Swerve.

Anyway, I'm glad universe will be returning. I for one liked the Beastwars Homages (would love to see a Rattrap and Rhinox homage, and maybe even a decent Terrorsaur). and at the very least we got a kick ass Cyclonus from the line. so who knows what other great figures will get. And even if some are not up to par like Ironhide or Galvatron. There's still enough good things in the line to enjoy. so I'm happy we'll get to see some more stuff.

I'm totally psyched about "Human Alliance" Barricade. He and Frenzy were my favorite characters from the movie, and while the deluxe toy was OK, I'm really excited to see what this mold will look like. Frenzy will probably be much better, and Barricade might have more accurate hands. This could be really cool.

The initial news about the Reissues (when their identities were still unknown) was from a Canadian store listing, where it was mentioned they'd have a $50 price point. That sounds right as they're a bit bigger than the average Reissue, and things cost more here than in the US due to exchange. Soundwave sold for $40 in Canada, if I recall correctly. In the US I would think the new ones will probably be about $10 cheaper.

I'm excited about more Universe and the last few Animated figs too. Arcee and Rodimus are perfect!

So I guess that's it for Botcon 2009? There was a lot of news but I figured Hasbro would unveil a lot more stuff, the only significant things we hadn't really seen were the new Animated molds and Universe repaints. I guess we have to wait until SDCC for them to bring out the big guns.

Can't wait for those MPs to get a US release, it'll still be far cheaper than buying the Japanese ones. I hope Grimlock turns out as well as the Takara one. He needs to retain all his chrome and proper paint apps.

Hardhead and Skyjack (although I thought the tag said Skyfall) are definites. If Bludgeon and Lockdown are as cool as everyone says, then they will be the first figures I have ever bought from the TF movie verse...

Has anyone heard about the third female Autobot that has appeared with Chromia and Arcee in the comics and possibly the movie? I keep holding out hope that the three toys will indeed combine into a larger robot.
